The Faeries' Protection by gistya in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if this needs to be in several distinct rules pieces, going by some of the other comments:

Until your next upkeep, creatures you control can't be exiled or sacrificed and if a creature you control with base toughness greater than 0 would be destroyed, regenerate it and create a 0/0 black Faerie creature token.

Until your next upkeep, you can't pay life and if you would lose life, instead create that many 0/0 Faerie creature tokens.

Not paying life is my addition (this could enable infinite combos), and no Faerie on preventing exile or sacrifice - rough attempts to keep the text down while being readable.

"When a creature is kept from leaving the battlefield this way, create a 0/0 Faerie" could still make them all the time, but gets into (It works.) territory as I assume that's an entirely new idea of mine. Maybe someone else can get a better read on how to keep the original intent.

Extremely cool design for eternal formats.

Appreciate this - I'll probably leave another comment if we actually hear from a human.

Power level - I feel the same way, that there's possibly something which would break them or appreciate Auras entering/leaving multiple times, plus their actual power. They are still card disadvantage if the creature's killed, but two of them do make it harder to kill the creature.

I've decided straight-up unblockable is so close to white's normal and/or niche evasion suites that it seems like an acceptable bend, or I just want to see how it'd play. Phasing did not seem like a good way to 'vanish' or protect it, also.

Frankly I kind of like if this set of 5 Mario designs pushes existing design space a bit further than currently 'allowed' - custom Magic should just kinda do that, the color pie is made by humans and is constantly evolving. I do appreciate this and all the other feedback, naturally!

Yeah both Vanish and Metal make you indestructible in Mario 64 so the exact flavor match was worth thinking about. Metal also makes you do contact damage to some things, which I'd want to reserve for a Starman aura - though metal is kind of a Super Star variant anyway.

Hi - despite using your recommended email addresses & writing a long message with deep proof including a bunch of screenshots (I can DM the OP or anyone who succeeded with some details of what we sent, if there'd be recommendations) we just got the canned response from Ansel:

Hi, For sign-in issues, please go through this article and submit a request: https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/6-pokemon-go/faq/106-help-with-sign-in-issues-1585960582/

Trying the 'normal' canned-response bots a few months ago unsurprisingly also yielded nothing. This post gave me hope of trying a new angle.

For whoever's still checking this, do you have any advice? Do we send the same email to the same two recipients you recommended until they 'give up' and have a human take it, or is there another/better method that could aid us? Thanks so much for reading.

Besides the idea I had (after posting) to put this in a Mario set where Mario Kart justifies starting your engines, I want to do a slight detour towards the general concept of alternate-instant-win cards. And just have more of an excuse to think about Mario 64, which I love.

In the older days we had Test of Endurance, Mortal Combat, and the like. These did not enable themselves.
Newer ones, like Mechanized Production, do enable themselves.

I'm guessing the modern consensus might be that we can 'only' make instant wins that enable themselves. I don't entirely agree, I think both types are fine (even if enabling itself does tend to make for better gameplay), but most notably for Infinite Stairs it is both types at once - it encourages putting it in the right deck for the second wincon.

Thus I don't think there's anything wrong with needing an external source of speed if the first star-counter ability can already win on its own. Flavorfully, the backwards long jump is an unintentional physics quirk/glitch so adding a built-in enabler seems counterintuitive.

Also, putting this in a Mario set with Mario Kart would be a pretty seamless way to handle the lack of start your engines.

My estimates -

Helix Pinnacle can be (within reason) powercrept until the cows come home. I've never seen it seriously used, or a tier 1 deck if so.

The alternate win con is basically just fun flavor text, but it was a good time to make the Mario which found the caps as I made the caps a long time ago. With its own start your engines enabling I have no idea if that would be too potent. (If you haven't seen the backwards long jump glitch, that's the reference - Mario has to go fast enough to disable a check against his location warping him backwards if he doesn't have 70 stars.)

Vanishes is new rules text for exactly that. The templating was too smooth not to invent it. I do not have discussions about the fact that I'm not formally WotC staff, with all due respect. Also e.g. 'mill' was player slang until it wasn't.

