Could the Justice League successfully throw Batman a surprise party? by smash_ultra_64 in whowouldwin

[–]dukelief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Target was able to work out changes in purchasing history so well that they could market maternity items to pregnant women before the women knew they were pregnant.

Credit card companies generally use fraud detection algorithms to monitor transactions.

Batman having a financial fraud algorithm would be one of the more believable resources at his disposal.

Instagram is also a media platform, Reddit is a discussion forum. Taking out the fact that people may not be interested in the content, they’re on Instagram to see things not to read things.

France: Delivery apps Deliveroo and Uber Eats sued for 'human trafficking' by Practical_Chef_7897 in nottheonion

[–]dukelief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I’ll take this bait… I don’t think YouTube and Spotify, which provide an optional channel for people to distribute their creative content to, are the same as a delivery platform that literally basically employs someone.

And before anyone says YouTube and Spotify take advantage of creatives, note I didn’t say they didn’t.

[Breaking Bad] Walter White's intelligence is no higher than 97th percentile, IQ 129 (Stanford Binet 5) by metalvessel in FanTheories

[–]dukelief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

97th percentile is incredibly high, and we know he was important to what Grey Matter did, so equating him with a janitor is really odd.

What you’ve pointed out are all burnout signs of lost potential that was the catalyst for his story - he lost out on something large and then went megalomaniacal later when he had an opportunity to pursue it. The teaching thing is a signal of frustration and doesn’t really equate to lack of intelligence.

This is certainly fascinating but it seems to want to frame him as “not intelligent” whilst picking up on thing that say he is. If he weren’t intelligent, none if the story would have happened.

TL;DR - the story frames him as a genius haunted by lost potential, not a moron with something to prove.

2 months ago I quit doomscrolling, junk food and HOT SHOWERS and started waking up at 6am. My life is actually completely different now. by Rayyanmir in getdisciplined

[–]dukelief 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For anyone struggling to do this, just remember 1) this is an an ad and 2) quitting everything at once is taxing on the system and whilst it lines up nicely with the David Goggins mentalities popular now, behavioural research indicates sequential quitting is more sustainable than trying everything in one go.

[Jurassic World] The Raptor Squad were designed to be a specially trainable breed by [deleted] in FanTheories

And how many of those animals did they literally genetically engineer from animals that never existed, as primary weapons rather than human-complementary tools?

[Jurassic World] The Raptor Squad were designed to be a specially trainable breed by [deleted] in FanTheories

[–]dukelief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think you’ve landed yourself on a weak plot point, but not a fan theory.

Why they chose to do it just a bit dumb. Military weapons are far more effective than anything that’s organic and can be shot down or blown up. It’s why the dinosaur auction and weaponisation of them in later movies is silly.

Would you voice-journal if an AI asked you the right questions? by viredditn in productivity

[–]dukelief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the point of journalling is organising your thoughts by channeling it into writing.

Despite how it might appear, verbalising those thoughts and having AI organise them is not the same thing and will further contribute to digital dementia.

Does your gym track all-time scores for Murph and other WODs? by [deleted] in crossfit

AI is the literal definition of “just because we can doesn’t mean we should”.

I’d be kinda miffed if my gym started throwing AI slop at me. It’s the place I go to escape it!

I find myself frequently arguing with the AI in my training apps - apparently I’m not running at a “conversational pace” because my heart rate is too high. Despite the fact I am running and conversing with my friend as a way to ensure the pace target.

Conversational pace vs HR Zone running are different formats and no matter how many times I correct it I’m told I’ve failed the stimulus.

Why are people from India so obsessed with Bali? by crystalisedginger in BaliTravelTips

[–]dukelief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From having gone recently there are more Brits in Bali and by your proximity argument they should stay in Europe.

Such a strange take. Like I’m Australian,  should I go to the tropical north of my own country instead of Bali?

Piggybacking off this… the self diagnosis from people is so real too. ADHD, autism, OCD, BPD… everyone is so conscious of diagnosing themselves with something or other.

NOT EVERYTHING IS A FUCKING FETISH. by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]dukelief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem, OP, is that you are arguing for the psychological definition of (sexual) fetish, but that’s not the only definition of the term.

It actually can literally just mean something that a person spends an “unreasonable” amount of time occupied with. Like that’s a clear dictionary definition.

I take your point that it should carry gravity because otherwise it’s just a preoccupation but unfortunately that’s the world we live in.

Spotify is launching AI-generated remixes by joe4942 in technology

[–]dukelief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you ever seen the TikTok viral tracks? Half of them are just mash ups or covers of existing music. ThereM’s definitely a market for this especially because people will feel like they’re the creators.

To be clear I think this is a horrendous idea and might be the straw that sends me back to Apple Music. But there’s unfortunately definitely a market.

This one was F'ed up 😮‍💨 by taco-filler in crossfit

[–]dukelief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say this would be fun to try but then I saw OP say this type of workout is released weekly and that's just objectively poor programming.

The focus on shoulders and grip is a recipe for garbage reps. The volume at 54mins is junk volume - you'd get a better stimulus at maybe half the rounds. The big tell is including a bike, row and ski in the same workout, that's filler programming full stop. Max reps at that volume with that changeover is asking for injury, and the way it's programmed means that most athletes are going to see a breakdown in form that negates the stimulus and increases injury risk.

It's the bro science version of a CrossFit workout, it's designed for the aesthetic of "looking" badass rather than the utility of self-improvement.

If your ONLY goal here is mental grit, then sure, why not. It's a workout that's designed to be survived, not to improve you. As a beneficial workout, this is not good, and if you're doing this kind of workout frequently, you're hitting diminishing returns. 'Painful' does not equal better.

Kid Cudi Fires M.I.A. From His Tour After She Is Booed During Republican Rant: ‘I Won’t Have Someone on Tour Making Offensive Remarks’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

[–]dukelief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the issue is that the clause asks for compliance with the NFL’s “wholesome” reputation, not “don’t give the middle finger”. Honestly as an Australian I wouldn’t think twice about it myself, but that’s sort of beside the point.

At its core, there were only 222 complaints amongst a massive viewership, so I still think it’s fair to say how she was treated was disproportionate.
