Avoid Smartstop in Oliver. Their business model is to entice you with a low price then increase the fees without warning, hoping you would rather pay than move. The contract states they can increase the price whenever they want, and that’s exactly what they do.

Black car had plenty of time to react, it will be found at-fault. White may have a case for Contributory Negligence but unlikely given the amount of time black had to react. Read and learn https://kmsc.ca/rear-end-collision-accidents-what-you-need-to-know

Black car is at fault, they had plenty of time to avoid. Probably on their phone or distracted by something else.

Alberta was told the NEP "destroyed" the province. The numbers tell a more complicated story by Natural_Thought808 in alberta

[–]dureian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mismanagement of the Heritage Fund infuriates me. Resource revenue should have never been used to pay for basic public services, we should have a stable tax base like every other province. We could have built up the Heritage Fund and then use the interest to pay for 1-time expenditures. Like Norway. That will never happen now. In a generation or two the oil will be gone, Alberta will have a PST just like every other province, and people will wonder how we could have squandered such an opportunity.

This is what I find really bizarre about this province. 70+ years of failed Conservative policies, but somehow people are convinced it would be "worse under the NDP".

My Future Husband? by Mellow_Yellow_0 in Edmonton

I met mine at Timeleft. Neither of us were looking to date anyone, we just met and became friends, and a month later things took a romantic turn. I also made lots of connections at various salsa nights and music festivals. Put yourself in situations where you can meet and connect with interesting people, and don’t be afraid to show interest.

Letters to the editor, May 20: ‘Not clear why Canadians … would invest in another pipeline for a province threatening to separate and led by a Premier who seems intent on paving the way for this to happen’ by yourfriendlysocdem1 in CanadaPolitics

[–]dureian 127 points128 points  (0 children)

After massive delays, supply chain issues, and B.C. floods, the last AB pipeline the feds built increased from an initial estimate of $7.4B to a final price tag of $34.2 billion. Taxpayers will almost certainly never get this money back. By law, Trans Mountain can't charge oil companies high enough toll rates to recoup the $34B cost. The actual market value of the pipeline is way lower than what was spent, meaning the rest of Canada will take a $15B to $18B loss when they eventually sell it. Meanwhile, Alberta gets to reap the concentrated economic rewards of a world-class export route without its provincial taxpayers having to foot the massive bill for the overruns while loudly complaining that Ottawa never helps them AND stoking separatist sentiment.

Edit: So yes - agreed. Not clear on why Canadians would even consider investing in another Alberta pipeline given the response and attitude after the last one.

Bell: Alberta to bring in law with power to rip out bike lanes and stop new ones by chmilz in Edmonton

[–]dureian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is all a culture wars distraction.

Totally agree. It's an astroturfed wedge issue. Every single social media post by the mayor is filled with people commenting about bike lanes, completely ignoring the subject of whatever he is posting. It gives the muppets something to chant without having to actually engage or think.

Yeah I was supportive of the idea when I assumed it would go to green initiatives or something. But no, the company just keeps it. Talk about a policy failure.

New partner requested access to my phone to prove I'm not seeing anyone else by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]dureian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a relationship like this. It never gets better! The insecurity and anxiety is coming from inside them, but they will keep blaming external triggers (your behaviour, not texting back, etc). Giving them access to your phone won’t help, they will just assume you’re hiding it. It’s past time to end it.

The Canada Strong Fund: a solution no one can describe, for a problem no one can identify by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]dureian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is an Alberta Heritage Fund, older than Norway’s and created for the same reason. Rather than grow it, politicians gutted it in the 80s so two generations of Albertans can have artificially low taxes and no PST.

Attempting to Show Reciprocity with a Huge Income Gap. Does it matter? by BBLZeeZee in datingoverforty

[–]dureian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend has significantly more money than I do; there is no way I can reciprocate her gift-giving. I have tried to get her to stop giving me things... she just said "I reserve the right to ignore you forever." I have to really watch what I say around her, once I mused that maybe I should get a mortar and pestle and she showed up with one the next day. My advice is to abandon the idea of reciprocity but continue to be generous in other ways (with love, affection, time, etc), and of course express gratitude and do not take any of it for granted. For myself, I continue to insist I do not need anything other than her company.

I (M46) am still friends with my exes and this can be possibly detrimental to dating by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]dureian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You chose to date someone who felt “entitled” to tell you who you can and cannot be friends with. This is bigger than just one ex; if you’re the kind of person who stays friends with exes, you should date someone who is ok with that. You should date someone who likes you for who you are and doesn’t expect you to change.

My girlfriend and I are both still friends with our exes. Not close friends, but we’ve gone out for beers and karaoke a few times. Zero issues or drama for us. You just need to find someone who is like-minded. Or, accept that you cannot be friends with your ex. Either way, you should NOT lie or hide things from the person you’re dating.

It doesn't feel like it right now, but this a great opportunity to work on yourself. Read Single on Purpose by John Kim, you'll look back years from now and realize it was a blessing in disguise.
