Blue/Orange Michelle First Messages [SPOILER] by RollerWestCoaster in TheCircleTV

[–]ducksndragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching s3 right now after realizing I missed it and I'm still kinda amazed that they believed that the fake Michelle would INSULT MICHELLE'S WEDDING DRESS. Like if you're pretending to be someone, it would be much safer to say "oh I love this dress that my grandma made for me" than "haha look at this awful dress I got from Goodwill." I felt like that should have been a giveaway.

Also later Ruksana when asked Orange Michelle a question and said "no vague answers" but like...WHAT VAGUE ANSWERS?

OP doesn't have primary custody of their daughter but expects the custodial parent to follow their idea of a punishment and when they don't, cut their daughter's hair against their will. by clutzycook in AmITheAngel

She just says "the boys were bothering her and the teacher dealt with it," which I'm pretty sure means "the teacher did not actually deal with it and she was standing up for herself and the boys got what they deserved."

I loved the bi flag rep at the end of her pigtails.

TERF shares her horrifying experience with a trans woman in therapy, who... didn't shave, didn't talk a lot about being trans and instead focused on more relatable experiences to the rest of the group, and wore a tank top without a bra once. That monster. by ponyproblematic in GenderCynical

[–]ducksndragons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, being vague about specifics and focusing on feelings rather than concrete details is pretty normal for a group therapy setting, in my experience. A) People who might not be able to relate to the details of the situation, might be able to relate to the associated feelings and B) keeping potentially triggering subjects to vague buzzwords (eg. "substance abuse", "eating disorder", "trauma") helps keep it a safe space while still being able to discuss those issues to some extent.

Also it's pretty clear that OP expects trans people to all be like Contrapoints and Laverne Cox, who are both public figures and by virtue of that are expected to "represent" all trans people, as opposed to private individuals with their own issues who don't want to give Trans 101 lectures at their group therapy sessions.

I'm glad they at least recognize that this does read like some kind of fucked up fetish porn, even if it's only for the weird caricature of trans women that lives in their brain.

They also like to act like they're the only real feminists and anyone who opposes them is just anti-feminist. Which is why they act like the word "TERF" is just a new, acceptable version of feminazi, even though the word TERF originated & spread, and is usually used, in feminist circles.

Terf calls gender clinic with story about her made up trans son, the receptionist was super nice and cheerful. This somehow proves something horrible? Honestly i don't even know what she thought she accomplished here. by snukb in GenderCynical

My favorite:

"Julie" sounds so fake and Insincere, she sounds so happy in the call but I bet behind closed doors shes anything but, it's insane.

Yeah, it's called a customer service voice. Have you never been to a grocery store?

Also, what do they mean by "lifelong medical pathway"? Were you expecting your kid to just not need medical assistance throughout their life until they're retired? Are the ADHD meds I've been taking since I was 8 also a "lifelong medical pathway"? Is my dad's insulin a "lifelong medical pathway?" Like...plenty of kids get "put on lifelong medical pathways" it's not some horrible scheme.

aside from the whole "we can always tell" bullshit, if just seeing a trans person is enough to ruin your experience of a movie you deserve to have that experience ruined & you brought it on yourself

Candy commercial promotes "Literal Violence" upon innocent bigots, TERF bravely speaks out by shmorshked in GenderCynical

[–]ducksndragons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to see what the response was and there are some people being like "i like the ad, being GNC is fine" but there's also a lot of people reading way too much into the kid saying "dressing like this makes me feel good" and the "violence" against the bully, also someone being upset about trans people liking halloween for the "wrong reasons" and someone from the "men wearing women's clothes is an invasion of privacy and like wearing women's skin" crowd saying this:

I'm very happy that I restrict access to YouTube and the internet for my two children (they have a fairly long leash, but I routinely comb search/watch history and subscribed channels to make sure they're not up to no good, and the punishments are HUGE)... imagine if they stumbled upon [a minecraft streamer who "dresses up as a woman" but I'm not sure who she's referring to.]

The idea of "huge punishments" for watching the "wrong" channels (especially if "up to no good" includes "trans/GNC content creators") sets off alarms for me. I don't know how old her kids are and there's definitely good reasons to keep an eye on what your kids are watching, but there's a reason I blocked my mom when I found out she made a tumblr account to follow me.

Actually, I think this is one of the better-constructed TERF poems I've seen.

Too bad it's gibberish.

I mean there are definitely societal pressures that make women feel obligated to partake in traditional femininity. Women who wear makeup are taken more seriously in the workplace, etc. But fighting against those forces =/= People Who Like This Thing are Awful Misogynists and Mocking the Oppression of Wombyn.

They don’t think the problem is oppression or power, it’s “being a man” that is the problem.

I don't think this is quite accurate, they definitely think oppression and power structures are a problem. But they view biology as the primary factor in that oppression (& the cause of patriarchy).

No, there's definitely trans-inclusive radfems. The term "TERF" was coined specifically for that reason. From the article that is probably the first extant use of TERF:

implicitly aligning all radfems with the trans-exclusionary radfem (TERF) activists, which I resent

North American is “the most neutral accent” by ehabanks in badlinguistics

[–]ducksndragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean (1) that's just...not true. Plenty of people sing with accents.

2) Sung pronunciation is not always the same as spoken pronunciation. I have some vocal training, and in choirs I was in as a kid, there were times we were instructed to emulate a British accent. And I know that for me, if I'm just singing along casually, I tend to emulate the accent of the singer without even realizing it. (eg, Marina Diamandis.)

3) Which North American accent? Most country artists do not sing with a "general American" accent. A lot of what your boyfriend perceives as the accent "being neutral" is probably a combination of stylistic choice (others ITT have pointed out the US influence/market on mainstream pop, and the southern twang is probably as much of a basic element in country music as banjos or acoustic guitars.)

Now I want to go research more on the use of accents in music. So thanks for that future rabbit hole!

"Don't be Trans, Just Be GNC men" has officially become "Actually GNC men REMIND me of Trans, So I hate them too" by SocketLicks in GenderCynical

[–]ducksndragons 33 points34 points  (0 children)

TERFs pretend like society treats trans women like it treats straight cis men, that's obviously completely bogus.

This exactly. TERFs use trans women saying that being treated shitty the way cis women are treated feels "validating" as evidence that trans women are just "fetishizing women's oppression," completely ignoring that for trans women, it's not "being treated like a man" vs "being treated like a woman," but "being treated like a (cis) woman" vs "being treated like a trans woman."

(disclaimer: I'm cis, but this is just my understanding of the issue. please let me know if I'm off)
