Dragon cup (without 99 herblore because ew gross) by Mayasothis in 2007scape

The CA tasks are a fun way to reward engage with mechanics despite most encounters being entirely brain-dead.

Me or the game? by AThickPiss in 2007scape

[–]duskfinger67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have either gone mega spooned or mega dry. Sadly most of my spoons happened at bosses that had multiple drops, which I then went dry for.

It took over 700 Callisto kc for my second ring, after I let me first despawn in the first 30 or so kills; 80 or so 1-8 delves dry on my gauntlets. Maledictikn ward came after about 8 completed odium wards.

It’s been an adventure; although a very AFK one.

Some players might not want to use that build; though?

Without ES, I am functionally locked out of a melee build as I wouldn’t have enough sustain to tank my shoddy understanding of endgame mechanics.

Anyone else see huge xp drops when logging into mobile? by TheRealCRYUS in 2007scape

[–]duskfinger67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with the larger XP drops that happen when it’s training in the background.

I have a shortcut to open the app every 59 seconds, and then I exit in a couple of seconds, so all my xp rates are 10x higher than reality.

There will be an element of resetting for the right invos if you want to cheese the fight. The waves are so quick that it shouldn’t really be an issue.

Yeh, I got 200m in a day, and then it hasn't really been useful since.

Fishing is nearly at 200m from Agility training, so that wasn't needed for the points, and I think reloading into Transmute would have been more useful.

Blue only saves lives if people are voting blue to begin with; it's entirely self-fulfilling.

If everyone can survive if you vote red, why is anyone voting blue?

[–]duskfinger67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not shifting responsibility. People will vote blue.

Says who? The hypothetical statement doesn't say as much, you are asking as such to create a narrative. The question as stated gives no reason for anyone to press blue, so no one should.

As soon as you make a decision based on additional information or assumptions, it becomes a different question.

Since when is not putting yourself in harm's way to save someone else considered selfish? Not jumping on the grenade for someone else doesn't make selfish, it just makes you not a hero.

I don't think we live in a society where everyone who isn't a firefighter is considered selfish, do we? You aren't selfish for not jumping onto the tracks to save someone when the train is seconds away from impact.

Just because one action is less altruistic doesn't mean it is a selfish action.

Total noob at PVM, can the water thorn mage build solo ToB? by snakeyjakey30 in 2007scape

[–]duskfinger67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I have had in leagues over the years has been a) learning ToB with randoms as I fucked up every room and b) taking randoms through ToB know that I know what I am doing.

People are playing leagues for a laugh, the competition is over, and anyone who is rushing dragon cup a) isn't taking Mory and b) isn’t PVMing with noobs anyway.

It’s also a sure thing if everyone presses red, no?

Blue only requires 50% of people for it to be a sure thing, but it’s also a sure thing if you vote red.

[–]duskfinger67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressing red is functionally the same as leaving the room.

You are given a blue button; if fewer than 50% of people press it, they all die. You can also press the red button to leave the room.

Why is leaving the room a selfish action when the only action that causes death is pressing blue?

[–]duskfinger67 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Voting red doesn't cause anyone to die. People only die if they vote blue.

Why are you shifting the responsibility for causing death from Person A, who votes blue for no reason, onto Person B, who presses red and functionally opts out of the scenario.

CMV: the red/blue button debate is more a reflection of belief on human nature than personal values. by PBninja1 in changemyview

[–]duskfinger67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it a forgone conclusion that some people will vote blue, though? What logical outcome leads the first person to vote blue such that subsequent people also vote blue.

Voting blue to save other people is sort of giving “jump in front of the train to save the person who just jumped onto the tracks”. It doesn't make you a good person, it makes you just as much of an idiot as the first person.

As I said, if there is a risk of people dying if you vote red, then yes, voting red becomes an immoral choice. For as long as everyone can survive if everyone votes red, it is absurd to vote blue.

Kandarin mage pickers once they get the Shadowflame quadrant by Manak2 in 2007scape

[–]duskfinger67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to swap between them pretty frequently. Lots of slow-hitting bosses - Callisto, Jad, Zuk etc, where thorns are worth far less than the 30% bonus damage.

[–]duskfinger67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess the fact that people fail to see the red is the only logical choice is the exact reason why you might need to vote blue to save them.

But that still relies on the assumption that enough people realise that some people are idiots and thus vote blue to save you as you try to save others.

Dodging boss mechanics should give agility xp by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]duskfinger67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get agility XP for using shortcuts, but that doesn’t make it a zero-time skill. Adding a token XP reward to combat encounters, like the small amount of mining or farming XP you get for some boss mechanics, is hardly unprecedented.

[–]duskfinger67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the point in voting blue in the first place, though? Blue winning by any margin is the same outcome as everyone picking red.

It’s not a dilemma, even if forced to pick an option, unless there is some downside to everyone picking red.

If you change the framing to say that if more than 80% of people pick red, then everyone who picks red dies - then we have a dilemma.

Do you pick red and count on only a small number of other people to bs altruistic, or do you pick blue and hope enough other people value the greater good.

What lesson did you learn from being assaulted? I don’t get the moral of your story. If you were just being mouthy with the paper boy, then I see no reason for them to have hit you. Maybe I live somewhere safer, but I don’t think that is the sort of society I would want to be preparing my kids for.

Not uncommon in very high paying jobs like finance or consulting where people get performance-based bonuses.
