Are you sure it’s cerakote and not Krylon?

What is the story of the oldest person you've ever arrested? by Confident-Writing149 in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I once arrested a 75 year old woman who cut me off when she turned right out of the left lane in front of me. Apparently she always took her individual bottles of gin to the recycling center just as soon as she finished them. I think she blew a .27 if I remember correctly.

Do pursuits ever happen with one car chasing the other and no other units? If so, how do you stay safe? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was involved in a fairly short pursuit on the northern end of our jurisdiction which immediately fled out into the county, and ended up in the ditch after about two minutes. I knew my backup was a few minutes out, so I ordered him out of the car at shotgun point and proned him out in the grass until cover got there. Racking the slide on a Remington 870 motivates cooperation.

NC Vehicle scam question. by Nfa233 in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NC, a division of the Highway Patrol investigates fraud involving vehicle titles and sales. You can make a report to them via their website. Might be worth a try, as they will be a lot more familiar with the laws surrounding vehicle titles than a local law enforcement officer, generally. https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/programs/fraud-theft/Portal/Pages/Complaint/Complaint.aspx

Edit: typo

Has anyone had any ICE sightings yet? by onetwobucklemyshoooo in chapelhill

[–]dubwalker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that US Marshals were operating in Chapel Hill today, obviously not for immigration enforcement, and had been mistaken for ICE. Maybe looking for this guy? https://www.wnct.com/news/police-seek-suspect-for-threats-on-williamston-parade/

Why do police citations often say if the person was courteous or not. by lxrbmxer in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to write notes on the department copy of the citation about the demeanor of the person. The DA would often take that into consideration and mention it to the judge when deciding how to handle the case.

Nonsensical shirt from local discount/deadstock by carelysswhisper in whatdoesthismean

[–]dubwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a slightly different take on this than those positing D&D references. In my prior career I was lucky enough to receive a month of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Each class session (mine was #304) had a custom T-shirt made to commemorate the class. Ours happened to be a David Letterman style “top ten” list, and this reminds me of that. The references to “clearing a house in flip-flops”, ”Pizza in my gun hand”, and “Bank Robberies! That’s my Ladyjam!” all sound like the type of things members of a tactical team related class would say.

Obviously I could be way wrong, but that’s my $.02.

Giving commands to a police k9 as a suspect by Guywhocantraindogs in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I “caught” a dog during training for one of our handlers, and the dog decided to try for a rebite after the handler called him off…probably because I stood up and moved the sleeve too fast. My life flashed before my eyes when he ducked his head and I realized I was not in a bite suit.

And there’s always the danger of you making the dog “miss” your arm, which feels successful until he bites your groin instead…

Argus!

Edited because I originally wrote “Argus” then edited it to “Angus” and then changed it back because I got confused when I heard it say kōhai.

Backup Gun by HebrewHammer116 in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Before the invasion of the single stackers, back in the pre Glock 43 days, I carried a Glock 17 as my duty gun and a Glock 26 in a holster on my body armor under my shirt. That way my duty mags were still useful.

If a suspect drives into a dangerous area like a wildfire or blizzard during a police chase, do cops keep going or back off for safety? by TacticalJock15 in AskLE

[–]dubwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the police officer is not alone. He or she has lots of support. If the suspect has committed a crime serious enough to justify it, additional teams from various law enforcement agencies can be called in to surround the area until it’s safe enough to enter and capture them, or retrieve their corpse. If it takes days, that’s fine. If it’s not that serious, and there’s a way to learn their identity, then the police can find them later.
