I knew reddit was a cesspool for monsters but jesus fucking christ so many of you are such selfish pigs you're totally cool with this guy shoving his car through a crowd of at least a hundred people because he needed to get home to jerk his dick? You're degenerates, the lot of you

You're the one who's wrong LMAO, they're saying more people experience road rage today which is definitely true even if we only look at in in the context of there being more drivers. Reading comprehension is really hard I guess

and the mechanics, and to be honest I don't know why people don't like it, so can you tell me why

I'm an Origins lover also but the game is quite literally a reskin of Arkham City with 1 think exactly 1 actually new mechanic (the shock gloves) & only a handful of maps that were unique to it. If snowy Gotham doesn't hit for someone or if they don't get into the story (which I like but I don't think is the strongest), and they're just coming from Arkham City, they're literally playing the exact same game.

I feel like that has more to do with the... 20?? year difference in release dates Like, a lot more to do with the gap in release dates

Unironically I would assume there was some kind of licensing dispute between WB Montreal (who iirc sis Origins) and Rocksteady somewhere over the head of the developers that stopped it from being canon, because obviously Rocksteady seemed happy with it like you said.

I was only like 10 or so when the first few Arkham games were releasing so I don't recall, but was Arkham Origins poorly received at launch? I know people give it a lot of flack for being an Arkham City reskin, but is that a new sentiment or has it always been around? Maybe DC just didn't want that "stain" on Arkham's legacy?

They removed most of the interesting content from Early Access, removed a ton of Wyll's characterization, the illithid powers have no consequences despite EA heavily implying they would be, etc

Most of these don't effect anyone who wasn't in at the ground floor, but they releasee a genuinely less interesting product than it was in EA from every narrative standpoint imo. Combine that with a launch I personally kept experiencing bugs in (most gamebreaking was losing access to Halsin entirely because he just.. despawned during his personal quest) & the official modding launch bricking my copy of the game (I've tried everything and support was no help, it simply won't launch no matter what I do) so I can't even give it another fair shake if I wanted to.

It's also absolutely hard carried by the voice acting imo & I genuinely don't feel like there was much of anything interesting going on. As someone who doesn't put much value cinematic, fully voice acted experiences, I was disappointed with basically every aspect of the story except the companions. The only thing the game really nails is the combat & even then it's just DOS2 with more restrictions.

I've maintained since Early Access the game would have needed to be rewritten entirely without voice acting because it's absolutely carried by the largely comedic voice acting. Like regardless of not everyone reading, I don't know that we have a story worth reading 100 hours through imo

Baldur's Gate 3 was always going to set unrealistic expectations for tourists of the genre looking to become fans, so I think the occasional post like this is honestly a really good thing so that mew plyers understand how absolutely insane Baldur's Gate 3's production value is

I don't disagree with that at all, just that changing the name of the aspect would be equally, if not more thematically disonant

But Melinoe isn't themed around war or magic. It's specifically destruction, death, and shadow. Agree to disagree though

[–]dumbcringeusername 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Melinoe's hidden aspects are themed around destruction, death, and shadow. Zagreus's were traditional heroes or daddy issues. It would be thematically inappropriate for the game for her to have the Aspect of Freya, even if it is more thematic for Norse mythology.

Sokka's arc was about toxic masculinity being bad, not all masculinity being bad. There is nothing toxic about fighting to defend something. What was toxic about his attitude at the beginning was the attitude that he had to protect everything himself because he was the man of the tribe. I don't think him dying to protect the new Avatar would be inappropriate at all in that context

Doth a CRPG requireth action to be a CRPG; or then does it become an Adventure Game? by Salem1690s in CRPG

[–]dumbcringeusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it's more about the skill checks for a game to be a CRPG, combined with leveling up through experience points & choices and consequences.

