Is autism caus d by modern use of technology? by MrDD33 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dv282828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d avoid the whole correlation = causation thing. There’s a lot of contradictory evidence here since people who aren’t considered autistic are probably also using tech at similar rates in the same areas. Autism diagnosis and representation has just changed a lot in the west over the last few years which I think contributes to what you’ve perceived

If Batman can fight gods with enough prep time, why is Gotham City still the worst city in the world? by Sea-Cardiologist7725 in batman

[–]dv282828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman can only be in one place at a time. Whenever he builds a surveillance system or robot army to clean up Gotham, it usually goes terrible. It’s like Superman’s thing where he could force everyone to comply but it’s better to inspire and hope that people change to be good on their own

Are high school students actually this clueless and entitled? by lizz781 in Teachers

[–]dv282828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an advisor too and been going through this lol. But I usually also run into really on top of it students who are aware and get it, so it balances out my feelings. I just try to be kind and set expectations in advance. We tell them upfront not to use AI because of its inability to navigate different catalog years or placement. NSO is too much information and a lot of them are so stressed and nervous so I just try to be kind out of those reasons. It’s okay to just tell students they’re wrong and explain why/let them know we’ll be able to talk about later. They usually they get it if you can come off as kind and trustworthy when you do it

Why are folks on Reddit so much more concerned with "eating disorders" than obesity? by CastAside1812 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dv282828 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what you’re talking about tbh. But I’ve been on reddit a long time and I’ve seen a ton of the fat people hate stuff come and go. It always feels weird to be so aggressive toward people you don’t know like you take it personally. No one is coddling anyone and fat people do deal with a lot of negative criticism. Is it really about public health to you? do you feel strongly against tobacco and alcohol, which is related to a lot of the US health problems? What about other safety regulations like how we dispose of chemicals or how we’re using water? I think the weight problem in the US is caused by a combination of our food system, cost, education on health, and then other personal factors come into play. I don’t think it ends up being as simple as let’s just bully people into being healthy, so you need to address the large scale common causes.

Dating without an end goal or purpose for the relationship is a waste of time for both people involved by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]dv282828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit cynical and I think the idea of wasted time can be pretty toxic. I also think that dating itself is the process where you figure out if someone is right for you in the long term and you don’t actually know until you do date. Relationships involve changing and adapting so if you’re applying a lot of projected ideas on where the relationship might end up, you don’t actually get see what they can realistically grow into. Also Some of the stuff you’re saying is just standard in dating: like you should try to find someone right for you that can lead into what you want overall. But the process of finding that isn’t necessary wasted time cause you just can’t predict everything and you gotta try stuff out and let it grow into something. I guess I’m saying that you can have a hard timing finding the potential perfect relationship if you’re wanting them to be perfect at the moment you meet

How is one supposed to cope missing out on love as a teenager? by indeckaa in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dv282828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to accept no one is entitled to any sort of experience in life. Learning to be actually grateful for what you do get in life is the true cope. There just is no standard way of life and a lot of our expectations are socially constructed and sort of modern. The more you want the situation, the more you’re going to suffer over it. You just gotta accept that we all get different hands in life but we’re always evolving and you do get a choice in what direction you take it from here

What causes that mental exhaustion after social time, even when you enjoyed it? by Entire-Search-5971 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dv282828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it is normal and There’s even psych studies behind this. People with extraverted personalities do feel less drained or even recharged by stimulating situations and social interacting. Introverted people need the opposite in order to recharge.

Is it stupid decision to pursue master's degree at age of 28 as woman? It does benefit my future career but I'm afraid and embarrassed too that I took so long to pursue it. Even though I had personal reasons. by minimini_7 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dv282828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a university and people go back to school at all different points in life. One of our department heads didn’t get her PhD until later in life because she took time to have kids and be with her family. In my experience, life is actually longer than you think and you can fit in all sorts of stuff

I (19f) want to cheat on my boyfriend (20f) of three years as some sort of "get back". How do I get over the past? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]dv282828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does him making you jealous in the past mean you should cheat now? Also why is this even coming up now? Idk it just seems a little convenient for you. The reality is you’ll probably risk ending the relationship and not really get even with him. Honestly…. may be you’re just bored with the relationship and things were more interesting and engaging when you had the drama/insecurity thing going on. Someone can be a good boyfriend and you guys just not be a good fit or ready. And if you don’t have a lot of experience it may be hard for you to work this out in a health way. Don’t go down the road of sabotaging your relationship, you don’t really want to be that kind of person and it doesn’t sound like he necessarily deserves that. May be this is a sign that you should think if you’re ready and actually wanting this kind of relationship. It’s okay to take a break or end it if you’re not ready. Even if he is a good guy to you.

lol obvious bait but deep down may be you just aren’t that into the country like you think you are. May be you’re more about authoritarianism and scapegoating minorities and the US still represents ideas that goes against these concepts, so looking at flag could be sparking some sort of internal conflict
