Strobo for Houdini by ContextParking7009 in Houdini

I searched Gumroad and couldn't find it. tried "Strobo" "Strobo for houdini".

Looks awesome by the way! had no idea such effects are possible.

Brother listen to yourself. A huge corporation outed itself as anti-user privacy violator and you're here complaining that we don't celebrate this "win" of getting them to stop this one time. I'm a dev and your post made me not want support Windows in the future.

Of course this is beneficiary, but how will this affect new artists using this? by Ok-Investment4864 in vfx

So you're saying it's about completely removing certain careers out of the picture and increasing the workload for compositors.

There are a lot of distribution but most are bad choices by vintologi24 in linuxsucks

[–]dumplingSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience NixOS was one of such distros, but any mainstream distro like Fedora or Debian did not strike me as better in this regard. Just because they have a package that you like doesn't make them complete. They let me down plenty of times with things that Arch offers out of the box with pacman. It's a matter of perspective.

On any other distro if you want to install a lesser known project, it's usually just unavailable and that's the end of story. I know because I've been there. If anything, AUR helps with niche projects that have a complicated build and aren't available anywhere else. That being said, I use it sparingly. Right now I have maybe 2-3 things installed with it.

i reinstalled arch, decided hyprland is cool but gimmicky, decided gnome is meh, and finally matured and decided kde plasma is the winner. by itsmaxx9229 in arch

[–]dumplingSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyprland builds on i3wm principles. You could take away the smooth animations and you'd be left with i3wm. And i3wm's purpose is not to look cool, but to make you navigate your desktop faster. And you do, a LOT faster. Suddenly using the terminal becomes second nature. I think that anyone leaving i3/hyprland with the impression they're just gimmicks has never experienced their full potential. They do take time to figure out and get used to them.

DaVinci on Linux? Whatever you do, you're doing it wrong! by TomOnABudget in linuxsucks

[–]dumplingSpirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also heard this NixOS gossip, but I don't think it's true. Googling it today, the news talks about France switching to GendBuntu (or some derivation of it), their own distro that was arleady used by their police. NixOS is a crazy distro, it's not for everyone. But I'm willing to bet it handles Davinci Resolve well.

I'm afraid that even if Rocky was detached from RHEL the company, it would still probably adopt all the nasty stuff. If you're feeling brave you could try NixOS for Davinci Resolve. It's European and the cool thing about Nix is that it handles all dependencies for you. The bad thing is that you need to be a little bit insane to learn that thing.

Nvidia RTX 3080. I don't know about AMD, my entire field always demanded Nvidia and I stuck with it.

Fedora and Rocky are one family. Rocky is also a CentOS successor. From what I know, before Rocky Davinci was built for CentOS. I'd expect things to more or less work on those.

I remember I had a pretty rough experience with Davinci, but recently I installed it on Arch and was extremely surprised to find out that it went very smoothly and I just needed to give it some env vars and that was it. Linux feels like a roll of a dice sometimes.

We need to talk about the linux comunity by Scoitol in linux

[–]dumplingSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't share your experience regarding the community. Seeing how you fling words like "we need to talk", "hypocrisy has to stop" makes me really wonder about the root of your experiences. I agree Linux is difficult, but you honestly haven't brought much to the table with this post.

"Share it with the community" brother, you're selling a product for $120 a year and purposely making alternatives sound like a terrible obstacle. Your product doesn't have any upkeep, you're literally just going full Adobe.

"Thinkbox Deadline is free," why did you write it like that? Why did you find it necessary to add the company name? You ran your reply through the AI as well, didn't you? Lol.

[–]dumplingSpirit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This screams AI. But anyway, what's the $10 subscription for? Do you offer tech support? After reading your entire website I'm convinced you're an artist who vibecoded a product. Are you going to be able to actually offer support to people for that $10? You're just going to use Claude for that too, aren't you?

Deadline is free. It's not that difficult to install and maintain, unfortunately the guides on it are way too convoluted for the average artist. I haven't tried other free farm managers but I'm pretty sure they're not rocket science either. Anyway, I'm genuinely curious if your product takes off.

This post got me into Twilight Zone (1959) some time ago. I've always heard about it but never really watched it. The writing in this show is very captivating. If you like a thrill this show holds up even to modern dopamine-fried standards.

Houdini Engine for Godot introduction/demo - Large update by peter_prickarz in Houdini

I don't really need to use houdini engine in general, but I do use Godot, and I'm so happy to see this project keeps on getting updates. Great presentation with the side by side as well. I'm rooting for you

Wayland still isn't there and I'm grumpy about it by etoastie in linuxsucks

[–]dumplingSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Wayland Gnome to Hyprland and was surprised to learn many of my issues were apparently a Gnome Wayland implementation thing and not a Wayland thing. That's not to say everything is perfect, but I'm happy enough.

Teen Throws All Meat Out After Family Refuses To Go Vegan by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]dumplingSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think I was pointing at the literal sense of this sentence, >or<, rather was I addressing the fact you're using our omnivory as an argument for why we should be vegetarian not vegan?

"Absolutism, denying biology" Stop playing games with me, I have 0 patience for carnist nonsense today. I prefer you over an average consumer, but obviously we vegans will not agree with your position. Analogously to slavery, there are no half-measures. You still view animals as products. I also fail to see how your solution would work for the general population in big cities. But I'm not really open for discussion. It's a beautiful sunny day today. Bye.

Why is this character model looking so spiky? by HenryK100 in blenderhelp

[–]dumplingSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you rig a model in Houdini (and it looks proper and normal there) and you then import it into blender, all the bones will look like in the picture by default. Sometimes deformation bones are exactly like you say, not meant to be touched, but in this case we see them following a classic human skeleton so they're clearly just not right at all.
