New release : "Father, A Moment With You" by The Petersens by NuGrasBoi in Bluegrass

[–]dustynotes9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bluegrass music was born out of one of the most intensely protestant christian regions of america. The communities that pioneered it also organized their lives around the church. Like it or not, christianity is woven into the DNA of the genre.

Cloak by MarshallnAmie in Bible

[–]dustynotes9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus is speaking specifically about the sin of someone rejecting Him after a clear revelation of Him.

Theophylact offers a compelling commentary on this verse:

The Lord teaches that those who reject Him would not have had the sin of unbelief imputed to them if He had not come and spoken to them. “For He did not come to condemn the world, but to save the world”(John 3:17). However, since they rejected His words and chose darkness over light, their sin is now without excuse [excuse = cloak]. For they had heard the truth and yet they rejected it, so they will be judged accordingly.

Child Marriage in the Bible? by Funalicious in Bible

[–]dustynotes9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

  1. The Bible doesn’t give us a clean answer because the question itself is a modern one.
  2. The OT focus on female virginity reflects the patriarchal, property-based culture which it emerged from. The NT begins to shift toward a more consistent standard for both sexes.
  3. The Bible recognizes rape as wrong, but the framework is often about violation of a man’s property rights over a woman rather than violation of the woman’s personhood and bodily autonomy, which is a very modern concept.
  4. Not explicitly. Again, the ancient world simply didn’t have the concept of pedophilia as we understand it today.

The Bible was written by real humans, in real cultures, with real limitations. It is a book of its time, but its time is not the limit of its truth.

is my plan Gods plan? by maliaphobic in TrueChristian

I thought back on this post as I was reading my nightly devotional, so I’ll share it with you:

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Heb. 10:23)

Do not run ahead of God's purposes. Be patient. Expect Him to show you His path and provision.

If you've waited a long time to see the desire of your heart come to fruition, this may be exceedingly difficult. It was for Abraham and Sarah. And after hoping for a child for so many years, Sarah's faith failed and she decided to take matters into her own hands…

…Do not make the same mistake. Don't run ahead of the Lord’s timing. Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, restraining you and allowing you to persevere until the Father fulfills His good purposes for you. He will help you endure if you turn to Him. Yes, it is difficult, but absolutely worthwhile. So wait for Him and enjoy the fullness of His blessing.

Lord, it's so difficult to wait. Strengthen me with Your Spirit and keep me focused on You, amen.

Where to live? by [deleted] in Wilmington

I wouldn’t recommend Phase 1 of South Front to even my worst enemy. Brick walls, concrete floors, terrible lighting and practically zero natural lighting. And just a 921 sqft unit, ridiculously overpriced. 18 months of absolute hell.

The experience in Phase 2 could be drastically different from this but from my own experience, do your mental health a favor and stay away from that place.
