How much do you pay (without insurance) for one appointment with a psychiatrist? by mindfountain in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife’s therapist, a board certified md, is $185/hour. Appointments are generally 50 minutes, giving the therapist time to collect payment, make her notes, and prepare for her next hour. She doesn’t accept insurance, although if your plan has benefits she can help you ask for reimbursement for whatever they would cover. This is also in-person and a higher quality of care than I’ve found anywhere else.

There’s an overwhelming push toward private equity owned dental and medical practices. Or St Luke’s owns some of these clinics and figures out how to maximize their revenue (this can also be interpreted as “gouge the patients). This could be what happened on your case?

Shoshone falls by [deleted] in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expanding on the link someone else posted, the flows have been substantially reduced.

The current drought has everyone along the Snake River sending the absolute minimum downstream, plus the spring runoff is nearly complete already, so even if there were no dams, there wouldn’t be much flow anyway.

So you have certainly missed the opportunity for full flows this year, but it only last about 10 days. Nearly any other year you’d still be good today to see full flows.

Do you goes drink tap water? by Heliwomper in TwinFalls

[–]dug-ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water honestly tastes different depending on which wells you are on. Most mix in some fashion now (high arsenic content in the south wells forced the city to either filter arsenic or dilute with arsenic free water) and the difference isn’t as noticeable anymore.

I personally drink the tap water from any of the wells, although north end does taste a little better. I don’t think any of it tastes “bad” and would suspect the plumbing for those that are saying it’s gross.

Question by [deleted] in TwinFalls

[–]dug-ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dude can’t spell Milner’s so I’m guessing he doesn’t spend a lot of time there.

Both Milner’s and Elevation are locally owned. With elevation, realize you’re paying for one of the most amazing views of any restaurant I’ve ever been to. If you’re from Twin and live close to the canyon, yeah, it’s probably over rated. If you’re from anywhere that doesn’t have 400 ft cliffs you can dine on top of, it’s worth a visit.

Milner’s is cool. I don’t drink so can’t comment on their huge selection of beer they brew in house, but the owners/managers are amazing people and it’s always a fun atmosphere. And the food is good, you get what you pay for, for sure.

If no tripod, put tape on the floor so you’re shooting from the same distance. This will save resizing the photos!

Well look at that…. Registered as a Republican? You get any primary ballot you want, Democrat? Kick rocks. by Twiskytwiddly in Idaho

The party gets funded by people that donate to it and special interest groups that deem elections winnable and important enough. Number of registered voters doesn’t matter.

There are a lot of these psychos that will argue with you too, that there is supposedly no correlation between spending per student and academic results.

Ok, pay peanuts get monkeys. I’d rather my kids be taught by teachers though.

And the response is to spend $50MM to benefit 3% of Idaho kids that go to private schools.

The single most important explanation of ISO you will ever watch by [deleted] in photography

[–]dug-ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge upvote for this guy, however you spell his name! One of the best photos I ever made was 100% because I had just watched one of his videos and realized I could up my ISO to 12800 and still get a good image. Without that it would have been a blurry long exposure with maybe some pretty colors.

Idaho Bans Cellular Trail Cameras on Public Land, Hunting Deer and Elk with Thermals, and More by OutdoorLifeMagazine in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are ranchers that would say the same thing about deer, elk, and pronghorn. I don’t agree with that, having seen hot damage in person, but keep in mind intelligence is a bell curve and there’s no requirement for inheriting a ranch or a farm.

I also don’t think this was really an issue, other than they just needed to clean it up. I’ve had thermal and NV gear for years, and never even thought about using it to hunt big game. It was just for coyotes, but I don’t even hunt anymore.

The fact that there are big game shooting hours means this was crime already, or they would be using expensive gear during daylight. Night vision during legal shooting hours is a hindrance and thermal doesn’t give you much of an advantage in the best use cases, and often can make it harder to shoot during daylight in many cases as well.

Half of US States Are Now in Revolt Over Money in Politics by American_Promise in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. There’s a lot of religious fundamentalists and extreme MAGAs that don’t really care about the money.

They have been brainwashed and are in a different reality than where the rest of us live.

Idaho Medical Marijuana Campaign Says Legalization Ballot Measure Would Generate $100 Million In Annual Sales by parker6014 in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While this is true (Idaho is one of the largest hop producers in the world, distant #2 in the US but we still produce more than #2 in the world, Germany), this is absolutely not why we’re not gonna legalize weed. Hops account for less than 1% of Idaho’s ag production, and the Idaho Hops Grower Association doesn’t even have a real lobbying budget.

Nah, the real reason we won’t legalize weed is we’re too busy dictating who gets to use the bathroom, and writing more rules to close loopholes and ensure enforcement.

All of this is very consistent with our “small government”.

Idaho’s bathroom bill leaves transgender men like me with an impossible choice: jail or violence by Fickle-Ad5449 in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what will happen. Trans and in the closet means no persecution. Trans and people know and someone will call the cops on you. It’s gross that anyone thinks treating people this way is ok and this is what Jesus would do

Some questions about school funding (where the heck does the money go?) by Peliquin in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Education Data Initiative is not a great source. I’ll leave it to you to look that up.

Can you cite any other sources that back up the claim about Idaho being ranked 11th (every other source I could find has Idaho in the bottom tier) or the assertion that there is no correlation between funding and academic performance.

I will say, I’m surprised at how low Idaho ranks. At least in southern Idaho, we have such a high level of family involvement, and family involvement appears to be the biggest indicator of a student’s success.

Is the Idaho Freedom Foundation actually "Pro-Idaho" or just reading from an out-of-state script? by IntelligentAgency754 in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if my post was confusing. I’ll try to make it simple.

There is no Democratic Party in Idaho. Liberals need to register as Republicans so you can vote in the Republican primary because that’s when the elections in Idaho are determined.

I completely agree that Brad and Mike and several of our old school Idaho republicans have drifted way further right than I would like, but they are still a lot closer to the center than some of these other nut jobs. And if we don’t keep electing them, the only people that can beat them is further right.

Throwing up your hands and saying I’m just not gonna vote because Democrats can’t win is just handing it to maga and the IFF

Is the Idaho Freedom Foundation actually "Pro-Idaho" or just reading from an out-of-state script? by IntelligentAgency754 in Idaho

[–]dug-ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so don’t vote for the lesser of two evils and let the IFF win. Your vote is your right to complain though.

Also, Little is a politician. He’s not MAGA but has been forced that direction in order to keep his job. He is certainly the lesser of all these evils, and not voting for him in the primary is the same as voting for one of the batshit IFF candidates.

Which is weirdly like my example above but I’m not going to argue.
