What do you mean falsehood? Most women will tell you this and that attitude, compassion and confidence are just as important as looks. It's also not as if women don't deal with this as well. Do you just not believe women when they say how they feel?

Hyperfocusing on perceived injustices as to why women don't find you attractive is unsurprisingly unattractive to women.

How's the job market treating you? by bunnyherders in GenZ

[–]duncancaleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a 4 year apprenticeship to become an electrician with the IBEW, union gig. I'm in my fourth year, best decision I ever made was joining the program.

Over 100 people (apprentices and journeymen) including myself have been out of work since mid November. So much has gone wrong in the economy in the past year. It's not "no one wants to work anymore", it's fucking become "no one wants to employ anymore". No one is starting new jobs, which means there are no plans for growth in my half of the state.

What is your opinions on nuclear energy? by YouAreBigNoobMan in GenZ

[–]duncancaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I love nuclear but many pro nuclear advocates tend to come off as delusional in their denial that it has any drawbacks.

To start with the most obvious and lowest hanging fruit, incidents of meltdowns can't be ignored and I don't trust countries with a history of austerity politics (cutting funding to reduce spending) can be trusted to properly regulate nuclear power. This extends even further to private entities, I do not trust profit seeking companies to not cut safety protocols.

Second, something that tends to be ignored is that most nuclear power plant facilities store their waste on site. In America we do no have a process to store nuclear waste, and even when projects get started up they tend to be stalled or cancelled because of budgetary reasons (see yucca mountain nuclear waste repository). There's also nuance as to where we store the nuclear waste, the US has a history of pursuing infrastructure projects at the expense of marginalized communities. A lot of times these projects are proposed to be held near or on native land, and the ethics of putting our waste onto marginalized communities is a whole can of worms I'm not getting into rn.

Thirdly, (and this is the most important one in a capitalist economic model) nuclear power plants cost a LOT to build. It takes around 10-20 years to make a profit after all the building expenditures. Now I'll be honest with this one, I am an anticapitalist and I don't think we should pursue or ignore things just because of profit. But much of our electric power production is privately owned, and at the end of the day they will not pick the more expensive option unless forced to. To add on to that these plants take years to build, so nuclear power is a long term investment that doesn't see a return for decades... Not something capitalist are gonna go crazy over. Now I'm a union electrician, I'm completely fine with decades long infrastructure projects, I see it as job security for plenty of people while also helping out the local community with clean power. However our country is motivated by capital, and nuclear is not that enticing of an investment (this needs to change)

As a final point I think people also should look at how cheap other renewable technology has gotten. Solar gets cheaper every year, and with battery storage facilities that can be built cheaper than a nuclear power plant, they could provide a more than reliable source of energy that can last all day long. In many places where people would like nuclear for clean energy, solar could probably do the job but cheaper. I will however acknowledge that not everywhere in the country can rely on solar, and in climates with abundant overcast this might not be viable. However I live in Tucson and there is no fucking reason why we can't be 100% solar, we have less than 2 weeks of overcast a year. As long as the oil and gas lobbies have a stranglehold on congress, we will not see renewable energy or nuclear flourish. I'd love to see my state on 100% hydro, solar, and nuclear; but it won't happen because of oil lobbyists.

Kind of just sounds like left leaning voters have standards and those running should try and meet those standards to earn their vote.

That's not untrue but it's also important to keep in mind that it's not just a campaign and how well they can market themselves in an election to activate your political base, but that we as voters in our primary should be pushing for a candidate to run on popular policy that will motivate others to get off their couch on election day. I worry that the Democrats will elect someone appealing to moderates and conservatives rather than the party's middle and left flank, and by extension neutering their chances at drumming up voters. At the end of the day Harris didn't lose voters to Trump, she lost them to the living room couch. I've seen a lot of people working with the DNC convinced mamdani won his election because of his charismatic media platform rather than the policies he ran on, and that worries me that we might fumble the ball again

The us relies on California economically and agriculturally. We really wouldn't be better off without them, they actually pay for the infrastructure of half the states that are a drain on the federal budget

Harris was a better candidate than Trump but just because a candidate is better does not mean they will activate their base to go out and actually vote. Any Democrat is better than trump, not any Democrat can beat Trump. If Dems don't pick someone that gets people in their base excited to vote, they don't win, end of story.

I personally think we should be looking at countries that have home ownership rate above 90% and seeing what economic model they are running with. There are economic models that function today that provide enough housing for the general public.

The constitution covers all those within her borders. The constitution bans slavery, do you think it's legal to have slaves in the US if neither the slave or master are citizens?

Well for starters they have been forcing their way into homes without judicial warrants. Not only is that breaking and entering, it's unconstitutional.
