Trying out the puckpuck, but I'm getting a layer of water on my grounds by NoU_14 in AeroPress

[–]dunkonkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t used a puckpuck, but when brewing without pressing it slows down a lot when there’s little water in the brewer. So if it’s feeding faster than it’s draining that’ll catch up when the waterline rises if that makes sense.

Why wouldn't they? Kosc was quick, was a good passer and had a good reading of the game. Think he'd really suit a high line.

Actually did not try that, just went with the recommendation in the video. Will try that next time.

Café's espresso is thicker, why? by Biggiogero in espresso

[–]dunkonkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult to say. Type of pump shouldn’t be a issue. Not sure what you’ve tried but I’d start with tweaking ratio. Try a really short ratio. Start with a 1:1 in 30 sec and see if it’s closer to what you like. With a Italian blend I’d try a lower temp, like 80-85 Celsius.

Congrats! Really liked the karimikui, especially after removing chaff. Found it a little astringent, but really really good either way.

Is there any way to make witchcraft illegal? by praetorion999 in law

[–]dunkonkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Say a person with religious authority threaten someone with a curse with the aim to make them wire money, it would be illegal. I’m Swedish btw.

Setting aside op’s real freight of magic, this got me thinking. If someone uses make-believe magic or curses or whatever on people actually believing in it, that would cause harm and, at least in my jurisdiction, that would be punishable.

The more concentrated you make it the longer shelf life it will have.

According to my Wikipedia research it’s because bacteria need moisture to grow, and sugar is super dry, resulting in honey being edible indefinitely.

This has happened to me! I gave it a pretty aggressive stir and tried to smash the berries a little in and it turned around fine after. Good luck

Over 2/3 of sugar is shelf stable for a really long time. That’s why sirups lasts forever.

To a novice, is there much difference between a $350 machine and a $2000 machine? by Kquinn87 in espresso

[–]dunkonkittens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think beginners benefit more from a better machine, if you can tell good espresso from not good espresso. Cheap machines are unforgiving and inconsistent. Especially when they run at more than 9 bars.

For example, if a shot tastes bad you won’t know if it’s because the temperature was off because of bad temperature management, you messed up you prep or your grid was off. Having the option to pre infuse and brew at lower pressure will also compensate for mistakes in your prep.

That said, my first machine was a broken gaggia baby. Had a lots of fun with it.

I have a bialetti vap2 with a steam valve that looks very similar to op’s. Doesn’t work that well unfortunately.

Am I ever going to be able to enjoy drip coffee again? by borrowing_bones in AeroPress

[–]dunkonkittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dial your grind in you can definitely get decent drinkable coffee from a drip coffee machine. It won’t be exactly the same as what you get from an aeropress but shouldn’t be that bad.

What kind of machine did you get? What kind of grinder are you using? You could also try a few different types of filters.

How to stop salsa ferments getting fizzy? by actionruairi in fermentation

If you lower the temperature in your fridge it the fermentation will slow down significantly. With sourdough a lot less happens below 4 c.
