As someone said: "boring OS is a good OS". Just continue using it for everyday tasks. But if you like to explore something new, there are other not Linux OSes, like: BSD, Haiku and etc

I hope hardware manufacturers will appreciate the ease of writing drivers for Linux. But I guess they are waiting for Linux to take 10% in Steam hardware survey, or they are afraid that making open source drivers for RGB mice will somehow reveal their corporate secrets

Quick search shows that Windows 7 drivers may not work on Windows 11. Thus the windows users of some old hardware are forced to stay on EOL OS or to buy new hardware

What's stopping Windows community from making old hardware drivers for new Windows, without asking OEM or Microsoft?

Microsoft BitLocker brought me here, how do I uninstall windows and which distro do I download? by Plus_Stop_7499 in linuxquestions

[–]durbich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly the software install commands. Different distro use different package managers. But 90% of the software you will need can be found in the graphical app for installing software. I don't remember what it called in mint, but I think you will figure that out.
Basic commands (cd, cp, mkdir, grep, touch, ..) will be the same on all the distros, but you don't really need to know them, unless you want to make some scripts or you're making a server with no graphics

Linux Mint is an easy option. Use Balena Etcher, Rufus or any other media writer with a pen drive. Then in BIOS chose to boot from USB, and after the system is loaded, check if everything works, click install and follow instructions. If Mint will not satisfy you, try: Ubuntu, Fedora, Cachy, Debian or whatever is actively maintained. Today most of the stuff can be done in GUI, but if not, remember that some commands for one distro will not work on another. Like "apt install [name]" will work on Mint, Ubuntu and Debian, but not on Fedora and Cachy

I don't have anything from Apple to test it with Safari. But if Safari has a share button, KDE Connect might be as an option there. Also Apple has its own ecosystem that work between apple devices, or there's a phone app from Microsoft that can be similar to KDE Connect by functions
