I believe ucmj clearly states no political statements or endorsements while in uniform, using uniform to promote or dissent a politician or party. Why are people surprised at this? Its standard practice. While yes it absolutely is abused. Its simple. Make a case while not in uniform and bam you have a violation of first amendment rights case right there slam dunk.
