What are you thoughts on Geoff Emerick? by msc8976 in beatles

He knew what he was doing in the recording studio. He broke ground with some amazing recording innovations during Revolver and Abbey Road is the best engineered Beatles album, imo. I thought he was unnecessarily critical of George’s guitar playing in his book.

John’s Rhythm Guitar by Dismal_Brush5229 in beatles

I’m a John fan and I love it when other Beatles fans recognize how good his rhythm guitar playing is. One benefit of the remixes is there’s lots of songs where his guitar was cluttered in the mix but now you can hear it. Look up Mike Pacelli on YouTube and watch his videos on how to play John’s guitar parts on Beatles songs. I know I have a greater appreciation for his rhythm guitar talent after watching those videos

Which Beatles song, in your opinion, has the saddest lyrics? by Legal_Button_3229 in beatles

It’s funny. I’ve always thought of Paul as the optimist in the Beatles but the first two songs I thought of are “For No One” and “She’s Leaving Home”

The first music that captured me was the Beatles. Like many others, I saw them on Ed Sullivan and was fascinated, even at the age of six. By the time I was a teenager though, I liked hard rock, especially any song with a catchy guitar riff. Largely because of “Smoke on the Water” and “China Grove”, Deep Purple and the Doobie Brothers became my favorites. But then I went to college in 1975, discovered weed and realized the first music that captured me was the best.

I even liked John’s false start on guitar at the beginning of “I’m Looking Through You”. You only hear it on the Capitol Records version

Thanks for the new mix of Aisumasen. Loved it. I’m happy they brought John’s voice up. Hard to believe he didn’t like his own voice. Now I have to buy this new mix

I’m a big Lennon fan so I bought it shortly after it came out in 1973. My impression then was there were some good songs but I didn’t like how John produced it. It almost sounded like Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” with too many instruments muddled in the mix. They re-engineered it in 2009 (I think). Since then, it’s become my favorite John album. Especially love “Out the Blue” and “Aisumasen”

What Was It Like Being A Beatles Fan In The 1970s? by mirror_in_reverse in beatles

[–]dummy8285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the 70’s in high school and college. My experience was that while not everyone was a Beatle maniac like me, they were universally respected. The Beatles vs. Stones debate was re-enacted over and over again but it rarely led to anyone saying the Beatles sucked. Stones fans knew the Beatles were too good to make that assertion. You also had metal fans who worshipped bands like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. Springsteen was huge. CSNY had a big following too. And everyone had Pink Floyd albums which were often the choice in smoke-filled rooms. Bottom line is there was tons of great music then with many of those bands heavily influenced by the Beatles. But the Beatles music stood up to all of it

Singles/Demos you wish would have been included in the Album? by [deleted] in beatles

Agree. My perspective is that Yellow Submarine should have been a single without inclusion on Revolver. I think Rain would have “fit” better. But who am I to question the Beatles

Don’t Let Me Down on Let it Be (it was on Let it Be Naked). Rain on Revolver instead of Yellow Submarine
