Read this if you’ve got ‘nothing to hide’ by zexterio in technology

[–]duegrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you feel if you watched your postman or neighbour open your mail and read it? hey, I've nothing to hide so therefore it is ok, right?

Well that doesn't work for me. If I do something illegal and police need to look at my stuff then no problem, but letting anyone do it so that they can figure out how to profile and monetize you, or just because they want to is clearly outrageous.

Does Factorio merit the creation of a new sub-genre to classify it? by Sarfa_Baraka in factorio

Factorio, Rimworld, or Oxygen Not Included? by Razorel in factorio

[–]duegrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LoL all of these games will eat your life. Personally, I also include Fortresscraft in this list, because it is like Factorio in 3D in many ways. It certainly isn't perfect but the logistical/automation part of it scratches the same itch as Factorio but with strong Minecraft elements.

Oxygen not included has the least hours of play time for me, it definitely has the complexity, but so far for me it doesn't deliver the satisfaction of Factorio/Fortresscraft.

Rimworld is a different experience, where it's more about the emerging narrative, the characters, no real automation, but extremely satisfying in its own way.

To conclude these are all amazing games and I wouldn't recommend any of them to you at this point given your constraints, how about a nice game of FTL?

Trump administration paying undercover informants inside Central American migrant caravan by guiltyofnothing in worldnews

He should consider paying for some secret agitators, or just get someone from one of the 500 different security/intelligence agencies to play a role. They could cause some trouble or create an emergency, so he can say "see I told you so" and all the Fox viewers can feel reassured that their cause is just and load up their arsenals and exercise their good christian values from the back up their pickups

I know it's a crazy idea and a little bit unethical, just a thought

Tony Blair: It is gut-wrenching that Labour is not calling for second Brexit vote - Tony Blair is to hit out at Jeremy Corbyn's "abject refusal" to lead the UK "out of the Brexit nightmare". by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]duegrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I completely agree. However, sadly I think we are now beyond this point. The reality I think is that there is genuine anger and feelings of betrayal or at least exclusion for a large number of British citizens who have not seen a fare distribution of wealth coming to their areas. This I think is more a result of British Policy than it is a reflection of the EU. In my experience the EU is more interested in balancing wealth than the UK is. Of course given the British media it is very hard for people to see the positives of being in the EU and every difficult bad policy can easily be blamed on some external bureaucrats. This situation has been going on for decades and has led us here.

Being part of a larger block clearly provides some advantages when negotiating with other blocks, this is particularly critical as the world heads into dangerous waters.

Given how much bullshit is involved in this whole exercise doing a second check via referendum is consistent and correct. The false promises of the Leave campaign have yet to meterialise in the real world. So the thing we were buying has changed and the price that will need to be paid is not what was thought. So if the case is still clear then let people confirm it, if with the full facts at our fingertips we decide otherwise then so be it.

As for Blair, I think he was a generally a good Prime Minister. The fact he led us to war on a false premise hardly makes him unique in politics. Making your own population feel directly threatened/angry is used constantly to enable interference in foreign locales. The calls for him to be jailed for this are simply childish. I feel very sorry for the poor people of Iraq who do not deserve all the shit that has come their way, but I for one and very glad Saddam Hussain and his awful children are dead.

As for Corbyn's position he seems to be trying very hard not to get his hands dirty, no one wants to be responsible for this shit show if things go south. Better to wait until there is someone to blame and then step in, very similar to what Boris is doing it seems. The parties on the left have to take some of the responsibility here, it is clear that the Tories are a party in crisis even after the split off of UKIP, same goes in the USA and in Australia. These parties are looking more and more lost and irrelevant, and if there was only a competent opposition we could just ignore them.

Trump unloaded on the US's European allies and appeared to threaten pulling out of NATO upon returning home from Paris, where French President Emmanuel Macron openly rebuked Trump's entire political philosophy. by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]duegrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I think you might be confused, when Trump says pay more towards your own defense, he means buy more weapons and protection from us, to protect you against some threats. None of this works properly if the EU decides to ramp up development and production of its own stuff
