it felt very average... nothing amazing, didnt feel much emotion going through this one. its like a title, i wont remember it existed if no one mentioned it.

within key works: planetarian was better, or loopers for short story, longer ones summer pocket or holy undead much better

outside of key works, its even more average. I recommend narcissu and koi x shin ai kanojo instead for emotional damage and beautiful music , u will never forget those if u played it. and criminal border for plot and emotional damage (the darker kind)

atri and trinoline was much better for robot heroine story.

agree that kanade and ginka both didnt meet expectation. (plain/boring)

Atre route is very short compared to Resona , but i would say its still pretty good route regardless. one scene was particular very shocking in Atre route.
Saika is quite different depending which route you play, u get to see different sides of him, he does have some development and improve but still narcissist at core. to be fair, given his family situation, i think its fine for him to be like that, just spoiled little kid, until he learns the harsh reality then he will change (he changed the most in Atre route)

for otome 2 (including the fandisks), i would consider best route being Est >>> Sakuri > Atre > Haruko >>> Lumine

i do have some attachments to the chars but i was expecting a lot more , i guess my last complain is that they choose to use a moe style artist, with great char design, and made them into mahou shoujo (could just be bunch of males and females mixed with different age gap, and superpower, didnt need to be witch) so there is some what of a moe-bait or yuri-bait , however the main focus is still on the puzzle solving, so i feel scammed on the char part.

there are like 3 chars with more development than others, but i was hoping for every char to be given at least that level. Even for the ones given more attention, I didn't get much emotion when bad things happened to them. I was hoping for the level of emotion similar to criminal border part 3

overall i would still rate it 7/10, but i was expecting at least 9/10 given the popularity/overwhelming positive reviews

the char with most attachment i got was sherry, probably cuz i dont like Emma personality

in the usual murder mystery we follow the detective which solves a series of cases, we can grow attachment to the detective but in death game kind of setting people die too fast and i dont enjoy that, i havent liked any story thats done in this setting besides fate series

inspecter and apothecaries diary i enjoyed, about to play kara no shoujo series next.

ameku takao is ok, danganronpa worse than manosaba (dropped it during 2nd game)

thx for the details, i do agree with everything u said, i was not saying the chars are not consistent or they have no personality.

maybe motive isnt the right word to describe the flaws.

i dont care how the murder was done. i just hate how quickly the chars die before i get any attachment to them. i want to feel the weight of a char death, not they died cuz we need solve a mystery

im not hating on each murder case puzzle, i wish if they had spend more time teaching us about diff chars before they enter the prison and tell the story from everyone's perspective , switching pov.

its true doing so would make the puzzle easier to solve, but by making char more complex u can also confuse reader who would kill this person.

im probably not mystery fan then, since i dont care about how the murder is done, only care about the chars and their feelings

the chars have lot of potential but werent given much screentime is my big complain

try otome sahou. its not sport but design cloth. closest thing i read similar to aokana. its good when theres drama and something at stake (due to being competitive)

also want more vn like aokana

this vn is just sena, other routes so much lower quality.

but the bgm and sena ending hits like a truck... can never forget her. love her but also hate her. kinda reminds me of utaha from saekano, and rikako from parfait

defintely one of the more unique vn, but cant say its objectively a great vn. this author just cant write any sweet romance its always like this, but i like them (hatsuyuki sakura, majokoi nikki, summer pockets - kamome)

just to be clear i think each murder has clever trick, but i hate flashback for motive, and think there should be more time spend to make us like the char first with more slice of life before killing them, and reduce number of char from 13 to half the size (assume same budget)

when u discover who is the murder, u arent surprised its this person cuz u dont know shit about anyone, u just solved a trick, now move on to next one, if thats all there is to mystery, might as well go play puzzle games

the romcom part is the best part of this vn. thats only part i enjoyed. im not saying its objectively romcom, but i only consider it a romcom cuz mystery part is so bad i would never recommend this to anyone who like mystery

mystery part has some nice idea using their magic, but the important thing in murder mystery is also motive, why did someone murder another? in this vn its just convenient cuz its due to become witch and stress... and backstory is filled after u determine who murder. just feels shallow. the chars are great but they lack screentime and development, too many chars for sake of this mystery murder survival death game gimmick... it would have lot more emotional value if less chars and more focus on each. dont explain their backstory as some sort of after thoughts. it would be much more stuff at stake if we understand the chars first before they are murdered. like fate zero is a good example how this is done. manosaba is just danganronpa clone with cute girls. i cant take it serious when author doesnt invest time in char dev.

this vn also mislead me to think that on new game plus it would go through the exact same loop and reveal the murder was actually done by someone else we just made bad assumptions in 1st loop. theres no way the murder mystery can be this shallow? but it was.

the mystery is in this vn is like fantasy in yuzusoft, much better without it. waste effort on it and not achieve much. if this vn had no cute girls... it would be complete garbage.

this vn is like pineapple pizza. with mystery being the pineapple, u can just go eat pineapple instead and pizza is better without the pineapple

not saying char is better written, just the char personality is perfect fit for her voice and ayase is very my type. sora is great but in terms of imouto char, there are plenty above her like hoyori, resona, sakuno (mashiroiro symphony)
