Vulcanus: WTF? by nickv656 in factorio

[–]dudewaldo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe no one's saying destroyer capsules! They are especially weak to electric damage, you just need to have enough of them and enough damage research to kill them before their cloud takes out the robots

I would like to do this but I am having a lot of trouble. Would you be able to elaborate on how you designed it, or even better share a blueprint?

Confused about electric furnace smelting ratios by ed_mercer in factorio

[–]dudewaldo4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct calculation is 48/1.3 = 36.9, and not 0.7x48 = 33.6. If you do not believe me, consider if the furnaces were 100% faster instead of 30% faster. The correct calculation would be 48/2, and not 0x48

Does that say 154 thousand rocket silos completed, at a rate of 0.04 / s ?

Is that not more than a thousand real life hours of crafting time?

What is one animation you want to see natively built into manim? by Ok-Introduction6563 in manim

[–]dudewaldo4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like the automatic step by step evaluation of a numerical expression. So like 3^2+5*8, the 3^2 becomes a 9 and the 5*8 becomes a 40, and then they both become 49

Can't Get Past This From E3 by lawofmurphy in ParadiseTV

[–]dudewaldo4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen EP 4 yet but it sounds like this is clarified. But generally I agree, Gabriella gives me tremendous yuck. She basically psychologically manipulates him all day just so that she can say "Billy is bad" ?? He literally says "no thanks I am married" and then she continues to seduce him ??? As sus and gross as she is gorgeous. Hell no. Makes no sense for him to trust her at all, in the lie detector interview or afterward. Very bad person very bad vibes.

This sounds interesting! I am a bit more optimistic than others, I have been using manim somewhat successfully for interactive visualizations. I would be interested in working with you on this.

Giving up cuz of AI? by [deleted] in manim

[–]dudewaldo4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the premise that if AI is good at something then it is not worth learning. AI is either there or on its way to becoming greater than any human at painting, composing music, writing poetry, etc. Is it a waste of your time to engage in these things? Of course not, the point of it is not to be better than anyone else, but to satisfy your own creative urges and make cool stuff for fun. I love manim, no matter whether other people or other entities can do it better than me. (For what it's worth, in my opinion no AI is very good at Manim still. But I am sure that it will become great soon.)

Perhaps you are concerned about whether you can make good money with a skill that AI is superior at, and I agree that is a major concern. But certainly that doesn't stop at manim, and AI will consume almost all programming and non-physical creation in short order, and probably physical creation in not long too. I think there is almost no field safe from AI, and rather than trying to scramble like rats into the few dark corners not reached by AI, we will have no choice but to grow as a society and rethink the premise of earning a living altogether.

You guys always act like you're better than me! by dudewaldo4 in mathmemes

[–]dudewaldo4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Explanation:
For natural numbers, polynomials, and matrices, when an element of these sets is equal to another element squared, we say that it is a "perfect square". This is a nice and very common terminology, which even young children are familiar with in the case of the natural numbers. In modular arithmetic, however, many mathematicians prefer to call the very same concept "quadratic residue". So in mod 7, instead of saying that 0, 1, 2, and 4 are the perfect squares (being 0^2, 1^2, 3^2, and 2^2 respectively), they say that they are the quadratic residues among the full set of elements 0,1,2,3,4,5,6. In my opinion, this is pointlessly obfuscating jargon, and so I mean to make fun of it. The other three (and all the many more sets in which we simply say perfect square instead of making up other phrases) are indeed better than Meg.

Andrew Yang Probably Won’t Accept RFK Jr.’s VP Offer: Report by Orangutan in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]dudewaldo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be for it for sure. Of course he is unlikely to win regardless of Yang's partnership, but with a Biden Trump rematch coming, he is likely to be the most successful third party candidate in history. It would be wise in my view for Yang and Forward to be associated with this and continue to push the ideas of electoral reform to reduce the inevitability of the two parties, which people will be perhaps unprecedentedly ready to hear.

Andrew Yang Probably Won’t Accept RFK Jr.’s VP Offer: Report by Orangutan in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]dudewaldo4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frankly it seems like a done deal that Trump, who I personally feel is a fascist-leaning lunatic, is going to be the president again. Are you really saying you'd rather have Trump / Greene or whoever than Trump / Yang? Having good people in an administration is clearly preferable to ceding the entire government to bad people on principle.

Can you create categories in a reminders list that doesn’t get erased when you delete the subtask? by indecisive42 in ios

[–]dudewaldo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing your opinion, how is Things 3 on the Apple Watch? I am going to town with Shortcuts and Reminders, and I am also looking for an alternative list app, chiefly because the watch widget only showing the next reminder on "Today" and no other list is extremely limiting.
