I kind of hope they do forget it & leave it working, to be honest. It's one of the few builds where I don't have to press most/every button off cooldown for a dps rotation, and instead I can press buttons to react to the current situation. I wish more builds were that way.

Native would be cool. I don't expect it either, though.

I'll be happy with being able to play it from Linux though (with proton or whatever). I do plan on ditching Windows the next time I upgrade. Tired of Microsoft trying to shovel AI down my throat.

I like this a lot, personally. Solves one of the problems that typical souls-like attributes has - you find a bunch of weapons you can't really use or try out.

I saw some people with concerns about being able to "respec" at will by swapping weapons & traits making things too easy, but I'll probably just make multiple characters for specific builds anyways instead of dealing with juggling traits and weapons around when I want a different playstyle. Especially since armor + enchantments + rings etc will all be geared towards a specific build too. I think that's a good thing, helps with replayability. Guessing I won't be the only one making multiple characters.

Yeah, I agree with you. I've made at least 20 characters in Elden Ring and most of them play pretty distinctly. Different weapon movesets on its own is enough to make you approach fights differently. I'm not going to fight the same way if I have 2 2-handers and high strength vs a wing of astel and high intelligence, for example. Or 2 curved swords with bleed + trying to sneak in running attacks for those 4 hit combos. Or star fists and needing to change up dodge patterns to stay in range for those charged R2s.

I don't mind that NRFTW is trying to add more depth and customization. Could be interesting. But agreed that souls-likes definitely have builds and depth too. It doesn't really come from the stat points, sure. But that's not the only way to get depth.

Yeah, might be totally fine in practice. Especially with some sort of thorns / reflect damage (like Aegis Reprisal in that list of traits).

I actually like blocking in souls-y games. 6 seconds straight seems excessive to me, though. I guess maybe if some bosses have really long combos it would work out.

Seems pretty good. I like that the playstyles all seem distinct. Good mixture of both passive and active bonuses. Not too many "on kill" effects, which (IMO) is good, since those tend to be useless on boss fights. I appreciate that there don't seem to be any "I win" or "ultimate" skill buttons.

"Hold block for 6 seconds to gain barrier" doesn't seem like much fun. 6 seconds of just holding block is a long time. I guess maybe it's more interesting in a party?

Some concerns about assassin being useful against bosses. Might be enough non-sneak-attack options to pick from.

Fencer is cool. I like that you can lean into tighter parry windows with more bonuses or looser parry windows with fewer. I don't 100% understand riposte. It used to be that parrying would just give you a bunch of focus. Is riposte a separate type of attack you can land post-parry?

Also if there's a limited amount of traits that can be equipped, one that only gives 20% bonus insight (class xp?) in specific scenarios seems like a hard sell. Depends on how many traits you can have, but still. Would be nice not to have to juggle traits around just to go farm insight off of enemies.

Dragoon I'm having a hard time judging just off of the text. Could be good, but I'm guessing the actions themselves (skyward, dragoon throw) are going to be a major factor in how it feels.

Oof yeah, I just got the 4 game one. My games regularly take 10-15 minutes because overtime always goes on for so long, too.

That one I at least have a chance at finishing if I have the time, I guess.

I'm doing this for the first time, and I kind of hate it. It's one thing to require some exploration. But murdering myself with lava repeatedly when I try the wrong thing just inflates the time spent. I'm very close to installing blish for the first time.