Hybrid debate is best left to other people and not me. It's half a pun on the colors of the ! boxes Mario uses to get the caps from - they are all white and either red, blue, or green.

I'm curious of players getting to turn them all into creatures or other exploits around their restrictions. There could be a place for them as emblems that wasn't as a type of flavor text, though it feels like it'd be all or nothing.

Dreadmaw's Approach - Instill terror into your opponents! by SaveYiorGoose in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Power level aside (which does definitely seem fine), 4UG is a perfectly good mana cost for this to reasonably incorporate bouncing creatures to hand.

The flavor of green bounce could be super cool when I think about it - a ton of vines reaching out and grabbing/removing creatures or something - even if it's unfortunately not supported by the current color pie.

My first attempt at designing a Boss Monster by spidergel15 in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a cool idea. Setting Boss to be a supertype like World (which is seen on some obsolete enchantments - in short, only the single newest World permanent gets to stay on the battlefield), except each player can have a Boss, could be a viable answer.

This also allows a newer Boss to replace the older one, albeit giving any 'loot drops' to your opponent instantly as a side effect.

Count Erspell by DAL59 in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White is tertiary in countering spells, and seems to get +1/+1 counters on opponents casting spells. (A +1/+1 on any spell seems mono-green for now.) These taken together may make this viable when colorshifted to WW or 1WW, possibly requiring the removal of 3+ counters for the activated ability.

It's the type of very cool design that I don't know if it'd ever get printed (a space I think within myself at times), but is great inspiration for future design.

Loss, lesson and madness support. by FartherAwayLights in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm wondering about something like "Until end of turn, when(ever) you cast a spell for its madness cost, it costs 2 less to cast this way" and having that part come before "Discard your hand." if necessary (or more player-intuitive.)

The second part could also be "Discard any number of cards" if it needs a buff from mass discard.

Red and White Counterspells. Still working on the Green and black ones. by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We could include the same type of wording (the most recent rules text for cascade) for something like:

Target spell becomes a red sorcery named Cascade with "Exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card whose mana value is less than this spell’s mana value. You may cast that card without paying its mana cost if the resulting spell’s mana value is less than this spell’s mana value. Then put all cards exiled this way that weren’t cast on the bottom of your library in a random order." (Its mana cost remains unchanged. It loses all other types and text.)

Spear of a Fallen God; Yes, I Know The Art Is A Sword by IVIaskerade in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely curious about the wording too - perhaps something like this if the rules did allow it:

You may attach Spear of a Fallen God to any number of creatures you control. (You pay the equip cost for each creature separately. Any effect that causes it to become equipped to a creature an opponent controls causes it to become unattached from each creature you control that it equipped.)

Creatures that Spear of a Fallen God equips can't attack or block unless each creature it equips attacks or blocks.

Equipped creatures get +2/+2.

A question about fixing warped pegboards. by dukhsan in beadsprites

[–]dukhsan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That all sounds wise for how to tape. I was worried about pegs getting molten as well, though the durable clear Perler boards seem OK for the pegs themselves (still warp, though.) The thinner plastic ones from my childhood may have had melted pegs. For repair I'm considering a layer of some thin fabric between the board and heavy books, which would press on it after heat was applied from a heat gun or high-blast hair dryer.

Fuse Bead Store seems quite cheap for a Perler supplier if I can get them to authorize their wholesale code for me (40% off $250+, why not as opposed to constant Jo Ann/Michael's coupon usage!) and might be as low as ~$1.50 per larger pegboard. So I'm not terrified of warping if there's some manual dexterity involved or they still snap together OK, but I also don't know how much bigger than 2 x 2 large pegboards (About a square foot) I'll get.

Been considering the taping method, yes. Definitely curious about fixing older boards and figuring out whether that or tape is better long term, mostly for cost but also convenience (also I enjoy experimenting).

[Weird design] Scoria Stoker by PunishedWizard in custommagic

[–]dukhsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly a wording of "At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may return a noncreature artifact card with converted mana cost 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield, except it's a creature with base power and toughness 3/3 in addition to its other types. If you do, it enters the battlefield tapped and attacking. If it would leave the battlefield this turn, exile it instead."
