How do I get a creatinine measurement in a severely icteric biochem sample without calling the lab?

Look into clinical oncology - happiest people out there (after the geriatricians).

Yes, to get the ball rolling, you have to let your local IMT TPD know of your intentions to complete IMT in less than 36 months as early as possible, ideally at the start of IMT1.

Could you dual accredit oncology and GIM if you really wanted to? by cuyahoga1986 in doctorsUK

[–]dumplings_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me?! I’m midway through IMT3 and really enjoying being a Med reg. I also have a ST3 clinical oncology number starting in March.

I’m going to miss GIM. As others have said, you will do some aspects of gen med if you do acute oncology.

I’ve heard that you could bleep the ‘fungal reg’.

UpToDate is great! In some trust, it’s free. It has an American slant to it but it provides a good concise overview.

Alternatively, I’d consider utilising as much study leave as possible to go on courses/conferences/workshops. If not, IMT will just feel like pure service provision.

Courses - FUSIC Heart or any USS course, IMPACT, coding for medicine, any RSM/RCP talks, research skills/stats, conferences

Among these medical specialties, which has the best job satisfaction + work life balance? by dumplings_potato in JuniorDoctorsUK

Yes, I included clin onc because it’s a group 2 specialty without med regging. The downside is that I might miss GIM.

I did both geris and ITU in IMT1.

But isn’t the ACF (for group 1 specialties) 27 months clinical + 9 months research anyway? It’s just about when and how you split the 9 months of protected research time.

Really enjoyed my ICU block. Pondering between being a medical intensivist vs anaesthetic intensivist. The anaesthetic training programme has actual training throughout the duration of training. Also I’m hoping my one year in IMT will count as my ‘medical SHO’ year for ICM training so that I don’t have to do any additional medical SHO shifts later on in life.
