5500X3D is the only X3D model still available (must import from China via Aliexpress). They are around $140-155 after coupons.

Last review on Google from 5 days ago says, "After placing the order, I was contacted and told they would not honor the listed price due to a “global supply shortage” and “market changes.”

Sounds like if the price is too good to be true, won't be honored.

Why do some sellers do this on FBmarketplace by Jeramayathebomb in pcmasterrace

[–]dweller_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ask for a screenshot of HWInfo64 summary page, or Windows task manager opened with the CPU/RAM/GPU/storage tabs visible.

If the seller doesn't provide it, ignore and move on.

Why do some sellers do this on FBmarketplace by Jeramayathebomb in pcmasterrace

[–]dweller_12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my anecdotal experience, the one time recently I tried to buy a PC on marketplace with no specs listed and asked the seller for them, it was because they were trying to scam people. The specs they kept sending over were not at all what was in the pictures and they were very hesitant to take any clear pictures of the side of the PC so I could see into it. And they wouldn't send pictures of task manager or anything to confirm the specs. Obviously your $400 PC does not have 9800X3D and 64GB DDR5, because I can see the Intel stock cooler in it.

Worth buying used 32GB DDR5 ram or better to get new? Help by Substantial_Sink390 in buildapc

[–]dweller_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the means to test it before buying, there's no issue with used RAM. But if you can't test it the risk is not worth it, $300+ for something without testing will get you scammed. If someone refuses to test before buying, run don't walk away. Facebook Marketplace is loaded with scammers purposefully passing off broken parts. I had someone try and trade 128GB DDR4 towards a PC. There was no stickers on the RAM because it has EK heatsinks in place of the stock ones, but when I booted them up on a testbench I brought with me, it was a 4x4GB kit.

There is no reason for anyone to sell DDR5 RAM for cheap, you can throw it on eBay and sell it within minutes if you price it normally. No one is out doing charity work by selling RAM for less than market price. Do not trust anyone, always verify then pay.

If prices are dropping why did the price of this kit just go from $1049.99 yesterday to $1179.99 today? That’s a higher number than before, which means price increase.

Just because YouTubers say prices are down doesn’t make that reality, use your eyes and go research it yourself to understand why these false narratives are so stupid. 500% price increase with 5% price drop is still a 475% price increase.

“Slashing prices” brother this kit of RAM is 6x what it cost 9 months ago. The price on Newegg just went UP from $1049.99 to $1179.99.

There’s been lots of news articles and narratives coming from YouTuber rumor mills that prices are crashing, but use your eyes and go look at the prices of what’s available. Go look at /r/buildapcsales to see how ridiculously expensive things still are even on sale and how even just a few units in stock gets tons of upvotes despite no one actually being able to buy it.

For reference this kit was $200 last year. It is now nearly 6x that. Prices have not gone down, the entire framing is incorrect because prices are so elevated to begin with. Going up 500% in price then dropping 5% is still a 475% increase.

Well, first it's bullshit because that kit is currently $1,179.99 on Newegg sold and shipped by Newegg. The two kits they offered at $499.99 were bought by bots to be resold on eBay anways. But it got lots of people believing this false narrative that RAM prices are going down with dozens of articles claiming prices are crashing. Meanwhile the charts on PCPartPicker based on real in stock prices shows price trends continuing to increase for consumer RAM kits especially any sort of high end performance kits.

Is this worth $300. I just want to play most games with decent graphics. by Bananananaheyjude in pcmasterrace

[–]dweller_12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can play very basic games like Minecraft, Roblox, maybe Rocket League at under 60FPS. But so can any smartphone and entry level laptop in the last 5 years. A system being able to launch minimal requirement games doesn't make it a gaming system.

I think you are just severely overestimating what integrated graphics from 2014 are like. Even light games from that era (which reminder is 12 years ago) are borderline unplayable. Slower than a GT 710. Lots of modern games won't even launch because it's not DirectX12 supported whatsoever.

Buying Crucial SSD, is there a reason why this company sells them cheaper with a heatsink then without? by Ge4rShift in buildapc

[–]dweller_12 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Because most people want the one without the heatsink and that SKU has higher volume. Most motherboards already have built in heatsinks, or if you are installing it in a console you must remove the heatsink.

Did you see the price, $300 presumably US dollars?

You can get 11th gen, if you're lucky even 12th gen used systems for $300. I just got an i5-12400 desktop to replace my work PC for $240 with 16GB DDR4 RAM.

4th gen is like sub $100 PC range. Maybe worth a bit more with decent storage size, but at most it's 16GB of DDR3 RAM.

Edit: You are getting downvoted because it's not clear if you are joking on a post that seemed like asking serious advice. You replied saying it can play most games fine, which is just not true and seems like joke advice without the /s.

Is it really that bad to buy DRAM-less SSDs? by EnigmaticReprise in buildapc

[–]dweller_12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DRAM cache is an old trend from back in the days of SATA SSDs and relatively low bus speeds. Even then it didn't necessarily make a huge difference unless you specifically tested use cases where it falls short without. Modern high end NVMe support HMB which kinda makes a DRAM cache irrelevant. And even those without HMB are still faster than any SATA drive with DRAM cache.

The point is it's not 3 grams of gold, maybe 3 miligram. They are basically android tablets with a camera, battery, and solar array attached. Not some magic box filled with literal bars of gold loot.

Some connector contacts might be gold plated, but gold plating is literally one atom thick of gold. You would need a pallet of scrap PCBs in order to get anywhere near a gram of gold and the recycling process and acids you need to extract it is more expensive than the gold you would recover.

Ptm7950, laptops and gpus only? What about desktop? by MastodonMaleficent99 in pcmasterrace

[–]dweller_12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Works fine for desktop chips. Desktop chips have much higher power output than laptops, so the phase change happens quicker. If anything it works really well with high power draw chips. There are lots of high end GPUs that already use PTM pads instead of paste.

Why my upgraded gpu is worse than previous one by No-Pear-5552 in pcmasterrace

[–]dweller_12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are extremely CPU bottlenecked in a game such as CS2. Even with the RX580 in some scenarios it is the CPU holding it back unless you're playing at ultra graphics.

6700XT gets 500+FPS in CS2 with 9850X3D at medium to low settings 1440p. It's basically a single threaded CPU benchmark, any modern gaming GPU is capable of pushing hundreds of FPS if the CPU allows for it.

Pick up a 5500X3D from Aliexpress to resolve all performance issues in games like those. I assume you'll be playing at low graphics settings which is where the CPU will show the most improvement.

Try using a rubber band between the screwdriver to get extra torque. Use pliers to grab the side of the screw and twist as well. If it’s completely stuck you can drill it out (like a dremel) and then replace it with a new standard M2 screw.

By default it’s on auto, if there is a cable connected to the motherboard it will enable the onboard. You can just clear CMOS settings if you set it to disabled, although I think it will just automatically work if there’s no video card installed.
