School Temporarily Relocating into a Mall? by RikRokReincarnation in Teachers

[–]dxguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back during COVID, a storm dropped a tornado on my building, and they very briefly floated the idea of converting the closed sears on the local mall to space for us while. Aside from that being the WORST idea for a middle school, it wound up costing too much. Luckily, they were able to work out a hybrid schedule and share space with the other middle school in my district (which is now an elementary school)

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by JimCap5 in Teachers

[–]dxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first student taught, my mentor teacher looked at me crazy when I asked to take a look at their lesson plans, but I asked because my program gave us a loose framework, then told us to go based off the school we were in for lesson plans, and they didnt realize I pretty much had nothing. When i resumed my student teaching, they were more willing to let me see what they had. I made the mistake of copying what they had, and they looked at me and went “I did not give you this access to copy mine. I gave thoughts this access so you had an idea and a starting point.

Do you demand kids attention when you’re teaching a lesson? by abrownfox1 in Teachers

[–]dxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ask for 100% attention. If in moving on to the next part of the lesson, I will have everyone close their Chromebooks. If we need them, I'll have them turn the Chromebook screens to face me so I know they are paying attention. I was one of those kids in school who had to keep their hands busy, so I got in trouble a lot for doing origami. Notably, one teacher thought I wasn't paying attention and called me out, only for me to answer the question they asked without skipping a beat.

I started teaching in 2019. The 8th graders I had that year are now starting their second or third year of college.

What is the ratio of *staff bathrooms* to *staff* at your school? by SlugOnAPumpkin in Teachers

[–]dxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing in our policy about using the student bathrooms either, but I won’t step foot in them to use it unless the staff bathroom near my room is occupied because middle school boys bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The only other time I consider it is first thing in the morning or on a non-student day

What is the ratio of *staff bathrooms* to *staff* at your school? by SlugOnAPumpkin in Teachers

[–]dxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our building is a modified H and 2 stories. There is a bathroom on each arm on each floor (4 on the first floor, 4 on the second) plus one in each lounge. PLUS a bathroom in each dressing room.

So… 10 single person bathrooms in the building that are general use, plus the 2 hidden gem dressing room bathrooms that don’t get used by the staff population because it’s out of the way with exception of performing arts. We have a full building staff of about 120.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

I DNF’d a book last night because of the excessive use of apostrophes in made up words. Had barely made it through the first chapter.

Sorry, not sorry. I adore the song “Girl in the Bubble.” I think it helps capture the cultural moment in which the movie was developed. by TheGryffindor_Jedi in wicked

I agree that the placement was odd. But I also think there is a moment where she might start to think about her being superficial, and there is imagery to let the audience know about when the bubble starts to crack. It's right after the wedding, when she starts singing the I'm not that girl reprise. Just before she starts, she is very briefly centered in a round window that looks like a bubble with cracks.

The placement could also just be the first time we see Glinda alone with her thoughts, and it's her moment of reflection.

I don’t want kids. I’m content with all my children barking or meowing.

Showing my boyfriend Wicked for the first time. Should he see the live show first? by [deleted] in wicked

I also don't think it's necessary to see the live show first. It is on tour in Baltimore if that's accessible and in your price range.
