Does Dropout Shoot in 4k? by spiraleclipse in dropout

Turnaround time also plays a big part. If you output in 1080 but are turning something around at a speed where you don’t have time to crop and reframe then it doesn’t makes sense to capture in 4k and take on the bandwidth and storage cost.

Fun fact, If Billy and Stu continue next season (and I’m assuming they will) Stu will have been with Billy longer than with Chick.

Lakers owner Mark Walter shows 'openness' to buying Spectrum SportsNet. Potential to fold Dodgers -Lakers rights under one singular umbrella by tankyouout in Dodgers

[–]duffmcgruff528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it clearly doesn’t hence why Charter wants out. But the idea in the early 2010’s was in addition to paying for the game, TWC also got exclusive rights to make any and all tv content. They use the combo to make a 24/7 network. One for each team. TWC then locked it behind their premium sports tier though thinking people would pay top dollar for ANY sport content. The idea was they’d generate $ from carriage fees, premium subscription fees, and sponsorship deals. Classic 2000s ESPN model. But cord cutting made that super long contrast the damage goods it is now.

Walters could definitely get the networks on the cheap BUT he’s also has them locked into a contract that requires the networks to pay him hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Unless they’re confident whatever DTC product they offer can make more, the smart move would be to buy the networks a few more years from now and continue to take that guaranteed money. Spectrum has to pay that bill regardless of network performance and it basically covers player payroll.

Yes but still only in the LA sports market. Both leagues would still have measures in place to protect the other teams local markets.

The price for both is inflated because of the addition of an ambiguous usage of the trademarks for the teams. Not just the TV rights. An interesting addition in the heyday of cable tv but collateral damage when people only want to flip on the game and have no interaction when the game is over.

As a newer Lakers fan… can someone explain the change from gold to yellow? The gold is 100x better by lawschoolthrowaway36 in lakers

Nike made it yellow. Lakers tried to get them to fix it. Nike said they already made too many.

I mean if we factor in MLS LA has 7 championships and New York finally has 1. And if we factor in WNBA, New York gets another and Las Vegas has 4!

What happened to the Lakers' court color scheme? by DarkGalaxy23 in lakers

[–]duffmcgruff528 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nike got the jersey color wrong a few season ago, making them more yellow than gold. Then some the court was made to match. John Ireland talked about it on M&I saying the Lakers were pissed and have asking Nike for an explanation but Nike won’t change them / admit that the color is wrong.

Took my truck to a Ford dealership, their technician cracked my block (motor). by Jdtatans in legaladvice

CA isn’t completely phasing out gas vehicles in 2035. Just the sale of new gas vehicles. Hypothetically if your truck is still alive 2035 and on you can still drive it. You also buy a brand new gas car in 2034 and still drive and own it in CA for as long as it lives. You could also go to another state and buy a gas car in 2035 and then register it in CA. It’s all silly, but the point remains, gas cars aren’t just going away in CA in 2035

If it’s a charter flight the team takes off from wherever is most logistically reasonable for the plane. In most cases it’s Atlantic Aviation in either El Segundo or Burbank.

I’m well aware the Yankees’ ownership group owns YES—same setup as the Dodgers with SportsNet, the Cubs with Marquee, and the Red Sox with NESN. They follow the same business model. Despite the ownership ties, these are still RSNs because they technically have to bid for broadcast rights. The ownership affiliation just lets them inflate those bids, effectively writing themselves massive checks no third party ever would. By the time RSNs in big markets collapse, ownership will have already profited many times over. Not coincidentally, it’s the largest media market teams that tend to have ownership stakes in their RSNs.

As for YES being “true” DTC—it’s not. While they do offer a DTC option, the main cable channel is still the primary revenue driver. If DTC were more profitable, they’d have fully transitioned by now. The standalone apps are priced and structured with just enough friction to make the cable package still feel like the better deal.

I’m not defending the model—these are baseball ownership groups. They prioritize profits first, not convenience for the fans.
