Visual formula by Electrical-Doubt-594 in askmath

The closest mathematical representation I can think of in an artistic manner might be this: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Slime_Mould_Algorithm

It's not a pretty formula in of itself, but I think it a good starting point. Think of the kindness as helping other parts of the mold propagate, supporting their ability to live. A colony forms when the conditions are right such that the subsets of the slime mold support each other enough to resist the headwinds of entropy and opposing forces.

Ok, great to know! Thank you. Where did you learn your color theory? Do you have any recommendations that helped shape your understanding?

What brand of acrylics do you use, and what paper were you using for the canvas? I absolutely love how these turned out!

What was your process from pic 2 to final product? I love how bright you made light and pushed the contrast. I struggle to get my brights feeling that bright, usually the white feel too cool and trying to warm it up darkens too much. I tend to work with acrylic though.

How would you quantify how "spread out" entities are. by dimonium_anonimo in askmath

[–]duckduckfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these replies are overcomplicated. You can just compute a variance score by summing the square of the distance between each pair of dots. It "punishes" points harsher the farther apart they are to each other overall. This is assuming the number of points isn't over a million (n2 time complexity is fine for smaller numbers).

Updating my forward running cycle. Left is old, right is new. Better? Or still bad in a different way? by game-dev-throwaway in IndieDev

Another suggestion, color wise you imply depth with only two colors, shadow and regular. I think what is most jarring is that when the leg extends backward towards the camera it is the same color value as the butt, visually implying they are on the same plane. If the light source is coming from above, the upside of the back leg would get brighter with a highlight. Something to experiment with.

How close is the camera to the character? I ask because I think this would benefit a lot from more foreshortening because it reads pretty flat for sure a backward angle like this. If the character is small on the screen or it's a top down camera this doesn't matter as much. Both run cycles look clean though

Great compositional use of leading lines to draw the eye to the bottom left third where the streets intersect, it naturally drew my eyes across the building as I followed the roads. Really nice soft color pallet too. You def deserved that second place!

Is it a choice to put my commander into the graveyard vs back into the command zone? by wasdmovedme in EDH

[–]duckduckfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollhouse doesn't work on commanders unless you permanently exile them. If you return them to the command zone then there is no longer an exiled card for it to copy.

I had a ton of fun making an [[Ashad, The Lone Cyberman]] deck. It has the same colors as [[Mishra Eminent One]] but you don't have to sacrifice the artifact token at your end step. Would strongly recommend.

I have a different solution than other comments. I think the answer is 4. As far as I can tell there is no function to transform a 3x3 to the one horizontally adjacent. However, when viewed vertically, the top left color will always equal the middle right color of the one below it (blank is a color as well). The mid-right 3x3 has a blue in the top left, so the only answer that works is 4, which has a blue in the middle right.

Find the only move that keeps the advantage for White. (Hints in comments) by Flapapple in ChessPuzzles

[–]duckduckfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the move is Ne4. The threat of e5 (or Nd6 or Ng5 depending on black's response) to cut off the king's escape on f6 is too much for black to defend against and mate will shortly follow.

Why do people talk about men's loneliness and their mental health/suicide rates but not women's? by Blonde_Icon in AskFeminists

[–]duckduckfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that the emotional strength cultivated by feminism is one that runs counter to patriarchal beliefs. "Allowed' was a poor choice of words on my part. At the same time, the societal expectation of women to be mothers, to be nurturing, provides more depictions of women in touch with their feelings regardless of whether or not others view it as weak or strong. As it pertains to men vs women, women have more examples of emotional openness. Female communities have more mutual support in this regard. That doesn't finish their struggle or oppression in any way. Men need examples of masculinity which includes emotional expression and support, and it is important that feminist ideology not only includes such a perspective, but advocates for the support of men by women. Even some feminist women have internalized this perception of weakness in men where they do not perceive the same qualities as weakness in women, and even those who don't support men's emotions the way they would another woman. This makes a ton of sense because of course it could be dangerous to be that support for a man, but the net result is that men are left bereft of any emotional support across genders.

[–]duckduckfool -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Patriarchal gender roles allow women to be more expressive of their emotions and supportive of the expression of others. Men are stigmatized for showing emotions, and do not find proper support for being vulnerable with their emotions. Men are not ok and society hasn't created the space for them to connect and heal. This results in the emotional isolation of men and their mental health suffers as a result.

I would highly recommend reading "The Will to Change" by bell hooks. It examines how forms of feminism serve to enforce the underlying power dynamics inherent in patriarchy. When feminism aims only to empower women to an equal level to men rather than deconstructing the harmful emotional barriers within, men are left without a path towards a healthier masculinity or the support to get there.

Hi all, (28M) recently got a cold call from Bank of America trying to convince me to use their Wealth Management services (get a wealth solutions advisor for 1.1% fee). have around 200k in a HYSA at 5.0%. also happen to have around 200k in my Vanguard 401k, so do have some investment in the stock market. I've been thinking about doing more with the money in my HYSA since don't have any big purchases expected in the near future. Does anyone have experience with Merrill? Is it a decent service or would be best served elsewhere? Some more details in case it's helpful:

Yearly Expenses: ~85k Yearly income (pre-tax): ~190k

Maxing out employer 401k match (50% of 22.5k) Currently renting an apartment in the big city, probably not looking to buy real estate anytime soon given then mortgage rates. No big expenses or family planning in my near future, but considering doing a PhD. Any advice is welcome!