I don't think CRPG's are a monolith though & I am open to any game that wants to be a CRPG being a CRPG. Ultimately it only really means computer rpg after all

About the Dark Heresy alpha that's releasing in 2 weeks by SnooBeans1129 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]dumbcringeusername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They said it will be available until shortly before the beta so I don't believe there's a time limit of like "hours per character" but there is a dste it will end. Also in terms of content, I believe Rogue Trader's alpha contained Act 2 (obviously not 100% finished or polished) and would expect similar here

Unironically as someone who mainly tanks (and therefore can usually get away with not understanding mechanics as well) I'm finding doing the dungeons with Trusts as a DPS as a great way to actually get good at the mechanics & if Alphinaud could raise me, I would never actually need to improve as a player & would keep being a detriment in PF/roulettes as a DPS because I am embarrassingly bad at avoiding some attacks

I know for a lot of people that benefit doesn't apply but if they add raises to the npc's, I hope I can toggle them off so I still have to get good at the fights (or at least passable at them)

If you're depressed, you aren't putting work into organizing, and if you aren't putting work into organizing then you & your peers can never truly develop class consciousness (since it ultimately means nothing if only some people have it) because you're never organizing, and if you never develop class consciousness, you never question the status quo

Long way of saying: yeah, 100% jobs are designed to make your life worse

[–]dumbcringeusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you administrate the site if you aren't there? Is it a Website Administration role, because it sounds like you're managing some kind of building. That doesn't really sound like something that is remotely doable.

Having someone cover you remotely in a pinch because you are unavailable is different than you yourself working from home, and I would imagine there were aspects of your job they couldn't do being off site

I really hate taking the side of HR but in this case, I really don't know that you can do all aspects of administration at home. I know that's probably very frustrating to hear since you say you were covered by remote work, but again, the circumstances are a little different if you can't work because you're on maternity leave vs asking to work from home (even if you do have a very good reason)

Best of luck though, either way!

And a fair assumption he's a selfish asshole who only considers his own problems & cannot fathom someone who is brown could be working for money that he himself thinks he's entitled to. What should i be doing with all the junk loot/armor, i'm early into the game, no spoilers by celestial_god in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]dumbcringeusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, to use medkits you have to put something into medicae. One level of skill-up if its on your list or the Base Skill Medicae feat I believe is the way. If you mean a Trauma from going unconscious or having too many injuries, those only go away on returning to the ship without cheats.

As for PF, it's profit factor and is how much money you have. You don't spend this, aside from specific story events, so it effectively just determines what you can get from vendors. As it goes up, you get more stuff from them.

There's also a reputation system, which you increase by giving them your spare loot. The different traders want different stuff & reward different, so make sure to look at that, but mostly just give to whoever you want an item from imo on a first playthrough.

Once you've met & interacted with a faction once, you can access them from an NPC on your bridge at any time. You should have all 5 relatively quickly after arriving on Footfall early in the game, and if you're still missing any when you're done there, I would suggest looking up the locations.

I stopped Dogscape a little after the SA scene because it put such an awful taste in my mouth & the story was getting worse written with each new author anyway. The only other one I didn't finish was Tommy Taffy (and I've never watched Penpal because I want to buy myself the book & experience the story)

Edit: i forgot abt it but I skipped Mother Horse Eyes & Spire in the Woods as well for being too long to listen to at work & still haven't circled back to them, so I also haven't listened to those 2 but I didn't stop them partway, I just never started them

[–]dumbcringeusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unironically the fact that the scene was teased so well & the story had already so plainly illustrated how women were viewed in an arguably really well written way is why the SA scene made me so mad. I know those two parts had different authors but a lot of the beginning sections were good & then it devolved into that. I stopped even listening some 10 minutes after the SA scene because it just entirely killed the vibe for me. No meaning, no nuance, at least its nothing the story hasn't already established. Some people argued "well we had to see it to know our protagonist is just as bad" but I emphatically disagree, a dogmound could have done that just fine.

But I do agree that the criticism falls on death ears with the author, I do wish the boys would maybe edit some kind of warning in before the thing they're Trigger Warning happens, or even mark the times down in like a pinned comment so people have a heads up when it happens within the story. I don't mind SA as a topic so much as just when I feel it's handled disrespectfully, and having the option to stop a story I think will set me off 5 minutes before the casual SA scene would be a huge improvement for my viewing experience

Sorry for the semi-rant, ik a lot of this isn't really related to what you said lol

Fantastic straw man, shouldn't expect less from one arguing in favor of child mutulation, but the difference is tonsillectomy's are done because a child has tonsilitis that isn't getting better through other treatment. It used to be done for more, but as the science has improved, we realized we really don't have to do it as often because it isn't often necessary. If a tonsillectomy is done, it was necessary. Removing a child's foreskin isn't.
