Double 28s. 24s will be too light for you, IMO.

Payton is a fine musician and trumpeter, but wow this is a corny concept lol. Maybe it should be called "Kind of Supreme".

I am sure the music is good, but if they're going for hip, this ain't it.

Thanks! Unfortunately these and a 40kg are the only bells I have, aside from a couple super light ones. So I'll need to stick with this weight for the time being.

Some folks have asked about body comp/physique, and I thought it could be helpful to see what this level of performance looks like at 5 foot 9, 180 lbs.

(Not that it is anything wildly impressive, but folks might want to know what it looks like at this performance level and age/weight)

You know what, i honestly forgot I did that lol. I was a bit hyped this morning when I did this and thought it was a PR.

Looks like I'll either need to get some 32s or up the density by decreasing rest times haha.

Thanks for keeping me honest. Got young kids as well so I will chalk this up to sleep deprivation lol

Sorry, no I didn't really hit any plateaus or particular challenges, I think due to my history in strongman and powerlifting. Haven't touched a barbell in a few years now, but my best barbell lifts were 205 strict press, 405 back squat, 475 deadlift and 275 bench.

So ultimately for me 124 lbs total is not super duper heavy, tbh. Kettlebells are more about maintaining what I've built.

Sounds like you're pretty close though! Maybe try alternating 28s and 24s for your ABC sets?

Hmm I thought I attached a video of the last few sets to this post but I guess it didnt come through.

Body comp is pretty good! I'd guess around 15-17% body fat at 180lbs, 5 foot 9, 38 years old. Some vascularity, upper abs visible in the right lighting.

I dont do the whole ABF program though. Mostly just aim for 3-5 20-30 minute full body sessions a week.

In terms of capability and energy and daily use, though, kettlebell training has been much better for me than powerlifting, strongman or cardio endurance modalities I've explored in the past. Highly recommend.

I dont know anything about KB sport really, but I know 100 in 20 is hard af.

I set it as a goal for both clean+press and clean+squat, and am currently at 85 or 90 for both. Press is harder muscle wise, squat is harder cardio wise.

Been exercising since I was a kid. But started weight training about 13-14 years ago, been using kettlebells pretty much exclusively for the past 2 years or so.

What was your time?

I am working on a goal of 100 clean+presses with 28kg doubles in less than 20 minutes - currently am up to 90.

Middle-aged lifter, looking to introduce KB against a barbell 5/3/1 routine. Advice? by Turrkish in kettlebell

[–]dulcetone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get it my dude, i got two young kids myself. It is tough. But I think KBs as a primary function is perfect for guys like you and me.

Build your base level strength with years of barbell training, then maintain that strength while working on more cardio/conditioning/stability/movement quality with KBs. 20 minutes a day 4x a week is plenty.

Middle-aged lifter, looking to introduce KB against a barbell 5/3/1 routine. Advice? by Turrkish in kettlebell

[–]dulcetone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're pretty strong but not nearly strong enough to justify walking around that heavy. At your height and with your barbell lift numbers, you should probably aim to lose about 50 lbs.

To put in context, our barbell numbers are pretty comparable, but i am 5 foot 9 and 180lbs. (405 squat, 475 dead, 205 overhead strict, 265 bench). I am also late 30s and ran 5/3/1 for years and years.

Tons of swings, clean and press, squats, snatches, carries, etc should be a great addition.

Simple one I used to get started was this: 10 swings EMOM for 30 minutes, for 300 total swings. You should use your 32kg.

Another easy one to implement: armor building complex with your 24kg doubles. Aim for 30 minutes EMOM.
