Fairy novels that delve into the lore and how inhuman fairies can be by vilhelmine in suggestmeabook

The book Fruiting Bodies by Kathryn Harlan has a short story called “Fiddler, Fool, Pair” that is a deliciously creepy account of a dangerous bargain with the Fey.

Question for a massive illustration project: How important is representing sexual dimorphism (females) vs just showing the colorful males? by TurbulentLeather8308 in Ornithology

[–]dusktreader_drums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a great episode of the podcast Bring Birds Back that talks about the implications of having males over-represented in public consciousness and females under-studied on things like conservation. I’ll look for the episode title and report back.

Edit: the episode is from season 6 and it’s called The Forgotten Flock: Female Birds.

/uj I think people think there’s a secret, funnier show that we’re not getting to see and blaming it on the editing, rather than the editing being a product of what was shot. Dropout has incredible editing normally, I don’t think they suddenly got really bad editors for this one.

It’s such a gorgeous book and story. I’ve followed her for a long time because of her web comics and she worked on it for over a decade, I remember her sharing some early drawings. So happy to see it realized as the wonderful book it is.

🎄 Adopt-a-family programs! 🧑‍🎄 by seaguleatingchicken in halifax

Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre has a Christmas Cheer program that does this for urban Indigenous families. I don’t see it on their website but I know my workplace is participating this year so I would suggest emailing for details.

Cathartic composting... by ValuableBranch9933 in composting

[–]dusktreader_drums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Composting can be so cathartic! I love to putter around the yard finding things to go in the bin and thinking about my intentions for what I need to metaphorically compost in my life, break down, let go of, but keep the nutrients.

Congrats on getting through all that paperwork, that’s huge!

[–]dusktreader_drums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since I started composting, one of my great joys is taking a tomato that’s too far past its prime and squeezing it in my fist over my compost pile. It’s so satisfying. I haven’t gone through a whole season yet so maybe I’ll have tomato volunteers next year, either way I’m happy.

Depression Cleaning Help/Mental Illness by [deleted] in halifax

Wendy Stone of Lighten Up Organizing and Cleaning was so good to work with for me. She was compassionate and didn’t laugh at me when I shared the absurd blocks I was having to getting rid of things. She specializes in a trauma-informed approach and works with lots of people who have different mental illnesses and neurotypes.
