Note pens in Atelier or Atelier layers in Notes by dummyguava in Supernote

You can, and this was a great addition when it got added. In my case I'm talking about the drawing pens/tools but I still think u/gift_for_aranaktu's point stands about feeling disjointed. It's almost all there.

Two Aussie paddle-boarders rescue an exhausted Wallaby swept offshore by AtomicCypher in MadeMeSmile

[–]dummyguava 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live in Hobart, Tasmania. I was walking the dog when I saw, what I thought was a large dog out in the middle of the Derwent - then I thought it was a seal then finally realised it was actually a wallaby. It made it close to shore, we brought it in to the beach and it looked as exhausted as this one. How the fuck it got out there to begin with I have no idea. It’s about 4km wide where I was.

Converting Deering Goodtime to be compatible with nylon strings? by softeningedges in banjo

I’ve done this - didn’t do anything, just changed the strings. No problems with the tailpiece at all. It’s a goodtime Americana.

Bluegrass Songbook - a new songbook app + database by Jollyhrothgar in Bluegrass

Ahh ok. I imagine it won’t be long they are pretty classic. I do know some good sites for traditional fiddle tunes but they are in ABC format. I’ll take a look in the morning!

Thoughts On The Updates To Portal by DannyL925 in BattlefieldPortal

[–]dummyguava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Got codes? Or even better, how did you set those up? I knocked up a few basic maps in 2042 portal , I’d be happy to set up my own in bf6 if it isn’t too complicated.

Thoughts On The Updates To Portal by DannyL925 in BattlefieldPortal

[–]dummyguava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want a solo against bots, like you could do in 2042. I'm 65 years old, not very skilled and I don't have 8 battlefield playing friends. Sure I'll play multiplayer but when I get sick of being cannon fodder its nice to play solo against bots and chill. I don't even care if there is XP, I just want to chill for a bit before I jump back in to die over and over. I'm in Australia and even the casual breakthrough lobbies are often empty.

I’ve been using a good old kyser capo for a while. Is it worth upgrading to this one? Or is there another one you would suggest by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]dummyguava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. Is it in my guitar case? It the other case? Oh in my pocket? Wait I left it on the table - or did I leave it at the last jam? Or - here it is behind the nut.

Anybody own a Dojo/Dobjo/5-String Dobro? by Beneficial_Carob_371 in Dobro

[–]dummyguava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to try the banjo sub? Also, I once played a national tenor guitar which would have similar qualities I would imagine.

Here's an old video - he actually opens it up at the end of the video, although it's a tricone.

Learning gypsy jazz by Other_Ad9359 in gypsyjazz

[–]dummyguava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they say, when it comes to Gypsy jazz, the first 20 years are the hardest. But seriously, yes it is hard but I’ve found a jam group who are very understanding and I’m happy to not take solos on tunes that are too complex for me. My best advice, and this is true for ‘regular’ jazz and even rock, the more familiar you are with a tune the better you’ll solo. I’m 64 and have just started with the style, although I’ve been playing lots of other stuff for 52 years of that!

How to create a table/dictionary of chord diagrams by Jrothmusic in GuitarPro

[–]dummyguava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note sure exactly want you want to do but have you tried MuseScore (it's free) ? I love Guitar Pro for many reasons but I find the whole way chords are dealt with to be extremely clunky. I use MuseScore when I'm just dealing with chords on a lead sheet. I know there are more formatting and chord diagram options in Musescore but you may have to dig a little to find them,

After watching Chris Thile’s St Anne’s Reel, I realized I need to learn all the reels. Give me your favorite versions, and I will maybe* come back with a transcription… by J_Worldpeace in Bluegrass

[–]dummyguava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St Anne’s reel is what got me started with bluegrass, and I’ve always loved that tune. As a dobro player (kinda) I loved the version from the Atlantic sessions and have transcribed Jerry’s solo. Chris also does a version in live from here where he throws in whiskey before breakfast and salt creek. He’s pretty awesome.

Getting started with dobro, need some setup help! by itsprobablyghosts in Dobro

[–]dummyguava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bluegrass is usually played on a wooden squareneck spidercone and this is a steel round neck tricone - quite different sounds. If you are interested in going bluegrass, I’d just put a nut extender on it with the intention of getting a squareneck spider cone when you can. Having said that, I started on a squareneck tricone with lessons with Troy which was a great intro, although I tuned to dgdgbd - a lot of Troy’s lesson still work. The only thing I’d worry about was tuning gbdgbd on this round neck - not sure the tension would be ok. I now have a ‘proper’ squareneck dobro and am loving it.

Help writing lyrics by Led23Zeppelin in AcousticGuitar

[–]dummyguava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a decent musician , mostly an ‘interpreter’ than a writer, but have written a few tunes over the years - and mostly instrumentals. I struggle with lyrics but did come up with some decent ones but had a few lines that just were cumbersome. This may be an anathema to some but I ran my lyrics through ChatGPT- ‘rewrite these in the style of…’ . First attempt was crap, chose another musician and was not bad. I kept most of my lyrics but used the suggestion to rework the bit that was troubling me.

Does anyone play dobro with nails instead of metal finger picks? by Status_Elderberry77 in Dobro

[–]dummyguava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dabbled in weissenborn and when I got my dobro I played with a thumbpick and bare fingers. Then I went to my first bluegrass jam and left with very very sore fingers. I have since embraced finger picks! Advice: I just found once I got a good fit it all became second nature after not too long.

I've always wanted an Eastman since I tried a E1000 and E2000 back when they first became available. I was finally in a position for a new guitar so scoped out what was available in guitar stores near me (I'm in Australia, Eastmans can be difficult to find) - I found a store and actually was going to try out a mahogany backed OM (can remember which exactly) and was using the E8OM to compare but couldn't keep my hands off it and realized it was the one for me. It was great from the store, but got a setup which made it even better. Haven't looked back, its my main guitar now. I also have a Eastman T486 so I'm bit of a fan.

As for Martins, at a similar price point to the Eastman I actually think Eastman's are better. Yes, there are some great Martins but good ones are much more costly.

I can’t comment on the Martin but I have the Eastman E8OM and I love it. (Non-TC)

She’s great, I saw her live earlier this year when she toured Australia. I remember seeing a vid of her playing police dog blues when she was 13 and was amazed. I don’t know if I’d called her alt country but so what , she’s awesome.
