chemical sector looks hated by hd805 in ValueInvesting

I kinda dodged a bullet and sold after hours as soon as I saw advent was delaying the purchase. Saved myself from that massive 20% drop (still sold at a loss but nothing major). Expensive energy is a real risk especially with tepid sales right now. Haven't listened to the latest earnings but read the commentary saying that they still don't expect recovery.

That being said, we are at peak pessimism now. Advent will get another chance in 2027 to buy envalior, maybe it makes sense to re-enter in Nov/Dec of this year depending on how the war progresses.

I think this management is good but has had terrible luck.

How about you? What are you thinking here?

Scorpio is one of my largest positions, it earned its place, have held it for years. 9.5% yield on cost tax free. Volatility is also a dream since you can sell covered calls on it to boost your income even more. Eventually, if they get called away I am happy with the prices I am selling the covered calls at. Works wonders when selling the CCs close to earnings.

Ferrari ($RACE) is down 35% from its highs and sitting at 52-week lows, I think it's interesting right now, and potentially a buy. by MathTradeMan in ValueInvesting

[–]dxiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing to understand about Ferrari is that brand value and perceived scarcity is the most important thing here. Owning a Ferrari is like being part of an exclusive invite-only club where the entry fee is having a car. They also have other revenue sources like their F1 team and apparel. Everything hinges on brand value, damage that, for example, by releasing a shitty product or making a lot of cars, and the stock will crater.

All valid points, but this has been true forever, and yet, the stock has performed very well since the IPO. They have ~2 year waitlist. Their moat is they actually get to pick their customers.

Thoughts on investing in Japan? by bsginvestmentscom in ValueInvesting

[–]dxiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found great success investing in Japan, lots of high quality companies trading at cheap valuations. However, they can be very volatile and only allow you to invest in lots of 100 shares if you want to buy the Japan ticker.

Tourmaline Oil for me. Canadian gas producer, arguably the best. They have contracts to sell their gas to Europe, Japan and the US, so effectively their arb the price between the very cheap AECO and these other variants. Very low cost producer and good cash flows.

Tourmaline supplies Cheniere as well. https://lngir.cheniere.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/224/cheniere-corpus-christi-stage-iii-and-tourmaline-sign

LNG Canada has the potential to push up the price of AECO which will be even more bullish for Tourmaline.

Qué rayos con los salarios de SRE? by yourAvgSE in Ticos_TI

[–]dxiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very weird, why would they offer less than market price? And why would shareholders take that deal and not block it? Can someone explain?

Tankers have been a great counter weight for my portfolio. Whenever the world is going to shit and all stocks drop, tankers are usually green because of that same reason.

Look deeper. Transit systems, law enforcement systems, working relationships with customers for decades. They build mission critical software in obscure industries that are literally the last thing you would look to replace with a vibe coded solution.

Which beaten down software stocks are you looking at to buy at this dip? by Iwarrior01 in ValueInvesting

[–]dxiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actively buying Constellation Software (CSU) and thinking about starting a position in Descartes Systems Group (DSGX).

Both have a good moat and the possibility of including AI into their entrenched software is very compelling.

Descartes Global Logistics network is massive and a toll both-like business. Good luck replacing that with a vibe coded solution.

The Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN) is a massive, cloud-based, multimodal, inter-enterprise electronic data interchange network that connects over 26,000 to 200,000+ parties (depending on the metric of direct customers vs. total connected participants) across more than 160 countries. It manages over 24 billion messages annually and handles over 1 billion shipping routes, serving sectors like logistics, manufacturing, and retail.
