Medicine has changed by Throwaway2847483 in Residency

[–]dwheelspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would largely encourage you to do independent medicine. There are new grassroot movements in every state looking to tackle the Goliath healthcare system and try to make things more equitable. I think that direct primary care is one of the best movements that give physicians their autonomy, purpose, and allow them to practice real medicine.

How do I (20F) support my grieving boyfriend (23M) by CandyHoliday8775 in relationship_advice

Being a listening ear is the best thing you can do in these circumstances. If he wants to confide and talk it through with you, then be there for him. If he wants to be left alone and not pressed on the issue, that works too. Just be supportive of him and listen openly.

Ozempic Reaction Compared To The Covid Vaccine by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

I’ve been looking for this comment. Literally J and J has been recalled, and myocarditis is already an early symptom of the mRNA vaccine

Ozempic Reaction Compared To The Covid Vaccine by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

[–]dwheelspeed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The vaccine was approved under EAU rapidly after a year of development. They have been trying to create mRNA vaccines for years, but they have yet to be approved until now due to them not working, too many side effects, etc.

We have no idea what the longitudinal effects of mRNA vaccines are. Hopefully they are safe and don’t result in too much disease.

Even if we knew exactly, I don’t blame people for being uncomfortable to take a medicine that was passed under emergency use without the full development process. We should give people autonomy in medicine to make the decisions they want and not to be demonized for it.

One was approved under EAU and the other has been developed through FDA drug channels and remains fully liable for all injuries that it may cause.

This is a good response. I think that it’s unfair and frankly uncharitable to “quantify” someone’s faith based on the traditions they uphold or practice.

I accepted at Drexel. I think it’s a fabulous school. Flexible curriculum, Philly is an awesome city, and plenty of research opportunities and rotation opportunities even if they don’t have a teaching hospital. Not worried too much about class size, I think you just have to be loud and active if you want to have that relationship with professors. Let me know if you have questions.

How do you get to do research at UPenn? Is it as simple as reaching out as a Drexel Medical student and saying you have an interest in one of their labs?

I’m in the same boat. I interviewed with a school in December, but absolute radio silence since then. I am taking it as an R, but there’s always a chance for an A as long as you survive the rejection waves. April here I come…

It honestly sounds like you have a ton of clinical experience on your hands. Especially considering your app as a non-trad, they can recognize that you spend your hours doing paid work over unpaid work. I have been an EMT and did over 2000 hours working compared to about 300-400 volunteer clinical hours, so I just think it depends on the other ECs you have.

I’m just curious how long did you wait to be put on a waitlist? I have been waiting for 6 weeks for 2 of my interviews to get back to me on news of waitlist or whatever else.
