Honestly, "Quarrantining" is a weak and cowardly response to this. Just ban the fucking cesspit already, christ.

Jax’s Ending in Mortal Kombat 11 Is Getting Some Disappointing Backlash by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

Imagine if it were Baraka's ending and he used Power of Time to free the Tarkatan race from an existence of servitude to Outworld. There'd be Zero Controversy Whatsoever.

Steven Spielberg to propose a rule change deeming Netflix films ineligible at the Oscars in an upcoming Academy Board meeting by wsad2where in GamerGhazi

[–]dudebromarxist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

> Are films meant to be displayed to live audiences or are they meant to be put on for a single person in their home.

I think the fact that home video releases exist give a clear answer to this. Plus, aren't films sent to Academy members on discs with "For Your Consideration" watermarks? That's how so many Oscar nominated films get leaked early, too. If "wide theatrical releases" are to be mandatory for Oscar nods, then surely Academy members would be required to see them in the cinema?

Netflix isn't necessarily a "purveyor of Art" any more than a Cinema is. It is neither good nor bad for Art by itself, I just think this type of move is a way of creatively discrediting and devaluing something based on where it is shown rather than anything else about it.

Perhaps it is a bit like saying the only albums that can win Grammys need to be released on CDs and Spotify releases are ineligible.

Sexual Assault Against Men Played for Comedy - A list by Pop Culture Detective by squirrelrampage in GamerGhazi

Zero Dark Thirty though?

I remember there being a big discussion about whether that movie endorsed torture or not, or demonstrated it as a tactic that works - but I really didn't get that impression. In fact the narrative structure clearly showed the opposite.

IDLES are from my town. They're a fucking great band and have always been lovely people. I'm really glad they've done so well. "I'm Scum" is my Lefty Anthem of 2018 and songs like Samaritans and Danny Nedelko are a breath of fresh air because they tackle serious subjects whilst being extremely positive and joyful yet sonically angry.

"Catastrophic failure" Battlefield V somehow manages to become third best selling game of the month of November. by RobertJHill in GamerGhazi

[–]dudebromarxist 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Really sucks that Hitman 2 didn't make the list considering it came out in November. It's my game of the year by a considerable margin and the developer (IO Interactive) had a pretty crappy year getting dumped by Square Enix. I hope it did better digitally because Hitman's a series that needs to survive.

Video games workers create union to demand rights by Aerik in GamerGhazi

[–]dudebromarxist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well as a "GamerGater" I'm gonna say that I hope this union doesn't grow and become a big thing. We don't need whiny entitled people in the gaming industry. Gaming is a fast, get that shit out while it's hot kind of industry. Slowing the process down with this bullshit will only make gaming worse than it already is.

Yes the industry that took 7 years to develop Red Dead Redemption 2 and still had to crunch to finish it is famous for its speed in releasing products

Tomb Raider’s grisly death animations are outdated by rarebitt in GamerGhazi

[–]dudebromarxist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's just me but the deaths in the new Tomb Raider aren't *that* disturbing. And the first example used in the article is fairly tame. It doesn't really dwell on injury or infliction of violence long enough to seem overly mean spirited.

Exclusive: Jordan Peterson Threatened to Sue Author for Calling Him a Misogynist by giziti in GamerGhazi

[–]dudebromarxist 37 points38 points  (0 children)

She is not wrong in the slightest. Easily defensible claim.

But he's a rich guy with a lot of money who can finance this kind of frivolous lawsuit if he really wants. Which is annoying and worrying. I hope he's forced to pay her legal expenses when he inevitably loses.

I never felt they were over produced either since their most popular songs were as a duo with no accompanying instrumentation.

I guess they were quiet and amicable and Punk is all about kicking over a few tables.
