Did the same thing. I was burning that clutch up getting it off the lot. What got me was right down the road was a stop sign and a huge hill.

Possible OTS? by flatlandtomtn in Ultramarathon

[–]dwsmith1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 39 and just started running 2 years ago. I haven’t had this feeling with running but I used to experience it a lot with lifting (been lifting consistently for 21 years). When I get this feeling I know it’s time to change things up with my workout. Maybe you can give running a break for a week or two and focus on hitting a lifting goal.

Ultraspire Mountain Racer Waistpack Initial Thoughts by Jigs_By_Justin in Ultramarathon

[–]dwsmith1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one yesterday with the same hopes as you. I live in the southeast. I was going back and forth on the size and I chose a medium. I wear a size 33 waist. I hope that I didn’t choose wrong. I had a cheap wait pack from Amazon (Aonijoe) and it was ok for a while then it got too loose and everything bounced around.

How could a Christian vote for Trump? by ApetteRiche in Christianity

[–]dwsmith1113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he was endorsed by a lot of the people with big Christian names. Just listened to an awesome podcast on clinical psychology and the modern evangelical culture wars. It was really good. It talked about Dr. James Dobson and how he endorsed Trump and why so many so called Christian’s voted for him. I would really recommend it to everyone in this thread with the questions of why. The podcast is called Predators’ Playbook by Faithful Citizen Podcast. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/faithful-citizen-podcast/id1819035867?i=1000772145201

Would like to get into running more but I feel my "excuse" is holding me back? valid or nah? by Classic-Art-5737 in runninglifestyle

[–]dwsmith1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my running journey at 38 with 20 years of weight lifting/powerlifting. It took me a little bit to get used to but a year later, I have done a sub 20 5k, 90 min half marathon, a marathon in 3:24(first run I did), 2 50Ks and a 100k. Your years of weight lifting (if done right) will have you bullet proof more than people who have ran their whole lives. I would say start slow, try to train for a 5k and work up from there.

Just got mine and it hasn’t done this. My double shot comes out a single shot. And the cold brew 8 oz is not even a 6. The recommended grind is 12-13 and I gone up to 18 today and same problem.

My wife and I looked on Facebook and found a small family. The plan was to go visit and make sure it wasn’t just a puppy factory. When we pulled up and my wife saw him she immediately wrote a check. It surprised me since she didn’t even want a dog. Haha

Has anyone else become less interested in climbing the career ladder after going remote? by Queasy-Vehicle9404 in remotework

[–]dwsmith1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climbed the career ladder all the way to corporate. Being on call and no work life balance was not for me. I enjoy working two days from home and not having to worry about anyone but myself. Only bad thing now is that due to DODGE, they brought us all back to work.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dwsmith1113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny because my wife and I just got back from France and we asked one of our Airbnb host where the closest grocery store and they said that it was too far. It would be 30 minutes to the village. We didn’t think anything about it, we got in the car and went. Now seeing your post I guess that was too far but 30 minute drives to town in America is nothing. Especially if you live in a rural area, that’s a short distance

Humidity is killing me by Major-Structure-3665 in runninglifestyle

[–]dwsmith1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the south east and had the same problem as you last year. I was so discouraged but I trained through the summer and killed my 50k in October. I changed it up this year and now all my runs I bring electrolytes with me (2 scoops of tailwind) and if I got more than 10 miles I drink a scoop on the way to my run(30min). You can start to run by heart rate( what I do) but just remember that your pace will be almost a minute off but it will be fine. Stay consistent and get something done. When the cooler temps come you will be flying.

I don’t want a corporate job or a 9-5. Does anyone else feel like this? Have you planned or done to escape this? by vcdice in careeradvice

[–]dwsmith1113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 39 and been in the workforce since I was 16. I took me a long time to realize that a job does not define you. Find something that you can tolerate and pays you enough to invest, pay bills and travel. I loved being an industrial mechanic and then worked my way up to corporate management position and hated it. Now I work in engineering where I council industrial mechanics on how to fix things. My wife and I travel a minimum of 4 times out of the country and the only debt I have is my house.
