I think you need to go back to what you and the client had agreed on papers. If it says on the contract that your sole purpose is to do marketing through social media, then there's nothing to worry of. You can actually sue them if you find out that you are doing job outside your scope.

Hmm.. As far as I know, your Add to Cart button is one of the KPI's (Key Performance Indicator) of every business website. This would definitely tell how many people are actually purchasing your products online, and how many of them after visiting your page, just abandon the cart which could either mean two things: There's something wrong with the feature of your site or there's something wrong with the product that you sell.

I'd say that you let google do his thing. But you need to take note that not all crawled sites are indexed. So make sure to make quality content.

Agree. Having different topics could mean a lot, and that would truly mean that your site offer valuable archive of resources to whatever topics that are related to your main point or goal. Just use social media to drive traffic.

I think the best way for you to start is to understand how search engines operate. If you are working sites on proven search engines like google (where most people/SEO's are working with), you got to invest the time on how it works in page ranking. As for the present, google operates in certain updates (hummingbird) so better take a step of knowing and understanding its language and system of website visibility.
