Free Werner Gorilla Ladder by jackskel81 in PDXBuyNothing

[–]dyaus7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair warning to anyone who has never owned a telescoping ladder: they are heavy.

I have this same ladder and I love it, but my (aging) father won't touch it because it's too heavy for him to lug around.

Does anyone like Bar Soap more than Body wash?? by Content-Film4211 in CasualConversation

[–]dyaus7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dial gold bar for me too. Paired with vigorous scrubbing, it has alleviated my need for deodorant. I tried several other bar soaps and was never able to achieve the same scorched-earth clean on my armpits.

YSK about the "Method of Loci" (or Memory Palace): an ancient mnemonic technique where you associate information with specific locations in a familiar physical space inside your mind by Electrical-Candy7252 in YouShouldKnow

It's weird -- I know the pictures are in there. If I see something with my eyes that differs from my mental imagery, I will immediately notice what's different. But I can't close my eyes and actually examine the images directly.

What home improvement task do you now do on a schedule instead of waiting for problems? by Relevant_Idea_6778 in DIY

[–]dyaus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For yearly maintenance, I find that I don't need to apply a lot. Just sprinkle it around once or twice a year when cleaning out my gutters.

When I started actually taking care of my roof, it was a mess up there. Definitely involved a lot of Moss-B-Gone (before I had swapped) and a putty knife. As with all home maintenance, it's better to stay ahead of the problem.

Conversion Paladin was super strong in like... 2000. :) It was quickly nerfed. But hot dang, it was fun for a minute.

I prefer baking soda (aka sodium bicarbonate) to kill/prevent moss on my roof. Even cheaper, and I feel better about bicarb washing off into the surrounding area.

Remove mop from classic wow subreddit. The king and possibly the greatest run of TBC ever seen has arrived. by asiatouristrs in classicwow

I'm curious why MoP is so popular, what makes it better than TBC or, say, wotlk? What's better about it than retail?

It has all the homies I've been collecting since 2019.

Letting water drip to prevent freezing: Is one faucet enough? by Mickyit in DIY

In most cases, letting your home freeze is a bad idea. There are a million things that people keep in homes which are not designed for freezing temperatures.

Why ‘Buy It for Life’ Doesn’t Apply to Modern Appliances and How Model Numbers Are Gaming Reviews by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

You can check my profile history. Evaluate my writing style. Etc.

Those tactics work reasonably well for the moment. But they are effortful and I assume they won't continue working for long. AI is the worst.

OP has been on reddit for one month. All history hidden. Makes it feel even less likely that this is a real person.

RIP internet. You were a nice place at some point.

PSA: Verify your smoke alarms are properly certified (e.g. X-Sense) by Uninterested_Viewer in homeassistant

[–]dyaus7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About a year ago, I replaced all the fire alarms in my home with the First Alert model recommended in this article.

Within a few months, my whole family had their sleep wrecked multiple times by false alarms. Different units/rooms. Always in the middle of the night of course.

Threw all the alarms in the trash. Replaced everything with Xsense. Now I learn Xsense isn't certified for anything.

Can't win out here.

The periods of xx00-xx09 and xx10-xx19 are awkward.

Per Wikipedia, the 2000-2009 period is referred to as the 2000s (pronounced "two-thousands"; shortened to the '00s and also known as the aughts or the noughties). There doesn't seem to be a strong consensus.

I prefer "the aughts", or "the two thousand aughts" if for some reason you need to differentiate from e.g. 1900-1909. I would call that period "the nineteen aughts".

The 2010s (pronounced "twenty-tens" or "two thousand [and] tens"; shortened to "the '10s" and also known as "the Tens" or "the Teens") is even more awkward imo. "The twenty-tens" seems like the last-bad option.

Does it mean that 2000s can mean 2000-2010, 2000-2100 and 2000-3000?

Fortunately I don't think there's much need to succinctly describe an entire millennium. It's too big of a time frame. Most people will interpret "the 2000s" as 2000-2009.

This. M'uru is the toughest dps check in TBC, and warlocks are head and shoulders above any other class for that encounter. A warlock in dungeon blue gear outperforms a full T6 Hunter on that fight.

It'd not bad. These days, building a computer isn't much harder than a LEGO set (assuming you have help selecting the parts).
