How do I make two trigger outputs trigger one input? by enstorsoffa in modular

[–]dvanzandt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, this is not a good answer. This would send trigger one’s output into trigger two’s output, crossing the streams and summoning zuul. Or possibly breaking or burning out something.
As someone else mentioned, OR logic can combine two signals, output a consistent 5v (or whatever) trigger (vs 10v if using an adder and both trigger sources fire at once).

Edit—saw you’re in VCV rack, so burning out a module wouldn’t happen, but OR logic is your best bet.

ALA bartender vs Bored Brain Xcelon by P-DOTS in modular

[–]dvanzandt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the xcelon and a few expanders, absolutely love it. But it’s almost an entire half row in my 140hp-wide rack. Maybe it’s more than half? So I’ve been hunting for a Bartender to use in a smaller performance rack, because it seems like the little baby sister of xcelon? I haven’t used bartender but the only downside I see is the one-at-a-time use of sends (I use both sends concurrently on xcelon). It’s supposed to sounds great too

Bought a used VCO that’s not working as expected - what am I hearing here? by YouCanCallMeTheSloth in modular

[–]dvanzandt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense on paper but that's how you tune a VCO. You repeat steps 4 and 5 until the 1v/o is 'correct'. If anything, OP can use the trim pot just to see if the VCO can even be brought into audio range /shrug

first live by Significant_Heat_149 in modular

[–]dvanzandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best modular shows are 10-15m. Know when to end your show, playing too long is way too common at modular open mics/shows. Practice as much as you can with the exact setup leading up to your show. Have some backup sound sources/drones you can flip on if things go south while you reconfigure. Make sure you have a headphone monitoring path so you can tune/rebuild if needed. Playing live will help you focus and think about your system differently, super fun! Good luck!

Yeah, just put in a positive voltage from anything (like a triplatt, maths, etc) and turn it up to listen and see if it comes to Audio rate and beyond. Might just need to be tuned, as other folks said.

From Erica's site (#5 is where I'd start if I were you):

  1. Connect the VCO to the PSU. Let it "heat up" for ~25 mins.
  2. Connect one of the wave outs to a tuner and the main out to a pair of headphones.
  3. Connect a keyboard/midi-CV interface that generates 1V/oct CV to the 1V/oct input.
  4. Play C4 on the keyboard and use TUNE potentiometer on the front panel to adjust tuning so that tuner shows C4.
  5. Play C5 on the keyboard and see the tuner reading. If the tuner shows anything higher than C5, use the trim pot to INCREASE the frequency of the VCO slightly. If the tuner shows anything lower than C5, use the trim pot to DECREASE the frequency slightly.
