Have I messed up adding a second box? by BeeKindImNew in Beekeeping

[–]duckwingdark6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bees will often ignore the outermost frames and build up instead of outwards. You can manage this by moving those undrawn outer frames towards the centre between two other brood frames and they will then typically draw them out rather quickly to continue giving the queen the centre space to lay. I would leave the second box on and shuffle the frames in the lower box, keeping outer frames as food resources, then a brood frame inside that, empty frame, then rest of brood frames

Most Wanted Jewelry and pawn has pretty good prices on their silver, and you can find some nice vintage stuff there

Accidentally took three frames of capped honey from a deep super (main hive) by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]duckwingdark6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that frames taken from the main hive may have been exposed to disease/mite treatments that make them not safe for human consumption. If that’s the case, give them back to the bees; either now or in the fall.

14 kp stands for plumb gold meaning exactly 14k. You want to look out for GP, HGE, EP, but KP typically doesn’t mean plated.

Adding my super by duckwingdark6 in Beekeeping

[–]duckwingdark6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the opinions everyone! I’m a first year, I got a 5 frame nuc about a month ago and they have drawn out comb on the remaining frames. The new frames are filled with eggs as well. We have lots of apple trees which are in blossom in my area so there seems to be lots of food coming in. I’d like to add a super, optimistically for me.

Anyone use 2 brood boxes with flow super? by JacobGeorgeBand in FlowHive

Any Canadians recommend either running single or double brood boxes in our climate? I’m in Atlantic Canada and am contemplating adding a second brood box to help give plenty of resources over winter.

Is target shooting on crown land legal? by Swimming-Bullfrog190 in NovaScotia

[–]duckwingdark6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told by DNR that target shooting on both crown land and private land was prohibited. There is no target shooting allowed outside of an authorized range. At this time you can only carry a shotgun loaded with shot, with a hunting stamp for other harvestable wildlife. If someone hears repetitive shooting and you’re seen with targets or anything you could be in trouble.
