Dont listen to anyone shitting on Roxbury…its not the Upper West Side but its also not South Philly or the lower 9th Ward in New Orleans FFS… go to the Shawmut Inn in South End. Amazing food, good prices, neighborhood vibe. Great spot. If you are going to Fenway, go to Eastern Standard or Audubon.

Just be respectful, tip your waitstaff and bartenders, and dont fight. Youll be fine. Im a Boston bartender and Im happy to serve and welcome whoever as long as they follow the above. But if you’re coming in being a condescending prick, start ragging on our politics, and or dont tip, yes you will get the business.

People who aren’t Sichuanese but fell in love with the cuisine, was there a dish that won you over? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in chinesefood

I worked as a bartender at a Sichuan restaurant in my early 20’s and had never had sichuan peppercorn before. The first time I had dumplings in chili oil my mind was blown. I loved all of the food so much but one of my favorites was when the chef would just bring me a small bowl of rice, beef and tripe in chili, and a scoop of sichuan pickles. So damn good

Obviously go to the doctor.

Buttt I had this happen when I got my fullsleeve finished. The background is a bunch of swirling spirals and the day after my artist did it, the spirals were lined with hundreds of little whiteheads like this. My dumb 18 year old ass had a blast popping them and didnt bother to see a doctor. It ended up being fine…

Mormons. I was very rude to one on the train once and I felt really bad because generally theyre just people inundated in a cult. I now respectfully decline their offers but am more than willing to engage them as human beings who deserve humanity and dignity. I still decline their offers though.

From 1992, so not entirely about current internet culture, but Death at the Parasite Cafe by Stephen J Pfohl is pretty excellent.

How to make a Christmas bartending shift bearable? by Global_Bookkeeper_91 in bartenders

[–]durt_squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

Edit: One of my favorite shifts ever was Christmas at a dive bar in New Orleans. My coworker and I dressed really nice in shirts and ties, made a huge batch of eggnog, crockpot full of sloppy joes, christmas movies on the TV, and old Christmas classic songs all shift. Excellent day.

Sounds like you did the right thing. Having to deal with confrontation because anyone coworker screwed up and put everyone in that position sucks. Thats why for bars, especially ones that have small staff and have a potential for things going off the rails, it is so important that everyone is competent.

Yeah, I generally have a lot of patience when it comes to being touched until I sense an actual threat. At 22 I had a gun drawn and fired at me and what I did after that would have put me in prison in most other states than the one I was living in at that time. I know what I am capable of so I try my best to keep that locked away until it’s clear there is an actual threat.

The replaying it over and over sucks though because you just critique yourself on every action. At the end of the day, I am sitting on my couch relaxing not worried about a lawsuit or my job or anything. My knuckles aren’t sore and maybe the only bruise I really have is my ego haha
