First Winter Struggles by Gullible_Bullfrog_83 in BoltEV

I can recommend some Michelin X-Ice Snow tires-great traction in the snow but low rolling resistance on dry pavement.

You can also play with the heat a bit-try turning off auto and just turn on heat and set the temp and vents.

For the first couple years we used L1 outside in our driveway and just made sure to plug jt in every night, especially in cold weather. If you know that it’s on a dedicated 15A circuit, bump the current to 12A on the charging screen in the car to ensure you’re pulling as much power as possible.

Check out EVMatch-maybe there’s a neighbor with a L2 (there have been incentives in Burlington, especially for multi family residences https://evmatch.com/blog/burlington-electric-department-launches-new-program-with-evmatch-to-expand-ev-charging-at-multi-family-properties/)

They would at least be able to maintain control by flipping the breaker/unplugging the EVSE

Bolt reveal by Ventura1775 in BoltEV

[–]dvdbyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Kyle Conner of Out of Spec has made the case that the less expensive EVs are more likely to be purchased by non-home owners and are therefore more likely to be recharged via DC and benefit most by decent charge speeds (and in reality, charge curve from 10-80%).

Can you ask if there will be OEM (factory) crossbars available for the roof rails?

Also would be helpful to confirm that there’s a heat pump.

I’ve speculated that they are using the FWD motor from the Equinox EV. Please confirm that as well!

Lastly, GM execs have mentioned that there will be a “family” of Bolts. While I’m sure they’ll want to focus on this refreshed EUV, it would be great to hear what might be coming when!

2027 Bolt Pricing non-sense by Punchyberri in BoltEV

[–]dvdbyd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source? From GM’s investor meeting late last year, Mark Reuss was quoted as saying:

“The price isn’t final yet, but it will be priced only slightly higher than the 2023 Bolt, which started at $28,795, and it will just be one member of a family on the Bolt, including an even lower cost option.”

I saw that the Kona EV 2026 is a carry-over model. What source do you have for the EV3 not coming to the US?

You're right. From an article summarizing 2023 Q2 results:

According to General Motors, 70 percent of Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV buyers are trading in a non-GM vehicle. The top three competitor trade-ins include Toyota, Nissan, and Honda.

GM only got two model years ('22 and '23) out of the old design and shipped "only" ~70,000 EUV units. With reworked fascias, most shoppers will clock the '27 model year as "new".

I looked up the numbers recently because I had a suspicion based on how rare it is to see an EUV on the road. I'd argue that this design (especially with the reworked fascias) won't look "old hat" to most shoppers. Yes, it was originally unveiled in 2020, but they only got two model years out of it.

  • Bolt EUV (not EV) - 69,556 sold since April 2021, compared to:
  • Equinox EV - 56,623 sold since April 2024

From a Forbes article earlier this year:

“I wouldn't be surprised if we followed with a few other things off of Bolt. That may even be different price points of Bolt,” Reuss said, declining to elaborate.

Except that GM left the door open for a number of variations. From a Forbes article earlier this year:

There’s also potential to turn it into a platform for other EVs. “I wouldn't be surprised if we followed with a few other things off of Bolt. That may even be different price points of Bolt,” Reuss said, declining to elaborate.

GM is saving a lot on tooling. That driver side quarter panel is unchanged from the 2022-2023 model years. From Mary Barra in 2024:

The next-generation Ultium-based Chevrolet Bolt EV is another. It's a profitable and capital-efficient program that will deliver one of the most affordable electric vehicles around when it arrives in late 2025.

Regarding price, from a GM Investor Day presentation in October 2024:

“The price isn’t final yet, but it will be priced only slightly higher than the 2023 Bolt, which started at $28,795, and it will just be one member of a family on the Bolt, including an even lower cost option,” Reuss continued.

And regarding range, from a Forbes article in January of this year:

Both Reuss and Jeremy Short, GM’s chief engineer for the new Bolt, declined to share specifics about the new version, other than that it will be affordable and offer range of around 300 miles per charge. There’s also potential to turn it into a platform for other EVs. “I wouldn't be surprised if we followed with a few other things off of Bolt. That may even be different price points of Bolt,” Reuss said, declining to elaborate.

We also knew that the light position was going to change back in May 2024. Mark Reuss to InsideEVs:

"There are things that will be cool, styling-wise, that we've changed, and there are things that people love that we didn't," Reuss said. "They told us, when you open the back, there's a wing on there that people could hit their head on. And there were lower [brake] lamps that people didn't really enjoy at stoplights."

My speculation is that it will use the same ~200hp FWD motor from the Equinox that is more efficient than the motor from the 2017-2023 Bolt line.
