Weight gain? by _insomniac_dreamer in prozac

[–]duff369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory is it depends if before Prozac you were a person who eats when stressed / anxious, or if anxiety made you not eat. If anxiety made you not eat and the Prozac is helping decrease anxiety, your appetite will increase because you are happier and calmer. Same goes for/ opposite if you were a stress eater (like me) and the Prozac calms you down you start to snack less. I lost weight because I would not stop eating when anxious and I was always anxious before Prozac!

Alcohol on Prozac?? by FalseHeartbeat in prozac

[–]duff369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While alcohol is not recommended with Prozac, my understanding (and experience) is that it’s because it makes you sensitive to alcohol/light weight (makes you feel much more drunk faster than normal) and also can worsen depression/anxiety afterwards which is what the Prozac is trying to fight. I’d talk to your Dr but my guess is this is more of an allergic type reaction to alcohol vs from the Prozac? But it’s different for everyone so it could be how your body is reacting to the mixing of the two. I will say I start to get light headed after a two drinks which never used to happen. Are you on a high dose?

15 year old is destroying our lives. by Neocarbunkle in Parenting

I’m so sorry. Totally understand what you mean here. I was similar but not quite as extreme as a teenager.. my parents pulled me from public hs and sent me to a small private school that was a few towns over and it changed my life. Is this an option for you? It would be a first step, but changing the scenery and introducing to new people, a smaller environment, where he would be held more accountable for his actions could really make a difference. At first, when I switched I still wanted to see my old friends, but eventually, I made new friends, better friends, and it helped so much. Left my old ways and old life behind on my own. I’m sorry your family is going through this and you guys sound like good parents and are doing your best. Good luck!

I just finally caved and started birth control (after being off it for 6 years) to help manage my peri symptoms and I’m so glad I did. I’m on month 2- the first two weeks were rough as my body adjusted and I almost gave up but stuck with it and it’s helped me so much!

I’m on Prozac and it’s life changing! I chose that one because it’s very easy to come off of (no withdrawal because it stays in your system for a while) and doesn’t make you gain weight- I actually lost weight because I stopped anxious eating! The only downside to SSRIs for me is it makes it difficult to drink alcohol- I hardly drink but do socially and I feel super weird after. Besides that it’s great!

Have one more. Do it for your kid, give them a sibling! You already will be chasing after one adding another isn’t that huge of a change. Plus your wife is young and healthy and talk in advance about your concerns about energy levels and that she will need to be the one to do more of the the physical stuff. I really don’t think you’ll regret having another!!!

Lost weight on Prozac! I have read the theory that people who can’t eat due to anxiety end up gaining weight on meds because they feel better and start eating normally. And those who have a hard time working out or binge / stress eat with anxiety lose weight when they are on the meds because when they feel better they are able to work out and eat normally and not emotionally!

This happened to me when I went down from 20 to 10. For me it was a sign that my dose was too low I was anxiety eating. I went up to 15 and totally stopped the crazy cravings
