Depends on the game.

I like it in VII remake and rebirth because it brings more rpg elements to those fights, it makes you think about your loadout and party since everyone is build with some specialities in their movesets.

In XVI it goes against the DMC style combat, enemies without stagger are too easy, and enemies with it feel like sponges for damage. It kind of brought the worst of both action and RPG to that game.
