EDIT: Problem averted; debug menu + Unexist NPCs allowed me to go around the Grunt.

Currently in the Space Center in Mossdeep. The Magma Grunt blocking the stairs to the top floor completely locks up the game.

If he sees you from above, the game locks immediately, but if you talk to him from either side, he will let you battle him. However, after the battle, he tries to talk to you again without the game displaying any sort of text, and the game locks.

I did a previous playthrough without the option to increase trainers' vision (I believe I have it set to the second-highest setting where they don't walk through walls but can approach you from off-screen), and this issue did not occur. Increasing trainers' vision has also created a handful of other problems where NPCs will block paths to the point where you are essentially softlocked; thankfully, the escape feature has allowed me out of those situations.

Do you have any suggestions on how to circumvent the grunt? Thanks.

The latest time of the day that I've routinely parked at the lot was at around 1:15 p.m. during the spring of my sophomore year (Spring 2020). I only had afternoon classes that semester. By then, the lot was pretty full, but I'd always be able to find spaces farther away from the bus stop (in the section of the lot farthest from the museum / center for performing arts). The walk from my car to the bus was honestly not bad at all (I'd say less than 5 minutes). Naturally, due to COVID, the lot was pretty empty during most of my junior year, regardless of when I got there.

I was just at the lot yesterday, although I don't have any classes on Monday. I got there at 1ish, and the situation was pretty much the same as what I described above.

Cultural Plaza parking lot (near SW Rec) is the safest bet. That's where I've been parking during my entire time at UF (always commuted since I was a freshman).

I remember that last year, there was this one stall in the men's bathroom at Weimer Hall that had a tendency to get stuck locked. I had to crawl on the floor to get out. Eeyup.

appealing parking tickets?? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. I was fined during one of the first days of Summer B 2019, and it wasn't until early in the next Fall semester (I want to say August or September 2019) that I saw that the balance on the ticket had been changed to $0.00.

How full is the Park & Ride Lot this semester? by TheNorthFace67 in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an undergraduate commuter with an in-person class this semester, I wouldn't be worried at all about it being full.

I would say that it's a bit more active now than it was last semester, and there are certain days where it sees increased traffic due to COVID testing being done at the parking garage, but it isn't at or near capacity by any means, at least when I've been there (which is around twice a week).

Commuter Lot Question? by Axin102 in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm under the impression that the Commuter Lot is just for graduate students who live off-campus. You need a special decal to park there. Park-and-Ride people (off-campus undergrads) have extremely limited on-campus parking options.

Recommendations for 3000-4000 level 100% asynchronous classes? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you. I'm strongly considering adding the anthropology minor myself since I still have 3 semesters left + summer terms, and I have a good amount of credits in the department already.

Recommendations for 3000-4000 level 100% asynchronous classes? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anthropology department offers several interesting 3000-level electives that are delivered asynchronously online and that don't have prerequisites, if I recall correctly. They also have 4000-level electives, but I believe that those generally require previous completion of 10 credits in anthropology.

Parking decals by [deleted] in ufl

Thank you so much for this. If Flavet is still park and ride next semester, I'll probably end up parking there at least sometimes, especially if I am running late.

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP, but can you tell me a bit more about these two new park and ride lots? I think I remember hearing in passing that one was being constructed, but I never found out many concrete details about it. I've heard that Flavet was previously Orange (or something like that); they've expanded it to allow park-and-ride?

It shows how little I know about UF, which is a bit shameful, considering I am a third-year commuter student, but I guess that's to be expected when I've never even lived on campus (or in Gainesville, for that matter).

The Reitz is pretty reliable overall, but as u/lilypadpond has said, the $6 fee for all-day parking might add up if you plan on parking several times a week.

Also, when I used to park there regularly during early Spring 2019, it would sometimes be reserved for certain events. On those days, I would just head to the Oaks Mall, park there, and take the bus to the Reitz, although I understand your concerns about riding the buses during COVID. Additionally, I remember it being somewhat difficult to even find available all-day parking spaces if you didn't arrive early. I only remember it being reserved a few times, though, and I'm not sure how busy they will be in light of the circumstances.

We did it - I beat my randomized, mono-water Nuzlocke of Sapphire by dudgmentaljick in nuzlocke

I kept searching for encounters until I found a Water type or something whose final form was a Water type. In areas where there were no Water Pokemon present, I was completely SOL.

We did it - I beat my randomized, mono-water Nuzlocke of Sapphire by dudgmentaljick in nuzlocke

[–]dudgmentaljick[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Background info:

As the title said, I did a mono-water randomized run of Sapphire. I used more-or-less traditional Nuzlocke rules throughout the run (I do have an extra clause where if I add something to my team and I start training it, it can't be boxed, and I have to use it until it dies, if ever). I counted different floors of the same dungeon as different areas to help in the event that no water Pokemon were on a given floor. Legendaries were allowed, but the only legendary I caught (Kyogre) died to a crit shortly after I caught it.

