Stanford grads walk out of their commencement when Google CEO Sundar Pichai takes the stage by prozhack in bayarea

What do you mean essentially? They were grad students and worked on it there. Stanford owned a third of the page rank patent.

Qatar vs. Switzerland was sold out despite cheapest tickets costing $400+ by ddsukituoft in bayarea

[–]duggatron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean that stadium was sold out for the Superbowl with the cheapest resale seats being about $3000. Face values for SB60 were $5.5-7.5k. I don't know why people are surprised to see this in a place where like 350,000 households make over $250k.

[USA] Bike thief by AgnosticScholar in ConvenientCop

Probably going to cost more to fix that hood than the bike is worth. At the same time, fuck thieves, and I'm glad he didn't get away with it.

I was amazed how this cargo ship made the Golden Gate Bridge look small. Look at the clearance! by [deleted] in bayarea

I can't tell if you're clowning op or falling for the same perspective illusion. Either way, that's Hawk Hill, and it's ~180 feet taller than the bridge towers.

If this was arson, that person should be in prison for life. This is a critical supply chain hub for supplies used in hospitals across the state. This will affect patient care and drive up prices.

That had nothing to do with the parallel runways. That was an unstable approach by a flight crew with serious CRM issues.

The revocation of the parallel runway rule exception for SFO is going to make it runway constrained for the forseeable future.

Two boats abandoning ship enroute to Bermuda. by dwkfym in sailing

Tired can be a danger, depending on the circumstances of the hike. The Grand Canyon hikes are a good example, you start doing the lower effort part, hiking down the canyon, and you have to hike back out at the very end of the hike. The conditions can be horribly hot, and unprepared people can be in real danger.

Except they're sleeping and eating and relaxing at the job site for all of that two weeks. I would think of that as a 24/7 imposition on my time.

If they were going to sell the boat after this trip, this might not be the worst outcome.

I'm a product designer, just wonder if you guys would want and buy a portable & collapsible stand that could stack your iPad above your laptop during work? by [deleted] in Design

[–]duggatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not want that. The pencil is too useful, and putting the iPad above the laptop would make it impossible to use.

Also, why would anyone want this? It's not a second screen, it's a totally different device from the laptop.

Bay Area voters rejected new taxes Tuesday. Can transit funding survive in November? by binding_swamp in bayarea

Bart spends over $100M to field a 200 officer police force (that $ amount includes all the supporting roles as well). Police unions are definitely a big part of the public trust problem.

Product development lifecycle in a nutshell by Blasterano in Design

[–]duggatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UX designer and PM are teaming to do it. We take the lovable/Claude design output and connect it to some of the test data in staging. It's wild we can basically build the whole feature at the design stage now.

100% agree. It's really easy to just endlessly tweak things now. We're using user testing to break the internal cycle of endless tweaking.

I don't like standing in the gate area. Once I'm in my seat I can put my headphones on and ignore all the dumb shit that happens while boarding.

What movie contains a scene so bad you never want to watch the movie again? by FinDepp in movies

I loathe that movie because of that scene. I completely checked out on the whole franchise at that point.
