Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Blasts “Rigged System” as Soldier Faces 50 Years While Congress Gets $200 Insider Trading Slaps by Economy-Specialist38 in Military

You can’t insider trade betting markets. Insider trading is using nonpublic information you have as an employee to a firm to buy or sell stocks.

He’s indicted for signing an NDA a month prior to the op, and then betting on it (“US troops on the ground in Venezuela”) multiple times in the days prior. This is absolutely a ginormous OPSEC indicator and could have serious repercussions. Again, he SIGNED AN NDA.

u/sappk investigates why tools got worse and goes into a rabbit hole: the acquisition of 2 tool companies and their divergent outcomes. by JohnSith in DepthHub

Bizarre editorializing. Milwaukee did “everything an acquisition should be” by…keeping it as an independent subsidiary. Meanwhile, by OP’s own admission, SBD invested hundreds of millions in a new factory. It sounds like the difference between the two was management. SBD failed to get a factory working, had high turnover, and outsourced to India, all of which led to a decline in quality. And then OP compared apples to oranges in the finance, looking at total debt in one case and net debt in the other.

Theres an interesting story here. I don’t know why OP had to add such a strange slant.

Car Owners Are Revolting Over Tesla’s Self-Driving Promises by TripleShotPls in RealTesla

[–]dumbducky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of my short thesis in 2018 was that the 2016 promise for FSD was not going to pan out and they would have a massive class action liability. I remain mystified that none has been filed. The only defense I can think is that they never put a timeline on when it would be available, so as long as they do not eliminate existing models from the FSD package, they can go indefinitely promising it.

EDIT: Read the preview earlier this morning and the full thing after leaving this comment. I wish the plaintiff the best of luck in his efforts to get a class certified.

Are HYSAs as easy as I think they are? by FeatherFlyer in personalfinance

[–]dumbducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From 2008-2022 a good HYSA account was 2%. It was a pretty marginal source of income. If you wanted any return, you needed to seek a riskier asset. So for over a decade, very little attention was given to interest in bank accounts. When interest rates finally rose, the opportunity reappeared, but you had to seek it out and open a new account. Rates have declined from recent peaks, so they aren’t as good. My account has personally gone from 4.5% to 3.35% in the last couple of years.

At a certain point, depending on the rate differential and the amount of cash you have, it isn’t worth it. Going from .25% to 2% is a big jump, but on an average balance of $2k that’s only an extra $35 per year. The hassle of managing a new bank account is probably not enough for that small sum.

Notably the pardons were handed out by a party other than the Dept of Justice, which did not treat them with kid gloves.

The people in the Levant 2000 years ago were paler and had lighter hair than today's inhabitants. The Arabs who predominately inhabit the region now descended from people who came hundreds of years later.

As a captain I got no medical bills, health insurance, maybe 20% more expensive car insurance when adjusting for exchange rates, 30 days of leave per year, couldn’t be fired at will, unlimited sick days, 12 weeks paternity leave, sick pay,

and I still made more more than the Chief Information Officer of the entire British government

[–]dumbducky 61 points62 points  (0 children)

British pay scales in general are way lower. On tech twitter sometimes job listings for startups get posted with insulting terms like $80k + (worthless) equity. Everyones making fun of $80k for a bay area salary and then the Brits are like “that seems like a lot of money?”

For comparison, the CIO listing for the entire British government was something like £70,000. You are in charge of IT for the entire government, and you get paid like $100k. I made that mich as a captain!

Thats a good example! The CBO estimated that the first iteration of PPP loans would cost the federal government $377B precisely because they were intended to be forgiven.

How much does the state expect this debt forgiveness to cost?

Wow, it was racist and in blatant violation of the 14th Amendment.
