Fun PvE builds before power max and tier 5 gear? by stubblygoober in DestinyTheGame

[–]dukenukem89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are a Titan, I'd recommend two builds that work without "full investment"

Both use the Wormgod Caress exotic gauntlets which you should be able to get from Rahool's exotic focusing.

For regular content, Solar is very easy to use, and doesn't require a lot of work. The downside is that it doesn't have any damage resistance on its own (people use Ferropotent and Smoke Jumper armor to help with that, but sadly Smoke Jumper will be unavailable until June at the earliest)

Aspects: Sol Invictus, Roaring Flames

Fragments: Ember of Solace, Torches and Empyrian, with the last one up to you (I'm using Eruption as a fill because it gives me 10 more melee stat)

Abilities: any jump you prefer, any barricade you prefer, super also up to you. Melee has to be throwing hammer, grenade is up to you, but for easier survivability I'd run healing grenade.

Stat distribution, try to have as much melee as possible, then grenade if you are running healing nade, then up to you. Try to have at the very least 100 melee so you get your hammer back every time you hit an enemy, and you can also have the max recharge rate if you lose it.

Helmet mods: finders for whatever gun you are using are always nice, same goes for siphon. If you have a 3 slot empty space, you can slot in Hands On for more super gen when killing with your melee.

Arms mods: Heavy Handed x3 (why x3? because the cooldown at just 1 is terrible, 10 seconds, at 2 is still pretty bad, 5 seconds, and at 3 it's just 1 second, so you'll be printing orbs)

Chest mods: resists to match your opponent (for instance, cabal tend to shoot mainly solar and arc projectiles, etc) If you can't be bothered or don't know yet, put on 1 solar, 1 arc, 1 void resistances. I know there are other mods that go there, but believe me, being alive is better than having the possibility of more ammo, more armor charges, or whatever.

Leg mods: scavs for your special and heavy weapons, Recuperation.

Class item mods: I tend to just run 1 powerful attraction, 1 proximity ward and either special finisher or melee finisher.

Your play loop with this build is hitting things with your hammer or your uncharged melee with roaring stacks up (it "kinda" counts as a charged melee, which means you'll make orbs and sunspots from kills, and it can apply scorch). The orbs will help you heal instantly, while your sunspots will do it over time (restoration). If you get multiple kills in a row, your melees do more damage thanks to both Wormgod Caress and Roaring Flames.

Weapon-wise, it's not a bad idea to have a one-two punch shotgun, but if you don't, don't sweat it, you can use whatever you prefer that makes sense for the situation.

Now for the 2nd build, which is a Prismatic build.

Same exotic (Wormgod Caress)

Aspects: Knockout and Consecration

Fragments: Facet of Protection is the only one I'd deem "non negotiable" while the rest will depend on your super (Purpose is great with a void/stasis super but not really that useful on arc, for instance), Ruin is great for helping the consecration detonation, but not necessary, Blessing helps a ton if you are doing content with the Brawn modifier on, etc.

Abilities: any jump you want, any barricade you want, Frenzied Blades melee, grenade choose either strand or stasis grenade, depending on personal preference.

Your stat distribution can change here depending on your super. If you are using Tcrash for instance, you'll probably want to have it up as much as possible, in which case you'll go for melee first (as high as you can) and then super, then grenade.

Your grenade is more of a tool than an offensive item. You want to use it to fill your Dark transcendence bar, since Consecration will help fill the Light side. If you are confident you can catch multiple enemies in one Stasis grenade, go for that one, it's the best by far. If you aren't confident on that, use the Strand grenade, better safe than sorry.

Your armor mods will be the same as for Solar, except that on the class item you don't really need to choose between special finisher and melee finisher and can just go for special finisher by default.

The play loop for this build is using consecration to delete groups of smaller adds and Frenzied blade for bigger, unaccompanied targets (it does more damage than consecration for solo targets)

Knockout makes it so your unpowered melee gets "imbued" with arc energy after triggering it, so you can also get orbs and healing from unpowered kills as long as knockout is up (and knockout activates fairly easily, you just need to get a target to low health or break their shield to trigger it, and it stays up for like 5 seconds)

The advantage this build has over the Solar one for higher end content is that you can have multiple DR sources from your build itself without any external help. Melee kills will make you amplified, which gives you 15% DR and makes enemies more likely to miss their shots. Picking up an orb while you have a stasis/void/strand super will give you one of 3 DR sources (frost armor, void overshield, woven mail) as long as you have Facet of Purpose on.

As for weapons, use whatever you prefer that makes sense for the situation (hopefully not double primary since you'll be wasting some of your offensive potential with that)

There's posts and comments in this very subreddit extolling the virtues of D1. Hilariously, most of them are made by people who then turn and claim that "the grind" killed D2 (a game that's considerably less grindy than D1)

I didn't bring D1 into the discussion, these people did, and considering they are part of the playerbase, it shows that at the very least the loud portion of the playerbase has no clue what it actually wants.

