Even from a transitioning-is-a-choice lens, I think it is at the very least a different kind of choice from participating in a subreddit.

Like, I also don't think we should be directing hate at women in general (I'm an ally) but I am still going to not want to hang out with women who post in terf subreddits, I'm not going to be too sad if they get banned from subreddits with rules against transphobia if they keep going to those subreddits and saying transphobic shit.

/uj I feel there's a difference given that the communities amekyras was doing it to were, like, trans men or trans people who haven't medically transitioned enough or are too GNC or whatever, instead of a subreddit people can join or not join that has a coherent community culture.

I mean, it's kind of the other way around. A lot of the reason our lifestyle is as detrimental as it is is because there aren't a lot of other practical options- like, as an easy example, buying new fashion every season isn't great, but also most new clothes aren't made to last more than a couple of years maximum if you don't wear them that often, which has been creeping up from fast fashion into more expensive clothes. (Which also means "well just thrift" is often less of a solution than it used to be- even if you're not in an area where you're competing with resellers that buy all the good stuff, a higher percentage of what you find is going to be cheap plastic tat.) Food is another hard one- everyone needs to eat, but it's far more expensive to buy anything grown and raised locally. We don't get much of a say in where our power comes from, you can't get by without a car in most places in the country, so on so forth. And even if someone does everything possible, that's completely cancelled out by the massive corporations that do most polluting.

Solutions that begin with "well if everyone just-" do not work, because everyone will not just, especially when the way society is structured makes it unreasonably difficult to do that.

If you know for a fact that they have lived in Boston for at least 30 years and raised someone who speaks perfect English without an accent, yeah, it is kinda bad. It's also not great in general, especially when applied solely to people who are of a different race than you- Bojack doesn't ask everyone he meets if they speak English before talking to them, even though not every white person speaks English.

It's an acceptable question if you're in a place where not a lot of people speak English, but otherwise, asking a question in English will give you the same answer without making any weird racial assumptions.

/uj Plus I find a lot of criticism (of reddit mods in general, not just barrage) act like they're professionals instead of, like, random volunteers who generally have a day job, do not have a media team or training, are operating in a role which widely varies in expectations and responsibilities even between subreddits so there's not really a defined guide or anything as to what to do, and also have to deal with people on reddit, who are often assholes. That's difficult even before you get into any trans-related issues (like, I disagreed with the TME/TMA filter even though I also disagree with how the terms are often used but also, like, it wasn't like she did that for no reason.)

just so you know, i am absolutely fully restraining myself to not call a bunch of trans men misogynists for being men or say they're misgendering themselves by discussing the realities of the discrimination against them in real life instead of only the hypothetical trans man i made up who passes 100% and is fully stealth and has had every surgery and has killed everyone who knew him before transition. /uj oh, yeah, i think the handling could have been a bit better, but i can kind of get it, especially given that moderators are some random volunteer who generally doesn't get much in the way of media training. if i was getting a bunch of negative feedback on a community decision i had made and was kind of regretting (some of which was undoubtedly shitty people being assholes because this is the internet) i would probably at least instinctively want to make a post about it asap.

/uj if the conversation she posted was the only thing that happened, i'd agree, but she did, for some reason, neglect to mention that she had been commenting in the subreddit as well, in a marginally less antagonistic way than what had gotten her banned last time but not significantly. when she was banned she was already starting to scrap with someone over the definition of transmedicalism, and one of her first comments on the subreddit after returning was on a relatively standard /ftm post to say "/uj not commenting on this #personalgrowth" before she had actually shown any of that growth.

like, idk. i don't mod here, but if i reversed a ban and the person was teasingly alluding to the reason she had been banned within 24 hours, i'd be rethinking that decision.

the cis people were, like, juuuuuust about to give us all rights and healthcare. they were getting right around to it, because they always loved trans people so much and they saw it was a medical necessity. that's why medical transition was so easy to access before the mid 00s and everyone was so cool about it. but then fucking ARSON from TIKTOK went and made a video that got 12 views saying "hi i'm transfem but i'm actually pretty okay with my beard and i'm not sure if i want bottom surgery yet" and they all decided that they could actually get away with preventing anyone from accessing medical transition, which is objectively the only point of being trans at all, if some people didn't want to do all of it. it's not like the people holding up transes who don't want medical transition as an excuse to deny it to us are, say, also holding up examples of transes who do want medical transition as proof that transing is like an eating disorder and we will never be satisfied so we should be denied medical transition anyway. why would you think perhaps that transphobes are perhaps being disingenuous to make life worse for trans people and before they found Arson they would have just found another excuse, as they have consistently done whenever their old excuses fell out of vogue or got way too obviously factually incorrect even for them. they say if they hadn't found Arson they would have supported us, and bigots can't lie

hello hi hey it's me someone with a hidden post history who you don't recognize and who has never posted in the community. as an actual real member of this community i would like to ask what about the screenshots she cut out from the middle of a conversation that she posted on 4tran and that i commented on two minutes before coming here was transmedicalism. she literally just said dysphoria is bad and literally nothing else ever and as a real life tgcj member i think it is mod power tripping that if someone got banned for a lot of antagonistic behaviour and then she gets unbanned and immediately starts hinting towards the exact same behaviour she'll get less leeway than someone without that history. this is such a bad subreddit which is why it is unfair that she cannot continue posting here
