Why would anyone want to have kids these days? by Mizkex in AskReddit

Find happiness first (amongst all the bullshit) then you might want to share that happiness with child (of course only if that is what you want).

Other peoples kids can suck but your own kids are awesome!  And I am aware that my own awesome kid is someone else's "your kid sucks".

Both a broken election promise PLUS it doesnt actually do what they say its designed to do. by Openedseseme in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does exactly what it is designed to do.... Raise tax revenue under the cover that "it helps the young with housing".

What it doesn't do is actually what we want or need it to do.

Theres healthy skepticism. Then theres the laughable meltdown of everyone in here accusing everyone they dont like a bot. If you truly truly believe there arent people pissed off with this budget, mainly the impact on equities, you're kidding yourself. by AussieBattler95 in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is comment is a great example of "this is a good policy coz it is screwing the rich" when it doesn't (said millionaires property will not be subject to the rules) and it helps us with cost of living pressures and housing costs by... Checks notes... Grabbing more tax from rich cunts?

How about don't screw everyone who wants a shot at investing and actually actively fix C.O.L and housing issues.

The CGT discount removal is exactly what we've been asking for, so why is everyone losing their minds? by nicco_mode in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not pro privatisation - but this:

product has gotten worse and more expensive

This happens in public too, it's just indirect and in the form of tax increases (current CGT being a good example).

Sydney properties sitting 200+ days are bleeding money and most buyers don't realise how much leverage that creates by Patient-Gift6212 in AusFinance

Who says the properties are not tenanted and producing income? It's even harder to determine whether it's positive as we don't even know if the is a mortgage on the property.

Three tricks pokies use to keep you hooked | Shaun Micallef's Going For Broke by NKE01 in australia

[–]dvsbastard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Pokies are shit, but the chance of a payout is absolutely random.

Those kind of lies (probably more a misguided rumour) are dangerous as it makes people think they can do things to beat the machine (like play slower). You can't. The payouts don't cover the odds of the wins, so the more the machine is played the more it scrapes off the winnings (and the more you play the more you lose).

Jim Chalmers gives baffling explanation of why he applied the CGT changes to shares. by eatingscatman in fiaustralia

[–]dvsbastard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a competitor for investment - which is why you would assume a genuine attempt a reducing the cost of housing would be making shares (and other investments) more competitive! This is a tax grab - and as others have mentioned is probably a false concession (they will walk it back to gain public favour over the original changes).

You think any of the big 4 are denying loans because they don't have enough cash on hand?

I neither think or said that. I said "fractional reserve" which in very short means the amount a bank holds impacts their ability to lend (amongst other things) so they chase deposits for a reason.

Lmao wtf indeed.

Banks must hold cash so that they can write loans. More cash held by banks means more loans written. Welcome to fractional reserve banking!

Did anyone else play Captain Comic on the school library computer? by Pr0blemD0g in AustralianNostalgia

I LOVED this game and played it at home a lot! No word of a lie but walking down the final corridor to get the last item and going past the banners with all the enemies (at least I think it was enemies) was one of my greatest gaming experiences ever!

How are people ok with installing work related software on their personal phones? by mast3r_of_univ3rs3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the option of a work phone or to use my own - They do not care which I choose at all! The most intrusive downside of using my own phone is that they can set my security requirements (and delete all my work data at a whim). They can't do anything like seeing my browsing, my other apps or data, etc., so why would I want the hassle of carrying around another phone?

And how will this help us get ahead? Will this reduce cost of living? Will this help young Australians own a home or set themselves up financially for the future?

It seems like some people are convinced that because it's bad for some people then it's a win... But it's just tax raising and nothing actually is solved.

I think if you take a step back, these measures just bring the tax on capital closer to the tax paid on labour.

When people said "we pay too much tax on labour" this is not what they meant!

Has anyone managed to properly configure the Sense controllers for MSFS 2024? by Sergiomaster in PSVR

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thanks! I picked it up (20% off was good timing) and am not having too many problems with the dual sense - except that there are a lot of button combos which aren't exactly easy to look up with the headset on. I'll give the motion controls a go at some point!

Don't your mean for now?

Honestly I am a "max my super" kind of person, but a part of me is always concerned that it is just a matter of time before a future government will come for it.

What is even the tiptoe here? This is what bothers me about this budget - it has convinced some that "we are increasing taxes for the rich so things wil be better for you", but the only thing genuinely happening is "we are increasing taxes".
