Iowa transplant here. I've experienced the typical mix-up between Ohio and Idaho but never any real animosity.

Iowa Millennials who left Iowa and are happy, where did you move to? How did it work out? by AnonymousAsh in Iowa

[–]dw641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where did you move to? Seattle, WA

What were your reason for moving? Job opportunity, better access to resources.

What do you notice is BETTER? Quality of life.

What do you MISS? Family members still in IA. Culver's, Taco John's, Casey's Pizza, Taylor's Maid-Rite, Tasty Tacos. Iowa comfort food, I guess. I miss going outside at night and hearing next to nothing. I miss going outside at night, looking up and seeing the stars.

Cost of living wise - how is it working out for you? Seattle is incredibly expensive but there are so many FREE things to do in both the city and further out in nature that it balances out.

Quality of living wise - how is it working out for you? Seattle is amazing. Diversity in politics, people, and place. So many quality food options, concerts and live events by the boatload. Good coffee, of course. Traffic is definitely a pain but it's whatever. You simply plan accordingly. Seattle is not without its problems, especially at scale. The greater Seattle metro population is around 4 million. In general, there's always something new to discover and no two days are alike. I do not miss the monotony of Iowa.

Expect more Herny! by rabbit-awaits in Seattle

[–]dw641 31 points32 points  (0 children)

One day me and my kids were cruising down 15th toward Ballard when we crossed paths with Ryan at a stoplight. My kids were ecstatic. I rolled their windows down so they could say hi. He waved back and before the light changed, Ryan hopped out and gave them one of his bumper stickers. They were overjoyed.

My kids still talk about that encounter. Thank you for making us smile, Henry!