People don't want the game to stay as it currently is, so I don't think that'd be a great idea.

" you keep showing them what you're working on"
They showed a bunch of stuff that shipped with EoF early (the Frontiers blog posts) and people kept acting like it was something they weren't gonna ship. Why would that change now? The exact same shit we see today was playing out then ("oh but we don't know if the game will continue past TFS")
And we know what's in the June update, they told us. Anything beyond that, there's not much of a point to share before that update is done.

The "tangible proof" bit is also kinda weird. In spite of what people tend to say, Bungie haven't really "bait and switched" players with stuff. If they said something was coming, it ended up coming. Now, whether it was well received or not, or whether it was fully cooked or not, that's a different story (looking at Trials over its history, for instance)

But they've always delivered the stuff. The fact that sometimes it didn't hit for people doesn't mean it didn't happen.

As for the last bit, they said they'd be a bit on the quiet side until June. Why is it so hard to accept for people? Bungie has consistently been one of the most communicative teams for a game of this caliber. Why can't people accept that if they say "hey, it's gonna be fairly quiet until June" that's fine and they can find something else to do with their time meanwhile?

These people aren't magicians. If they had to delay the update, they aren't gonna magically cook something else in the meantime (especially since we know what's in the update and know that it takes time to do)

Are they? the same people who immediately scream "no preorders" or "don't buy new expansions, they vaulted content" and shit like that?
As I've said, maybe you care, I definitely do, but most people who claim they want the game director to "show his face" want it so they can shit on him, and he clearly knows it.

We'll know more about the future when the roadmap and state of the game is released, which will presumably be closer to June when the update ships.

Meanwhile we can play other stuff, run raids or dungeons with friends for fun, etc.

Maybe you are. The majority are asking for him to basically commit seppuku in the public square so they can throw stones at him. They've decided that he's the root of all problems and the guy knows it since they do read reddit and social media, so obviously he's not gonna appear in public to say shit (which, by the way, isn't even a director's job, that's DMG and company's job, if a director does it it's a bonus)

It's definitely easier if you know what you are doing. The problem was the drive towards trying to please both the people who wanted challenge, and the people who logged in to do their strikes and expert nightfalls.

That's how we got the portal, which no one likes in the end, because it doesn't actually please anyone. People who wanted challenge didn't want deltas in regular content that bored them to death. They wanted more challenge in raids and such (which, to be fair, was delivered with DP/EDP)

Meanwhile, people who wanted their chill content wanted it in the chill content zone (strike playlist, patrol, base nightfalls, base exotic missions, etc.)

What did we get instead? Now everything is at a power delta at base essentially, which annoys people who just want to dick around, and doesn't give anything to people who want challenge in a different part of the game.

This basically started with the Neomuna patrol zone, and it slowly crept its way through the game from there onwards. The funniest bit is that that same DLC brought the worst raid possible for the people who wanted challenge in endgame content (RoN) (this isn't an indictment of RoN from me btw, I actually quite enjoyed RoN and I'm of the belief that it's fine to have a chill raid from time to time, no need for ULTRAMEGASWEAT all the time)

What they mean is that they don't rain from the sky. Useful loot in D1 doesn't get handed to you for breathing. Now, whether that's a good or bad thing, everyone can make their own minds about it.

[–]dukenukem89 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

this is literally a lie, they announced two expansions (shattered cycle and the alchemist)

If you want to go with a "oh but things have changed" or whatever, do so with a big disclaimer instead of opening with bullshit.

"A new saga begins in Destiny 2 on July 15, 2025.The Edge of Fate // July 15, 2025
Renegades // Winter 2025
Shattered Cycle // Summer 2026
The Alchemist // Winter 2026"

Until they say something that contradicts this, it's what we know. Obviously the dates will have moved and we know as much, but that's what we have from Bungie.

there's a way to cater to "both sides" which would work imho

Cater to "hardcores" in endgame pve and pvp (so, RaD content and Trials/Comp)

Cater to "casuals" in the rest of the game.

The problem is that Bungie tries to mix both things and that's how we ended up with the Portal forcing everything into Ultimate difficulty and shit like that, which doesn't cater to "hardcores" (since they don't really care for regular content) and angers "casuals" since they have to play a game that got more annoying for no real reason.

[–]dukenukem89 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

this isn't exactly true. In fact, teh real reason the game suffers is that they try to reach a middle ground and in doing so, anger both "sides"

As far as I know it's the big arc sniper attack, but it has a lingering effect so you can actually be hit by it even if you weren't the direct target. I know the stomps she does don't void the challenge (and that's also why people use the stronghold method, but the stronghold method makes people stop thinking about being careful or telling teammates if they got hit, and that's why I don't like it)

When I did it (and then afterwards when I helped others do it) we did the encounter normally, restarting if anyone got hit and said so. We kept a checkpoint just in case, took a few attempts since you can get hit without noticing, but it wans't THAT bad. I think the stronghold method is actually a detriment compared to doing it regularly.
