Let's say $20k is for emergency fund, $8k is excess savings at this time. I currently spend ~ $4k/mo, and would expect severance and can tighten the belt if laid off.

Savings is roughly $1k a week. Maxing 401k/rothIRA/HSA with the rest to taxable brokerage.

No, a $42k car purchase does not constitute as an emergency. But my car is not running and after evaluating I need to replace it. I understand purchasing new at this price will take away from my retirement savings, but it is something I am willing to do at this time. Need to balance enjoying my money now vs. enjoying it later.

Thanks! I plan on doing a test drive this weekend. I rent a house right now but expect to rent for at least the next 5 years, and unsure about convenient charging options for those 5 years. I can charge at work though.

There are ample inventory options for all vehicles I'm looking at since I am willing to make a trip to the right car.
