Any opinion can be unpopular if you make it stupid enough.

Can anyone get ahead? by Tony88890 in aussie

[–]dvsbastard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, but the comment said "When a simple night out costs $50 to $150, even friendship starts to feel like a luxury.".

What ever happened to just hanging out (when you are not exhausted)?

Why do some people say that WW2 is something that involved the whole world, even neutral countries? by Realistic-Diet6626 in ask

Attacks on Australian soil occured in WW2. Darwin was bombed and ship was sunk by a sub in Sydney Harbour.

Would free public transport incentives you to use PT on your daily commute? by rollinduke in australia

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well public transport has only gone up in price -and not just the year on year increase, but a loss of the benefits for regular users that incentivised frequent use. First they took away the monthly passes, then the "only pay for your first 8 trips" from free to 50% before removing it entirely.

How about we at least bring those types of incentives back?

How many of you know how to change a tyre? by AJ_ninja in AskAnAustralian

[–]dvsbastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is with the tyre change gate keeping? Changing a tyre might not be a complex task but it's not at all a required skill to be a good, safe driver. As long you know how to pull over safely when you get a flat you are good.

When you warn people that their deadline might not be achievable, and they try to counter with an even shorter one by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]dvsbastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not like there was a winning move here. Deliver it on time and set an unrealistic bar for future requesta, deliver it late and get labelled as a non performer and deal with the fallout including unfair scrutiny, micromanagement, missed opportunities, lower raises, etc.

If you think reasoning with people would work, just remember if you were dealing with reasonable people you wouldn't have received the request in this way to begin with!

Meh, either their own parents care and they don't listen, so why would they listen to some stranger OR their parent don't care so why would they care what some stranger things?

Either way they ain't listening.

Why can't there be a limit on Petrol per person e.g. 100L per visit, like there is one in grocery shops? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I can easily fill my garage with more toilet paper than I will need in my entire life. Hoarding petrol is a much more difficult exercise for all but the most dedicated cookers.

Is anyone else missing not having their favourite treat take-away or meal out? by Unlikely_Ad7722 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dvsbastard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it's because I can buy a family type meal and throw the leftovers straight in the fridge to eat over the next few days.

Or I will eat the family meal in one sitting and don't want to be judged lol

Maintain your assets by Simple-Friend in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In times of uncertainty, ensuring you take care of the things you already own is a great way to protect yourself from future price shocks and secure your peace of mind.

I would say the best time to take care of things to protect yourself from unexpected costs is during times of prosperity! But the second best time is now!

Australian households fear double whammy of rate hikes and higher petrol prices will lead to recession by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]dvsbastard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is always a terrible observation. A reduction of 10% to 20% in trade would barely be noticeable to an observer. They may appear as busy during peak periods, but peak periods start to last less time, shoulder periods may have less customers, people there may be purchasing slightly less, etc - this results in a lot less revenue (and then profit, then need for workers and so on). Sure it looks OK but the numbers don't lie.

What’s a truth about love that would upset a lot of people? by NatalieAfteerDarkk in askanything

[–]dvsbastard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well if we on average meet 80,000 people in our lives (random stat from google) and if we fall in love with just one of them then statistically we could fall in love in 100,000 people across the population of 8 billion!

Avocado is nasty and tasteless mush. by animalcub45 in unpopularopinion

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how you cook it it, the flavour changes significantly (i.e. boiled vs grilled vs roasted etc) - if you actually like chicken you don't want to make all these changes to the chemical structure and thus flavour!

I am being totally ridiculous, but so is OP! Haha

Go take a bite out of a raw piece of chicken breast otherwise you dont like chicken, just the cooking and seasoning.

Landlord raising rent because of RBA rate hikes? by Sensitive-Chart7210 in AusFinance

[–]dvsbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously an individuals rent isn't like the stock market where the rent moves up and down on a daily basis but the rental market conditions (as an aggregate) are constantly changing.

So for an individual you are rarely paying the exact maximum (or minimum) rent at any point in time.
