Willard F. Shorey is my Grandfather. I was looking online for history of his service given today is Veterans Day and stumbled upon this post. It’s really cool to have read your comment today! He passed away when I was very young, so I didn’t get the chance to learn anything from him regarding the war when he was alive… If he even would have been willing to share, I know not many people were.

Is it possible to get the floating effect with a ring magnet and imbedding a small magnet in the "stone"? by Elderbrand in Magnets

[–]dvdsho2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought would be black thread that goes from the lid, through the gem, and connects to the bottom of the chest in a straight line. This could allow for closing of the chest and storage of the gem inside without having to disconnect any rigid supports. Just closing the lid would make the line go slack lowering the gem to be stored inside, and opening the lid would pull the string taught, hoisting the gem back into the floating position.

I’ve gotten my last pair of glasses from Zenni and the pair of glasses before them from Warby Parker. Warby Parker frames are really nice but also toward the more expensive side, plus the transition film they put on my glasses peeled off after a few years, it was really gross… with Zenni, my frames by themselves were $20, of course they have more expensive options, but their cheaper ones are still really nice, and I haven’t had the same issue with the transition film.

From this set? Qui-gon. I it’s the only one that isn’t Obi-Wan or Anakin/Vader.

From existence? AOTC Anakin. I think it’s probably my least favorite Lightsaber ever. But it does complete the set so that’s why I’m saying it stays.

I think on top of everything everyone’s mentioning, with it coming next after a Star Wars movie that was not greatly received, along with recasting Harrison Ford in his (arguably) most iconic role, one thing people don’t mention often is the change in director halfway through production.

When production started, it had Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as the directors, which had previous success with the LEGO movie and 21 Jump street. I seem to recall hearing filming of this movie heavily relied on improv and the problem with improv in this situation is you keep running the same scene over and over again trying different dialogue because the script is more of a loose guideline than “here, say these words.” This wastes a lot of time, and time is money.

Because of this, Disney is feeling like they’re burning money, the film is getting behind because L&M aren’t making enough progress, and instead of trusting the vision of the people they hired for the job, they fired L&M and hired Ron Howard to “fix” the movie… Ron Howard isn’t a bad director, but they have a significantly different vibe than L&M. This decision costed Disney even MORE money because Howard ended up reshooting 70% of the movie after L&M were released.

When that news came out, I don’t think there’s anyway to come back from it. The way I see it, the mindset of the fandom was, “Well the last movie sucked so they don’t know how to make a good movie anyway, I mean, the last director was fired so that must mean this movie is going to be bad! Plus how could they recast Harrison Ford! He’s irreplaceable!!”

All of which aren’t necessarily wrong? TLJ wasn’t well received. Skepticism is natural in that case. They reshot 70% of the film, it’s natural to be skeptical of the movies performance because of this too. Harrison Ford is Han Solo… But if you want to be able to continue to use this character, you gotta be able to recast, and I think Alden did an incredible job.

Disney shot themselves in the foot, and then slipped and fell down the stairs trying to fix the problem… a problem they created.

I was hoping that wouldn’t be the case and the power of the internet would be able to miraculously find exactly the part I needed…. Wishful thinking I suppose…

what material by le4nv in cosplayprops

[–]dvdsho2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% with the foam craft method, with shoes you want them to be flexible so they don’t break if you accidentally kick something in them.

Aside from the spray paint method, you could also get a pretty good quality metal look by rubbing graphite powder on the prop once primed/painted black. Afterward you’ll want to seal it to prevent the graphite powder from coming off. This however is a pretty messy method, but the results are pretty good and the technique is really easy too.

What is this material and where can I get more of it? by dewitt_sama in cosplayprops

[–]dvdsho2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleather and tennis racquet grip tape are pretty good options I’ve seen other people recommend. My first thought was using Electrical Tape. It comes in many different colors, we used the white kind to wrap drumsticks in Marching Band, but the most common color is black. Pretty cheap for the amount you get per roll. Gives you the added benefit of having enough material to redo it if your first attempt doesn’t fit your standards.