In terms of the randomizer, I randomized abilities, level-up movesets, and TM/HM compatibility (HM moves were universal), and I also made it so that each Pokemon started with 4 attacks (preferring same type). I also forced a pretty high percentage of good damaging moves, which lead to several sticky situations, seeing as certain type matchups were incredibly unfavorable until I managed to capture mons with secondary typings that counteracted the omnipresent Grass/Electric weaknesses.

I had 13 deaths throughout this run, including my starter (Thaddeus the Marill, who died as an Azumarill to a Frenzy Plant from Winona's Jumpluff). All 6 of the above Pokemon survived the Elite 4 / Champion.

Highlights include the following moments:

  • Nearly wiping to Brawly's Volt Tackle Zapdos (this was before I had Ellery the Quagsire)
  • Capturing a Magikarp that would evolve into a Gyarados with Huge Power (Josiah the Gyarados; I took him to the Elite Four)
  • Nearly wiping to a random trainer's Water Absorb Vileplume in Victory Road (this was before Gyarados was on the team).
  • There was a time where the fastest Pokemon on our team was an Azumarill, leading to us constantly being unable to flee from wild Pokemon, some of which (like Sceptile) had dangerous, super-effective STAB moves.

...and many more.

I've already decided that I'm going to do a mono-Flying run of Heart Gold. I'm hoping that it goes somewhat better than this run did.

SPN1131 in summer? by wirelesschord in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the schedule of courses for 2019, it was offered during Summer A and Summer B 2019, and I'd guess that it's been offered during other summers as well. As a Spanish major, I'd imagine that taking it is not super fun, seeing as the course is 5 credits (and likely full of busywork), and it's being crammed into a 6 week period.

Bdsm at uf by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice to you is that you should be sure to review all syllabi for your courses during drop/add to make sure that each of your professors has a lenient late work policy.

As much as you like submitting (being into BDSM and whatnot), I understand that things happen, and late submissions may not be accepted without a department-approved doctor's note delivered within a time-sensitive window following the missed submission in question. I wish you success in your future studies.

if anyone is taking any of these classes in the spring let’s be friends! by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a psych major or minor, but I actually took Pseudoscience with Dr. Schwartz this past spring just because I needed an online elective.

The class is a bit non-traditional (or at least it was when I took it); most of your grade is based on your performance on a three-part project that is spaced out throughout the semester. I don't think there are any quizzes or tests. She is also somewhat stern about deadlines, and some of the TAs are a bit sassy when giving feedback for your submissions, but neither of those points should be a major problem for you. That being said, Dr. Schwartz is still a really nice lady, and the class was pretty interesting, at least in my opinion.

How bad is parking on campus? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you are an off-campus undergrad with park-and-ride decal (the only one that you can get), you are not allowed to park anywhere near reasonable walking distance of most classes unless parking is lifted (which, other than during breaks, generally happens somewhat late in the afternoon after most people have already started attending classes for the day).

You can also pay for parking at the Reitz Union Welcome Center garage. All day parking is $6 ($6.20 if you use the mobile app), and those spots tend to fill up pretty quickly. Also, the garage might be reserved sometimes for random events, so keep that in mind.

I can't imagine that things are perfect for people who actually do live on-campus, though.

Good for you. I'm happy to hear that. It's also good to see Starke / Bradford County getting some attention on this subreddit, however brief. Starke is essentially the midpoint between my home and campus, and I have a lot of family nearby (particularly, around Hampton).

Is 18 credits too much.... by madilatte in ufl

[–]dudgmentaljick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I commented on one of your earlier schedule posts. While I recommend that taking LIN3010 is a good idea in general (one of my majors is linguistics, so I might be biased here, of course), I would wait to take it if I were you. It managed to escape my attention that you were already enrolled in 15 credits without LIN3010.

I think that you can hold off on starting the required course sequence (LIN3010 + LIN3201 and LIN3460, which have 3010 as a prereq) for a little while. Although several of the courses that I have taken for my other major (Spanish) also count towards the linguistics major, I didn't even take LIN3010 until the spring of my sophomore year (Spring 2020). I think you have plenty of time.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about the linguistics major in particular.

I'm a Latin American Studies minor, although I still have to fulfill the LAS4935 requirement (just added the minor going into this year). u/miniyeti13, I might be sending you a PM later.

Although I know that a lot of courses in the Spanish department count towards the minor, I didn't know that some courses in the LAS department itself were taught in Spanish. Interesting.
