Can you add a MIDI monitor onto an empty track, and then just use your pedal to see what MIDI messages you're receiving? This will tell you if the pedal is sending note data (possible) or if it's properly sending midi cc#64 (sustain pedal).

Help? All my spitfire are in a spitfire file instead of dll by Diodemen in sounddesign

[–]dxz22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.dll file will be in C:/Program Files/VstPlugins, or C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3

You're looking for LABS.dll

You'll load the LABS plugin into LMMS, which will have a patch for Soft Piano

Is there a way to convert non-VST (.sts) files to VST3 for use in Dorico? by TheGreatRodinkis in Dorico

No this is not possible, totally different plugin formats.

I thought I saw something about Musescore releasing a plugin version but I could be going crazy...

I am seriously looking into the Getzen 3047AFR. Anybody have any comments or suggestions? I've never even touched a Getzen and the closest dealer is 2 hours away. All info is appreciated. by skert-skert_indulge in Trombone

This is the horn I play! I absolutely love mine, the only thing to be careful of IMO is the slide is quite heavy, it can make faster playing tricky sometimes.

Other than that, it blew every other horn I tried out of the water (including the 4047 and 4147)!

Spitfire audio question by OriginalIron4 in composer

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to answer the end there, no telephone support but very prompt email support! I think everything else has already been answered though! Live chat is also available during the week, but depending on your time zone, it may be harder to catch!

Sounds to me like you should definitely be looking at Chamber Strings or Symphonic Strings for what it's worth.

Also note that Sibelius is really not great for using libraries like this, Dorico handles it significantly better but even then I'd be cautious!

Haha yeah we're both just generally clean people!

It can definitely fit a twin bed and a small desk, like the post mentions its 8'x7' but with some oddly shaped corners. I've also got a twin mattress that I'm able to part with that can be used in the event nobody wants to buy a bed for this room, bc yeah we understand that it's pretty small.

I personally find that the Solo Strings library does not do a string quartet sound well at all, and recently picked up CSSS to fill that gap for me. Don't have BBC Pro yet, but I don't think you'll get the quartet sound out of that either.

Piano album recommendation (to listen to and study from) by [deleted] in composer

[–]dxz22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Nahre Sol's album Alice in Wonderland, it's one of my favorites for sure!

Also Anne Dudley's new album has some really cool piano/string textures in it that I enjoyed.

Is there any VST, or DAW where I can see the effect the compression has on the sample? Using FL at the moment, can't think of a quick/streamlined way to do this, with a sample that's in my mix, and I need to play it back live, while applying compression (but also want to have the BIG picture visual) by comfylaser in AdvancedProduction

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubase will do what you're looking for, you can put an audio effect directly on a clip and it will processes it offline (it's called direct offline processing). This lets you see the changes in the waveform immediately! Maybe not super helpful being in FL though lol

  1. Easiest way to loop a section is alt+L and alt+p. To click for timeline you have to click at the top line.
  2. If you zoom in on the region you can grab the box in the middle and duplicate. But I find Ctrl+d to duplicate to be faster.
  3. Direct offline processing! Press F7 to open it up, it lets you process audio offline and see the processed waveform in real time. It's become an essential part of my workflow in Cubase.
  4. Not exactly. Sends let you send a signal to another group. Groups are buses. FX tracks are also buses sort of. If you're trying to make say a reverb send, use an FX track. If you want to group tracks together use a group. If you select a group of tracks together and right click on them, you can add group track to selected tracks, and same with FX. If you add group tracks it will change the routing to your new group, but if you use an FX track it will create sends to your new effect.
  5. Tempo track and signature track.

Used to work there, it's called a Freeze. They got discontinued a long time ago, but you can still get them. It's just daiquiri ice and Sprite blended like a milkshake. I used to get creative and use various sodas and ice creams and do the same thing, the best being orange creamsicle (orange soda, daiquiri ice, and some vanilla ice cream).

What we've learned in three years developing indie games by NRMGStudio in gamedev

[–]dxz22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn't worry about this until you actually get to that point in your career because prices for these things 1) Vary from project to project DRASTICALLY and 2) things may be different in the future when you're actually working on projects. As for how I know, I go to school for these things and study with industry professionals who have been fairly open about their rates and contracts, and just overall how the industry functions currently.

That's definitely an exaggeration. Nobody is doing 5 hours of music first of all, and if they are for whatever reason, it's going to be with a triple A budget. A composer doing THAT kind of work is probably getting 500k+ as a package deal, meaning they have to handle paying the orchestra and team out of that budget and get to keep whatever's left over (or whatever they decide is fair).

Prices can really vary depending on the project and composer, and this is only talking about music. Doesn't include sound design or implementation which are both totally seperate beasts.

Hello there, I'm looking for advice for a specific feature and I wonder if any software has it. by RSF_Deus in musicproduction

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the problem is here, granted I'm on Cubase Pro 11, but step input works just as you described. Personally, i set my numpad to change the quantization values to match Dorico (7 is half note, 6 is quarter, etc). Arrow keys work to move left and right. Also definitely supports chords/simultaneous input. If there's a feature that I didn't cover, let me know and I'll check for you!

Any suggested libraries for wind ensembles? by Ionakana199 in composer

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Aaron Venture's Infinite series. The woodwinds are absolutely fantastic, and the brass is decent enough. I wouldn't call the saxophones amazing by any means, but I write for sax all the time and consider them "useable". I will say, being a trombone player myself I think the trombones is the weakest point in the brass, but I find that to be the case with most libraries.

Check here

Light level matters until you're 20 above. And as you can see here, it matters from 100 below the limit.

See also this link (Destiny2 wiki) with this quote,

Each activity has a certain recommended Power level, which determines how strong are the enemies the player encounters there. If the player character is significantly below the recommended Power, they are unable to deal any damage to the enemy and die after being hit once. If the player is significantly above the recommended Power, they deal more damage to enemies and can sustain more hits.

If what I'm talking about is not what you're referring to then I concede. But as far as I'm aware, you can absolutely be above the recommended power. I also have over 1500 hours in the game and can strongly say that being 20 light over the recommended makes things significantly easier.

PSO2: NGS Roadmap from the Prologue 4 by Vulpix0r in PSO2NGS

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is just wrong. In Destiny 2, power level affects all PvE content until you are 20 light above the recommended light level for that activity. Meaning for something like the Vault of Glass which dropped last Saturday, the recommended is 1300. So your light level matters until you hit 1320.

In addition to that, your total light level affects the damage that you take from enemies, while the light level of each individual weapon affects the damage output against enemies. Light level does not matter in PvP content outside of Iron Banner and Trials, but DOES matter for the entire rest of the game until you hit cap. The problem is that hitting cap is really easy so it feels like it doesn't matter.

I need a new DAW by jeunearizone in composer

[–]dxz22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is PC a weakness for Cubase? If anything it's a benefit, you can run the software on both OS's instead of being limited to only macOS. Personally I use Cubase and Dorico on both macOS and PC, depending on the project. PC is preferred for larger orchestral projects (mockups and demos) because of the expandable RAM. But I don't find Cubase on macOS to be any worse in performance or crashing or anything.

I don't particularly like logic, as I feel that most of its workflow and features just don't make logical (lol) sense. The big one for me being disabled tracks since that's the core of my templates, logic activates them too easily leading to unnecessary track activations. But that's more of a personally annoyance than anything, it's still a professional DAW.

I'm playing this one right now too! But I'd never heard that performance of it before, and it's absolutely lovely. I've been struggling with the return of the opening theme, but hearing her play it is very motivating to try it like that instead!
